  1. Oh Canada....

I feel the need to sing today but I fear that I may cause permanent hearing loss to my poor work colleagues!

I'm riding in the Heart&Stroke Foundation Big Bike Challenge this afternoon, I haven't been on a bike in ages, my walk may look rather odd tomorrow LOL.

    Happy Day everyone

  2. I have work till 5 so I'm going to head over right afterwards. That day do have a company field trip so maybe I'll be there earlier but idk when that will end. I wish I could hang around all day :(

@kat75 is this your first time in LA?

I visited LA the first time about 20+ years ago for a couple nights so this will be my second trip.  I'll be attending a conference for the first week and then I've extended my stay for a second week when I heard Mika would do a club style gig.  I've never seen Mika in this type of venue so I'm excited to experience the show :)

  3. Anyone travelling solo and want to share a hotel room on May 6th?

I'll be arriving in LA on April 28th for a conference and I fly out on May 8th so if anyone wants to share a room for more than just one night please let me know, otherwise I'm looking for something closer to the venue for May 6th at least. If anyone already has a booking and is looking to lower costs by sharing then I'm happy to chat :)

  4. Yay! This sounds like an adventure :biker: I hope all goes well and thanks in advance to all those working hard behind the scenes on this :thumb_yello:

    A few questions:

    1. Will the new site have a similar chat capability? There a few of us regular chatters that use it quite often.

    2. Will we keep the fun and wacky emoticons?

    3. Will we need to sign up again with new passwords?

    4. Will our private messages also transfer over?

    5. Will this site still remain accessible but perhaps not updateable after the transfer? (as a reference site in case any info does get lost)

That's all I can think of for now, wishing you all a wonderful weekend and a stress-free move very soon.

  5. i forgot to post here, but back on February 12 2015 i walked into the dollar store @ the Complex Desjardins in Montreal and Boum Boum Boum was on the radio over the store's speakers. It had just started too so i had the entire song to be-bop & shop. After the song ended they said something in French about Mika playing with the OSM that evening. :wub2:

I guess it's not so unusual to hear a French Mika song on a French radio station in Montreal, but it was the first time i ever walked into a business & heard Mika playing so i had to :excite: inside!

They played GK when we both walked into the Bay in Montreal the day before. Do you still have the video? You should post it :pbjt:

  6. So happy Deb posted about the USA gigs! I just got a ticket for the LA one :thumb_yello: I'm super excited! Such fantastic timing since I'll be in LA the week before for a conference anyways so I'll just extend my stay a few days YAY!!!

    Anyone else going to LA?

  7. 8. Hello Hyejee :bye:

Very nice to virtually meet you. I just attended my first Mika concert in February this year and what a treat that was! You're going to love him singing live, he's so good!

MFCers are wonderful people and I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here.

If you find some time between your exams then stop into our chat room, we often meet up in the evenings there. (evenings for me in Canada LOL not sure what time that would be for you but just test it out one day)

    Welcome! :thumb_yello:

  9. OH MY GOODNESS!!! there's a Canadian thread!!!

I never even thought to look for one!

This is super exciting :) I'm from Edmonton, Alberta. Not too much Mika news makes it all the way out here so I'm grateful for the MFC community.

So happy to see fellow Canadians on here, perhaps there might be a few in my part of the prairies?

    Wishing you all well :wub2:

    Kat.

  10. I have a few little corrections in bold below, but basically I agree with you on these lyrics. :original: I'm up in the air on the hear/here question too, as either way could make sense, but I'm leaning toward "hear". Also, at first I thought the mercury reference was to how the mercury in a thermometer rises when the temperature gets hot. But it *could* also be referring to the planet Mercury, since it often rises early in the morning -- he could be saying "who knew morning/the end of the party would come so soon?" But either way, it is definitely "rise" not "ride."

Agree with you Deb on leaning towards "hear", but hadn't thought of the rise of Mercury to convey morning...nice!

I'm curious as well - and maybe MIKA will tell us, like he has done with many of his songs, after a while. When I first heard this song, on the 10th, my first thought was: Oh, MIKA - is it the tradegy in Syria that inspired you with this lyric !? I had to think about all the drama, and terrible things, going on, in among other places Aleppo, where he has both fam. and friends- acc. to himself. As we all know, also Libanon now has a lot of challenges to solve. Whatever it is, this song is a new fav. already - so sad, but so wonderful...:wub2:

    Love,love

    me

Mamiam, I wondered about that too, Mika's ability to hide the story in plain sight in his lyrics really lets the listener apply his songs to a variety of contexts. Perhaps the current devastation in Syria and the human and political turmoil in that part of the world played an originating role in this song...his story telling intrigues me, it's just sublime.
