Well I'm glad you didn't see my post from the other page. Haha, one of the perks of being in the Eastern time zone is that we generally see things before you guys. Did you see George Bush in the crowd waving a flag like an idiot? Then there were some technical difficulties while they played the national anthem for Michael.

Yeah, they had singers at the Sydney Olympics... they often do something relating to the next host city during the closing ceremony... perfect example - In Atlanta (1996), they had kangaroos riding bycycles as part of the representation of Sydney, which held the Olympics in 2000.... They both actually received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY's this year. Too bad it was forty years later that they were finally recognized for their courage in doing it.

I don't know...I'm iffy about them, if you believe in a cause then you should stand up for it. However, I'm not sure the Olympics is the right place for it.

Like in 1980, when USA led a boycott against Russia because Russia was in Afghanistan. Now, who's in Afghanistan....USA. It's seems a little hypocritical after the fact.

Then again, I liked at the 1968 Olympics when Tommie Smith and John Carlos gave Black Power salutes when they got 1st and 3rd in the 200m. I thought it was very brave of them especially during that time, and they took a lot of criticism for it, were booed afterward and even received death threats after they were forced by the Olympic Committee to go home. Even the guy who got second, who was from Australia, took a lot of criticism from his own country for supporting the two men. He was even rejected from the next Olympic team despite the fact he was still one of the best runners. However, it was something they needed to do and now, people think it's heroic. I suppose there's a right time to make statements and there's a wrong time, and it depends on how you do it.

I feel bad for the athletes in some cases when politics get involved because they've worked their butts off to get there and then find out they their country is boycotting the Olympics or that relations between other athletes at the games will be strained because of politics. I always thougt the whole point of the Olympics is for everyone to put their differences asides and have athletes from all over the world to compete against each other.

I didn't see that. I think it's so neat when people like that get such great opportunities. They deserve it and you can tell it means the world to them.

They did a little back story on the boy, at least when they showed the clips of the ceremony, and they said he was trapped under his school and got free and went back to help get his classmates out even though it wasn't safe. Then when asked why he did what he did, he said, "I'm the hall monitor, it's my job." I actually kinda teared up when they said that.

it was incredible!

I missed it because I was working. My dad watched it and said it was awesome, which is a pretty big compliment since he's not into that sorta stuff - he normally never watches the Opening Ceremony.

I saw some parts replayed today and from what I saw, it was really cool. They were also talking about how important it was for China since they're under so much scrutiny. I'm glad it went off well and thought it was neat that Yao Ming came out with that little boy that survived the earthquake.

Wow. Michael Phelps is way too good. Did anyone watch him swim today? Earlier today he beats the Olympic record without hardly trying then later on wins the gold medal and crushes the world record. G-Dub was even in the crowd watching him.

My cousin works at Tim Horton's, but she lives in a different state. I had never heard of it until then...I don't think they have them around where I live.

About the deleted/not-approved comments. On the Yvonne and Justine blog, I just wrote "Seriously?" and although it was sarcastic, I suppose they still could have taken it as a sincere comment. It's on there. I really wanted to write "I'm calling bull sh*t on this one", but I knew that would never get approved. At first, when it didn't show up for a while I figured it got blocked even though it's not really even offensive. I just figured since it wasn't like any of the other comments "OMG, that sounds so interesting!", it would get deleted. Anyway, it wasn't, obviously.

If i wanted an analysis of Mika's music, i'd rather hear it from the person who wrote it!

Good point...that's better than what I said. I have my own interpretations of what I think Mika and other artists are saying, which is something I like about music. Therefore, the only other person I really want to hear from would be the artists themselves.

I don't mean to cause any controversy here, but what do alcohol and drugs have to do with religion? As far as I know, Islam is the only religion that has a ban on these substances, I never heard anything about Christianity.

Back on topic and answering your question: I personally don't think it's likely.

Different branches of Christianity have different views on alcohol. There aren't really any "bans" on alcohol as with Islam, and some don't think drinking alcohol is a sin but they believe getting drunk is, therefore they just don't drink alcohol at all or drink in small moderations. In particular, most Mormons abstain from alcohol. Baptists and Jehovah Witnesses both strongly discourage alcohol consumption as well.

You know...speaking of "famous" people from Valparaiso...I'm gonna have to say he's my favorite - Jeff Samardzija. Jeff plays (finally) for the Chicago Cubs (my favorite baseball team), and he used to go to Notre Dame (my favorite football team) where he played football AND baseball. He obviously decided to choose baseball over football, and I am glad he did, especially since he plays so close. Jeff actually signed a no-trade clause in his contract so he could be sure to play in front of his dad since Valparaiso is close to Chicago. I thought that was cute. He and his dad and his brother are all very close since his mom died suddenly when Jeff was in high school. My oldest brother actually played against Jeff in high school but that's beside the point.

Oh and he has beautiful, long, flowing brown hair...that he had to cut before baseball season. I'm done rambling on about him...

3. I think celebrities making a big-to do of charity work is tacky. I think even when Mika gets a lot more money, any charity work he does would not be very publicized. He doesn't seem the type to trot it out on parade, so I think he'd do it without many people knowing that he did.

I feel the same. I harp about that all the time. I'd actually rather NOT hear about Mika giving to charity than have him sell pictures of his babies to a magazine for charity.

I saw it again last weekend and there were a lot of things that I noticed this time around that I didn't last time...it probably had to do with the fact that it was 9 o'clock instead of midnight when the movie started. One of thing I'm really surprised I didn't notice before was (spoiler) the look Ramirez makes after she talks to Harvey about Rachel so you know something bad is gonna happen. I never even noticed that before and watching it again, it was pretty obvious.

Soooo thought I add that there may be a new number 1 in tennis and of course that'd be Rafa. Roger lost the other day to some 16th seed...Karlovic or something like that. I watched the first set and couldn't believe he lost and then started watching it again and really couldn't believe he lost the match. Anyway, ESPN said that if Rafa wins Cincinnati he could very well be number 1. I've been waiting three years for him to be number 1 and will be very excited when he gets it.

It might! Security is a very valuable resource before and after a gig. Building up a chatty rapport with guards is a good idea. Our's was named Timothy. We took pictures with him.

Ours was Earl and he likes blueberry muffins. And we took pictures with the security guards too. Glad we weren't the only ones. We were chatting up everyone we could find...Sara Bareilles, her driver, her band, the security guards, people waiting in line with us, Cubs fans walking by, basically anybody that would talk to us...and Mika. We're just like that. Funny I remember all that but had to go back and read my report on what happened when I actually met Mika.

I didn't go with anyone from the MFC either, though I saw many people from the MFC.

I went to a concert in Chicago, and we all met out in front so we all knew where to go. Plus, we talked to the security guards, and they were the ones that lined us all up. I suppose it's different at every place. I was very surprised at how easy it was for us.
