  1. Hey everyone :biggrin2:

I'm just dropping by to say I hope you all enjoy the gig, and have a great time..this is the ONE European gig I would LOVE to be able to go to, as I spent four of the happiest years of my life in Lisbon and I adore the place, it's kind of my spiritual home :wub2:. I even used to live really close to Campo Pequeno. So I will be there in spirit with you all!!

    DIVIRTAM-SE! :thumb_yello:

  2. :furious:

I just spent ages doing a multi-quote reply to various posts on here and it took a long time for me to get my thoughts/wording right and then MFC logs me out and I lost the lot...aagggghhh :sneaky2: Why is it I can stay logged in unintentionally for days sometimes, yet get logged out every two minutes other days??? pfft.

I can't be bothered to redo it :sneaky2:.

  3. As a cinema worker, I always feel like I have inside knowledge :roftl::roftl:

Anyway, something that I've noticed is that Clash of the Titans came out AFTER Kick Ass, but we have these monthly books that say what films are coming out soon and say what they're about.

Last month, Clash of the Titans was on the front cover, despite Kick Ass coming out first. COTT has been the busiest film (apart from Nanny McPhee 2 ) so far. This month however, Kick Ass is on the front cover of the cinema magazine. I don't know if this is because they wanted to get the big budget 3D film hyped up and then die down so they could get it over and done with and THEN push Kick Ass...if this is how it's supposed to work, I can kinda see why they pushed the single back until May 3rd, because in my cinema, Kick Ass usually only averages around 30-40 people going to see it per screening so far, so I'm wondering if the big wigs are hoping it will be more popular this month. :dunno:

It's half term now and it was dead on Sunday (the whole cinema, not Kick Ass), and yesterday I was on pick ups. Nanny McPhee and Clash of the Titans were the worst ones, but I think Kick Ass is starting to pick up a bit. However, people are still leaving before his song comes on and that's no surprise.

What Japanese people do (or what I know of, anyway...I know at least one group who do this), they release all of their singles first and then the album comes out last. That way their sales for singles are quite high because there's no other way the public can listen to them because they haven't got the album, and then when the album comes out people still buy it because there are extra songs on there that haven't been released. IMO, I think this kind of strategy works, because it's the singles that support the album and not the other way around.

What certificate is COTT? Is it a family film (ie unlike Kick-Ass, Cert. 15)? If so then that's possibly why it is being 'pushed' in front of KA, as it's the school holiday period. Not that I know ANYTHING about the way the movie industry works.

As for the way the Japanese do the single/album thing, that's the way it was over here too back in my youth (:naughty: :wheelchair:). It just seems to have turned around completely now, here. Albums are everything and singles are the poor relation.

  4. I don't stalk people :naughty::teehee:

Lolz no seriously, I won't. I'm a good girl :original:

But this is good news, so woot! Digital Spy is a big and rather famous forum, no?

I'd welcome a few stalkers on there actually :roftl:, it might liven things up, it's a big old place isn't it and not as friendly or interesting as our cuddly MFC :naughty:.

  5. Yes, it's a disgrace but it's true! If it was Gaga, or even Robbie Williams, they'd be already making a fuss of the song and would never stop playing it. I'm grateful you've told me it is a standard reply they sent me. Besides, they can't say that Kick-Ass isn't relevent! It's from a blockbuster movie for Heaven's sake! Thay also can't claim the song wouldn't appeal to young people when the title is Kick-Ass (We are young)

On the same forum I mentioned in my last post there is a thread called 'Your Current Three Favourite Songs'. A very encouraging number of people have Kick-Ass in their top three. :wink2: It obviously IS relevant, and people like it. This we already know..pity some radio stations don't :sneaky2:.

Maybe as the single release date gets closer it will appear on the R1 playlists, I have a feeling it will, well you have to be optimistic :naughty:.

  6. A few months ago, I browsed through my YT favourites and discovered a MGMT video, it was Kids.

I heard it and was addicted.:mf_lustslow: I totally forgot that I have it in my favourites.

Time to Pretend is also a fantastic song.

But: I heard Kids on Youtube live, and I must admit: It sounds horrible, totally out of tune.

I don't know, whether they're always that bad on stage, sorry, but no.:boxed:

They have improved massively over the last couple of years, from when I saw them live in June 08, judging from recent Youtube footage I've seen and from word of mouth.

Andrew still hasn't got the strongest voice in the world IMO :naughty: but even that has really improved, and he seems to be a little more confident too. They're all great musicians actually and the whole ensemble finally seem to have gelled together. Also, the new album seems to have been written with live performance in mind and thus sounds great! I can't wait to see them again in September.

I don't think they really enjoy playing Kids live any more :wink2:. It's going to end up being their 'Creep' (Radiohead) isn't it. :mf_rosetinted:

  7. I contacted Radio One to ask why Mika's Kick Ass isn't on any playlist yet? This is the reply I got via email

Radio 1 has a very democratic playlist process and the team who meet to

discuss the music we play are carefully chosen to reflect a wide range

of tastes and areas of expertise. With only 50 current records on our

weekly daytime playlist we simply cannot play everything. We have to

have an opinion on music and in fact the audience strongly values Radio

1's role as a powerful new music filter. With thousands of tracks to

choose from we must select a range of the best new music relevant to our

young target audience. No individual will agree with every decision we

make, we accept that, as the perceived 'quality' and 'relevance' of

music is subjective. I am sorry if we are not supporting your favourite

artist or record, but it is simply impossible to please everyone!

For more answers to questions about the playlist please visit:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/playlist_faqs.shtml

I am extremely dissapointed by that reply. It's like they don't think Mika's song is relevent or something!

I wouldn't worry too much about the wording of the email..it is word-for-word identical to the email somebody else got (who posted on another forum I frequent) when they questioned Radio One's playlist policy (not to do with Mika in that instance). It's obviously the standard email they send out to anyone who dares complain :naughty:

I agree with you about Gaga though, if it was HER singing Kick-Ass Radio 1 would be all over it like a rash already.

  8. I think the strategy is indeed to sell whole albums first. I think the plan was to release the whole soundtrack first in order to get moviegoers buying the soundtrack... then let they hype around the single build, in theory resulting in a big "burst" of sales when the single is finally released.

I'm skeptical that it will work, though. I guess it depends on how much attention Kick Ass gets over the next four weeks. If it's all over radio and TV by May 4th, this delayed approach could work - the song will still be in the public consciousness when the single is released. If it doesn't do well on radio and TV, however, I think they run a big risk - they risk "losing" people who see the movie early, try to buy the song and can't, and thus forget about it.

I would really love the chance to sit down and talk to someone "in the biz" about all this. If any music marketing types are lurking, send me a PM. :naughty:

I also think it's a risky tactic, even though I fully understand that they want to push the soundtrack album first and foremost. I know that singles nowadays are used largely as selling points for albums and I don't have a problem with that, it's the way the industry is going and has been so for a while now. My problem is this lengthy delay in making the single available. Kick-Ass isn't even on the playlists of Radio 1 yet . Somewhere along the line, momentum is lost and that's when singles 'flop' in the charts when they are eventually released.

So yes, I'm basically agreeing with you and your concerns (and those of a few others here it seems) :wink2:

  9. I'm just wondering how this is going to be the hit it deserves to be...

Hardly anyone who goes to see the film will hear it because they'll have left the cinema by the time it's played over the final end credits.

If people who have seen the film then buy the soundtrack, at least they'll hear it, but then as they'll already have it anyway, they won't buy the single in its own right.

And radio play seems at best minimal.

Are there any posters up anywhere - I don't mean film posters, I mean posters for the single - so people (apart from us lot) actually know the song exists? :dunno:

I'd hate to see a good opportunity for Mika slide away...

    My thoughts exactly.

The way the music industry works at times is a complete mystery to me. :dunno:. People want this single NOW...they want to hear it, Youtube is testament to that, they want to buy it, as a single, and they want to see it on the video channels. By rights it should already be in the charts and a hit.

Instead, what do we have? A month's wait to buy it as a single. I just don't get it, can someone explain it to me please (and that's not a rhetorical question btw).

  10. Just got back from a long weekend away, internet-less, and I can tell you I was having real withdrawal symptoms from Congratulations . Only a week to go before I can legally download it :biggrin2:.

Mici..thanks for those nice pictures :das: Andrew looks a bit Mika-ish in that top hat :wub2:.
