The incredible MikaFeb 26 2007

Watching Mika perform his hour-long set at Northumbria Union was like spending an hour skipping down the Yellow Brick Road.
Brimming with colour and creativity, and with a lady dressed-up as a doll handing out lollipops, this made for one of the years most fun gigs.
Surprisingly, unlike a lot of the other popular music at the moment, there is barely a low, melancholic note to be heard in Mika's set.
Whether you like his music or not, there is no denying this braces-wearing exceptionally tall young man has an incredible voice.
Belting out songs including Grace Kelly, Lollipop, Love Today and My Interpretation, the Beirut-born star didn't put a foot, or get a note wrong. And the crowd loved every minute of it.
Despite the venue change from Newcastle University to Northumbria, Mika's gig was worth every penny.
And bless him, he even made a special point of thanking those in the crowd who bought their tickets "before all this crazy hype kicked off".
Unbeknown to some, it has taken Mika more than a decade to fight his way into the charts with his unique-sounding melodies and engaging hooks. His music is about as far from what we now deem cool as it can be but if you want uplifting, well-sung cleverly written songs, Mika's your man.
