hey, sorry if it has been asked before but i dont have time to read the whole thing... i've always been attracted by lebanon and i almost went there 2 years ago but then sthg happened etc...I would like to know sthg...sometimes there is a huge difference between what you can read and how things really are... so is lebanon a very religious coutry, is the main religion greek orthodox? and is it a big part of people's life ... and also i read in the human rights that homosexuality was a crime in Lebanon and that hmosexuals are not allowed to create an association and are pursued by the vice squad, is it till true nowadays?

I also read that the gay and lesbian community is still harassed by the police and the laws, its written in the penal code that homosexuality is punishable by imprisonment regardless of age and circumstances, is it really that way???

Hello!

 

Lebanon is a beautiful country, i'm always amazed every time i go there!

You should really visit it as soon as everything will be ok (and i really hope it's very very soon)!

btw i'm watching the news flash right now!!!! it's snowing in Beyrouth, Jbeil and Hazmieh!!!! (for those who dont know it's on the beach!)

 

about the religion, there's no official pourcentage and i think they are avoiding it for the moment coz the politic is based on the religion: the politicians are representing the different religious communities in Lebanon so for example ( the numbers are false, it's just to have an idea) the maronite are 25% of the population they have 25 seats in the Parlement, chiite 25% --> 25 seats, sunites 18%--> 18 seats, greek catholics 10%--> 10 seats........and so on for the 17 different religions.

 

And about the greek orthodox, there's an important community but they aren't the biggest one, they are as many as the greek catholic i think.

Actually there's no main religion in Lebanon, as i said, there's 17.....I'd like to precise that all the problems in Lebanon arent because of religion even if it seems so.

As for the gay community things have chaged now... there are more and more Gay people over their, they don't hide, and police don't come after them.

Yes in Lebanon there are 17 different religion : 40% christians (maronite-orthodox-catholic and other ) 55% muslims (chiite and sunnite) and 5% Druze.

And YES people in lebanon are VERY religious... not always in a good way unfortunately anyway....

As for the LGBT rights in lebanon i can help you...Lebanon is the most open-minded country of the middle east BUT there is still a law which condems homosexality but this law is never applied to gay people...they live freely in lebanon but what they fear is not the law itself but homophobic people.

As for the LGBT organisation it exists and it is called Helem and it fights for tolerance. In Lebanon you can find gay night clubs and bars and other places , and they are frequented by gay , bi and by gay friendly people. I can tell you also that homosexuality is accepted more and more by youth , so everything is going ok , the goverment should just remove this stupid law but we can still wait for Lebangel to remove it

 

PS: Lebangel no i wasn't at Nice's aeroport when mika left...i think it was on sunday...and i don't live in nice

the cedars...it reminds me when i was 11 and my teacher asked me if there were a lot....and I was like: euh...not many...

and he didnt believe because Lebanon is known for Cedars, he just forget that there were a war....

Freedom is a very important subject for me, moreover in Lebanon, but i'm not a politician (not yet....maybe one day ....who knows....you will find me in the ministry of transports:naughty: )
