I happen to use 8"x8"x8" because they came in a pack of 5 on ebay lol. Lilmot used one about the size of a shoebox but a bit longer. I do suggest that if your sending things like biscuits, crisps or non-edible items that you do use some form of protective packaging like bubblewrap or those small 'squishy things' you get in parcels.
