OH SNAP.

So, Claude is Italian, but sings in french?!

He's Belgian but from Italian origin...

*History lesson*

My region was very active in the charcoal industry back in the beginning of the 20th century. Loads of migrants came here to work, especially italian and polish people. They were considered second class citizens tho. That old "these strangers who come here to steal our jobs" nonsense. They eventually got accepted, and we have a really strong and vast italian community here now who is still very proud of their roots. Doesnt mean he's italian, he was born in Belgium, but his parents or grandparents were italian.

*end of the history lesson lol*

I don't know about that other song, i'd need the lyrics.

Wow..... THANKS for the history lesson - quite interesting!!!!

--- here are the lyrics.......

First, thank you for pepe le pew. I know this cartoon character. I don't remember its name in the french translation. And yes he is totally hilarious!

Thank you to Niki27 for all these precisions about Claude's life. I did'nt know he's from Belgium ! Of course I supposed his parents or grandparents were italian, because of his name ! And his VOICE !

So, let's go !!!!

Madame

I was tenderly looking at you

I would have to speak to you

But I loose heart

I'd like to take you along

With you at my side

But without imagining

Imagining a lot of things

Things I don't dare to say to you madame

And yet I often think about you

(chorus)

I often think about you madame

I often remind you madame

I'm happy I get ideas

And maybe tomorrow you"ll take my hand

I often think about you madame

I often remind you madame

Don't tell me to leave

I could suffer and maybe die

My heart is filled with an old loneliness

From where will you come North or South

To become my habit

You'll be my first summer

My rose and my secret spring

Let me imagine

Imagine a lot of things

Things I don't dare to say to you madame

And yet I often think about you

(chorus) 2 times.

Well ! My translation don't seem to me so poetic than the original, but I did my best ! If somebody may correct my possible mistakes, you're welcome !

This tread is too "black"! I didn't find the smileys sorry

Continuation soon !

Have a nice day ! Love from France !

Thank you Audeline!!! :huglove:

You are right, when translated it just does not flow the way it does when in french. In English it is not nearly as beautiful as it TRULY is. Still I am glad to 'know' what he is singing about! I am VERY interested to see just what Aime moi and Elle me tue are saying. It is ALOT of fun to sing these songs.... because everyone is like  I didn't know you could speak french :naughty:

I have two copies of his greatest hits album - one in the house and one in my car! I love to sing along in the car!

I think Claude is a m a z i n g :wub2:

---- and I loved the info from Niki27

we learn something new everyday!

Tonight, I work all night ( my job is a very decent one, I swear !:roll1:) so I get time to post :naughty:.

I'm glad you appreciate what I did. You made me laugh when you are telling your "language adventures" ! I have too a copy of Claude's greatests hits, but they are among others hits of other artists (Mika of course and some french singers I like). I can be so messed-up !

Time to translation now !!!

Elle me tue

Her way of banning me

To talk, to tell her everything

It kills me.

She's chilling me with emotion

Whore or salon doll,

She kills me.

She walks backwards,

Leopard chameleon

It kills me.

She makes me airstreams

Over the pullover,

She kills me.

(chorus)

She kills me, she kills me,

I'm a loser, I'm lost

She kills me, but I love her,

But I love her still and all,

I'm just a bird for the cat,

A prey.

She kills me, but I love her

But I love her still and all,

She can do anything,

She's everything, everything for me.

She knows to sway her's hips,

That's not walking, that's dancing,

She kills me.

She wants bringing me in her wake

Like a dog, like an hostage,

She kills me.

She puts on her eyelids,

All the desert's sands,

She kills me

One say she defeated

The hold of the lost time,

She kills me .

(chorus) once

Voilà ! And continuation soon!

I 've 3 days off. I'm gone sleep, listen to music:pbjt::pbjt: and maybe go to the beach :boat:

bye-bye ! See you soon !:huglove:

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! :huglove:

... again I am totally  --- oh English is simply NOT a beautiful language! .... unless one has a british accent, of course! I could sit and listen to a brit talk ALL day.... :wub2:

But, the English language has no pizzaz what so ever. French *and many others* are simply beautiful... even just to speak.

Thank you for the translation! And I hope you enjoy your days off.... and have a lovely time... especially at the beach!!!! :naughty:

I think the right title is "Elle me tu" right?

Which is actually a pun "Elle me tue" = she kills me

"Elle me tu" = she me you

;)

xx

Forgive the American here -

but, of course I don't get it :insane:

What is the pun? Isn't the correct title Elle me tue...

the song says many times she kills me.... :boxed:

I know what you are thinking......

'Americans' ----- :mf_rosetinted:

Hello ! I'm back !

Why you say english is not a beautiful language ? Of course it is ! For example, I can't imagine Mika' s songs in an other language !

I think MY english is just not enough :roftl:

It' s too academic (don't know if it's the right word). I suppose somebody mastering and knowing english poets can do much better. To tranpose language images from Claude's songs to english images .

(Seems like chinese, no?)

So long !

I can't imagine Mika songs in any other language either -- although the time I have heard him sing like Grace Kelly in french it was awesome!!!! :wub2:

I just feel that English is the most boring of all the languages!

Yes, it's elle me tue on the CD.

Like you, Ilike brit accent, but also american accent ( hard to understand sometimes :roftl:!). For me, it's exotic and ..... sexy !

But I can't imagine Claude singing in another language than french, except italian. When I translate his songs, I realise how they are like poems. When you're used to hear a song, you don't listen to it really.

Next time (in 2 days) I'll translate aime-moi if you're always interested to know the words's meaning ( but I'm sure you understood :wink2:!)

I've heard about a hurricane on Florida. Take care of you !:huglove:

See you soon!

oh YES - I want to know Aime-moi as it is one of my most favorite songs!!! :wub2:

I am going through the Hurricane right NOW!

We had wind gust at 85 mies per hour and it lifted our roof. Our living room ceiling is cracked from one end to the other and water is leaking in!!! The ceiling is about to collapse ANY minute

Other then that we are flooded and have trees down.....

everyone is okay!! :huglove:

That's terrible ! I just can't imagine such a destruction ! The most important is nobody's hurted :huglove:

But it must be hard to see your home damaged.

Aime-moi

Love me, my love, love me:mf_lustslow:

Listen my prayer

You're everything for me

Hug me gently

Don't leave me alone

You don't have the right.

Without you, I'm nothing

Only a lonely child

Only a lost child

Forgotten on earth

Love me, I need you so much

My life is useless

If you don't love me.

Don't waste time

To make promises

Kiss me, kiss me

And keep me up against you

Love me, my love, love me

We've got to love eachother

Cause we're made for this

Hug me hug me

I don't want to know

Where you'll take me.

But there you'll learn

How it's good to live

These madness's moments

When the heart is setting free

Love me, my love, love me

And if you're only a dream

Don't wake me.

And if you 'll like some other translations of Claude's songs, just tell me :wink2:

I've a country accent too  french country, but country , cause I'm not living in Paris, I'm living in south.

Speaking of brits, what about Rupert Everett :wub2: and Daniel Craig :wub2: ?

See you later !:huglove:

and the fact that he is bisexual makes him all the more :das:

OH okay  I know who Daniel Craig is then.....

I don't fancy him at all

... and speaking of James Bond -- to ME the only James Bond will forever be Timothy Dalton :naughty:

I see you've good taste !:thumb_yello:

But in terms of James Bond, I dont' totally agree with you .:roftl:

Timothy Dalton is fine but I prefer first Sean Connery (although the first James Bond seem a little bit quaint) and secondly Daniel Craig. I'm waiting for Quantum of Solace:mf_lustslow:

And now, Claude's song !:groupwave:

Je t'apprendrai l'amour

Her

This night I dreamt I made love

This night I dreamt I was close to you

This night I dreamt somebody learn me love

I was close to you and you were close to me

Him

I'll learn you love

With tender gestures

I'll tell you words

You dream to hear

I'll discover you

For the first time

When you 'll get to sleep

To sleep close to me

I'll learn you night

In the deep languor

On the same ocean

We'll leave the world

And the first sun

Will slip on your skin

Impatient to offer you

Others new morning

(chorus)

Her : Learn me love

Him : I'll learn you love

Her : Where will you take me ?

Him : Here, there, everywhere

Her : It'll last .....days ?

Him : It'll always last

HIm

I'll learn you life

Its joys and its fears

I'll make me softness

To hold back your laments

And your so pure spring

Will see the summer to be born

When you'll become a woman

For my eternity

I'll learn you love

With tender gestures

I'll tell you words

You dream to hear

I'll learn you by heart

At my fingertips

When you'll become a woman

For the first time

Chorus +

Her : You'll learn me, promised ?

Him : Sworn !

THis is one of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard !

Can you tell me (if I'm not indiscreet :wink2:) where you heard about Claude for the first time ? When I was a child, I listen to him on radio an saw him on TV shows, but you ?

See you soon ! :huglove:

OH .... Audeline --

This is truly for me also, one of the MOST beautiful songs that I have ever heard! Claude's music moves me in a way that no other music on this earth can move me. THANK YOU so much for translating it for me... I 'understand' it in a way I thought I never would! :wub2:

Oh... that is okay -- I welcome ANY questions you may have. :wink2:

I can remember the very first moment that I heard Claude!!!! The first thing I ever heard was Elle me tue...... and my heart was melting into a puddle of love. I wanted to 'sing along' to the song -- so I worked on it for WEEKS before I could sing along... but, now..... over 7 years later it is as if I could speak french fluently.... although ALL I can truly say is Je t' aime......

Anyways how I even knew that Claude existed was because of my daughter's father.... he spoke fluent french.... and LOVE Claude's music.... besides my beautiful little girl -- Claude is the greatest gift he ever gave to me.

I'm really happy if my translation brings you something, whatever it's, but in a positive way .

Now I'm leaving for two days . What next song do you like ? (if you like !:wink2:)

Many, many apologies, I told you yesterday about Rupert you've a good taste ,instead of you're a girl OF good taste. In french, it's similar :roll1:

Of course, don't hesitate if you want to ask me something !

See you soon !:huglove:
