  1. As you probably saw on Twitter, I had a FANTASTIC time last night. My god, they blow me away every time. The horrible wait was completely worth it to be front row and so close to them. I will be writing a full report again with all the super exciting details, but that won't be for another few days here. I'm gonna have to do all my writing in the middle of the night since my days are getting so busy.

Just a few show notes, they played Indie Rokkers and 4th Dimensional Transition! :biggrin2: But no Siberian Breaks. The Handshake was beyond words incredible and they added something to the end of it...something I'd never heard before. Neither the music nor the words were familiar. New material or a cover? I dunno, it was awesome though. They went way over their set time, but nobody minded. I counted, they played 15 songs. That is LONG for a festival set.

    Setlist (from what I remember)

    Destrokk

    Weekend Wars

    Flash Delirium

    Electric Feel

    The Youth

    Of Moons, Birds and Monsters

    [song for Dan Treacy

    Indie Rokkers

    It's Working

    4th Dimensional Transition

    Time to Pretend

The Handshake] the order on these songs is probably not right. I don't exactly remember

    Congratulations

    Kids

    Brian Eno

They all looked like they had so much fun. And Ben talked! He talked to the audience. First time I'd seen that happen. They all were smiling a lot and goofing around with each other. Their energy was so big that it totally rubbed off on the audience. It was such a great show.:wub2:

And of course after the show we had to try to meet them. Which we did. Got to talk briefly with Andrew and Will. Would've loved to talk to James after seeing him three times before and after the show, but he got mobbed every single time. I wanted to talk to Matt because I never thanked him for last time, but he didn't come out and I was bummed. At least I got to wave goodbye to them as the van drove away.

Thanks for the report and the tweets too, it sounds like you had a great time :thumb_yello:. That's a long set for a festival! What a treat!

4th DT is great live isn't it; it blew me away in Manchester. And I wonder what the bit at the end of The Handshake was?? Intriguing.

Also, I have to agree with what you said in your tweets, about you really only wanting to shake hands with them and say thanks for everything, after the show. I'm so glad you said that. It really annoys me too when fans say stupid and frankly embarrassing things to Andrew (or whoever), especially if they are way old enough to know better! One woman -woman, not girl - at Manchester shouted something to him along the lines of "I want your sperm Andrew!!". Well...I cringed for her right down to my toes, and for Andrew too (though no doubt he's heard far worse:sneaky2::naughty:). NOT COOL, though :sneaky2:.

I'm not being holier-than-thou here btw...I'm the first to admit I had a little "moment" right after meeting Andrew :roftl:, but I made sure I was WELL out of earshot first!! I'm only human :mf_rosetinted: but hopefully a respectful one, and definitely old enough to know better :naughty:.

  2. I think you've already seen this if you use twitter and follow Bruce. :naughty:

This made me smile and sob. :tears: This is so touching. And music is really beautiful. Do you see the kid of joy that is radiated from every face in the vid? PS22 chorus can never be wrong. Their cover of Coldplay's Viva La Vida gave me tears too. The teacher is truly a hero. I wish I could have a music teacher and class like this when I was little.

Sorry MGMT, I think I'm liking this version better. :teehee:

It's really good! I love the vocal arrangement they've done with it. I really enjoy seeing enthusiastic children's choirs :wub2: Things like this prove what a universally good pop song Kids is. I do hope that despite everything, Andrew and Ben are proud of how that song they wrote so long ago still connects with people.

    The day is here.

I'm leaving in a little while to go see them again. :boing:

Don't worry, a full report will come afterwards and I'm gonna try to tweet about what's going on. They won't actually be performing for about 12 hours, so wish us luck in finding them before the

    show!:aah:

:woot_jump: Hope you have a great time! Hope to see some good tweets...!

  3. I'd rather kick their asses :naughty:

I loved their performance at World Cafe especially Siberian Breaks :wub2: and the interviewer got Andrew's name wrong :roftl:

    :shocked::roftl: You're cruel.

I didn't hear the World Cafe thing, but I did see Bruce's tweet about the mispronunciation :teehee:

  4. Girls, we should quickly start a "serious music discussion" on this thread, since me and Rachel try to get new members and have bragged about not drooling over the guys on this thread. :roftl:

So.....ehmmmm.....do you know what really fascinates me? The fact that Andrew always remembers the lyrics to the songs & never forgets them at gigs even though they are really difficult to memorize since no rhymes and stuff. I mean, I know he writes them, but hey, Mika does this as well....:teehee: I still don't know most of them, have to learn a few by heart so I can sing along (quietly!) at the gig in December.

Btw. as far as I could see there is a new message on Spotify about the gig - I am not quite sure if I understood it, since my French is bad, but I think you could watch the gig from tonight on - will try it later.

Haha, I've just posted to suzie on that other thread that I'm going to quickly edit out all the fangirlish bits from my posts here, before she sees them :roftl:!!

Ok, let the serious discussion begin :mf_rosetinted:.

Andrew is pretty. Sorry, I mean, pretty good at remembering lyrics :naughty:. I'm sure he messed up on Congratulations though in Manchester . I will have to go to Youtube to verify that though!

And that's good news about spotify..I've been trying to find the so-called 'captation du concert' ever since last week, but it didn't seem to exist :dunno:. So it's good that they finally seem to be putting it on there.

  5. Sorry I have to quote this too!! You've put it in the best way :wub2:

Needa confess that dreamy poet is really my type of guy (I kind of study literature!) but well, I always think I'm TOO STUPID to be Andrew's friend. :roftl: Maybe I can get his strange words at times but surely I don't know how to respond to them in the same witty funny way :teehee:

And you know what? The Barcelona show which I wanted to go to is SOLD OUT. I was so hopeless yesterday when I saw this that I almost cried :tears: Yet, I'm still so unsure about my European trip in Dec...... what should I do??

Yes I get what you mean about Andrew :naughty:

That's such a shame about Barcelona :boxed:. What about the Lisbon or Madrid gigs? Any chance you could go there? Both fabulous cities.

  6. I know, me too! Because Andrew is a weirdo :freak::mf_rosetinted:

Noooo, because he's more the frontman/hippie/rockstar/somewhat dreamy poet who writes all those lovely but strange lyrics. Ben is more the type of guy who a girl could bring home to her parents, if you know what I mean.

But, hey who knows that really, we Bulgarians have a saying: "Beware! The calm water is always the deepest." Perhaps it's just the other way around...

Yeah I do know what you mean :naughty:. And Ben is definitely my type: a bit geeky and shy :naughty:

The phrase exists in English too; it's 'still waters run deep' :wink2:.

  7. I googled him and he seems to be a famous football player? http://www.officialbrettfavre.com/home/

But I don't get those tweets either. Apparently some kind of US joke we foreigners don't understand...

I liked your dream :teehee: But why Andrew and not Ben? I thought Ben is your fave...

I like them both, I don't really have a favourite. I guess I like them in different ways :naughty:. I guess I overstate the case for Ben sometimes because it annoys me that a lot of casual MGMT fans are just Andrew fangurls, whereas I personally do find Ben very attractive too, just in a different way :biggrin2:

I always have the feeling I'd probably get along better with Ben than Andrew, if I knew them.

  8. I had a great MGMT dream last night. I was in a Water Park with them all, and I went in this big whirlpool thing with Andrew. We were riding around really fast on this inflatable dolphin :lmfao: I was lying on the dolphin and Andrew was lying on top of me  on my back :das:

:roftl:I think I'd better stop there. It was very nice though.:mf_rosetinted:

  9. This is sweet. :wub2: And may I ask if your version of Congratulations includes the customised coin? 'Cause I don't have a lyric SHEET, there's a little BOOKLET instead

It's not any special version it's just a basic CD with a fold-out sheet of lyrics which has a picture on the back, like a small poster. I'm not really a collector of special stuff, in fact it's not often I even buy physical CDs at all these days.

Yes I do I still remember the beginning of the Vlog !

And someone else told me he also played Flash Delirium in Spain and Italy.

Really??? for some reason, that's made me very happy. :wub2:

Girls I have great news :teehee:

    I hope it is true.

This is just going to be awesome!!! :naughty:

  10. I'm so annoyed..I am sure the gig from last night is available on spotify to rewatch for another month, but when I go to the spotify blog, all I get is a blank box where a video should be. I'm having this same problem quite often with other videos/links/pics in Internet Explorer :sneaky2:. And I can't use Firefox because that just totally crashes on me.

Has anyone used Google Chrome?? :dunno:

I can live without seeing last night's concert, but still, it's so frustrating knowing it's there (well, Spotify France say it's there??) and not being able to access it.

The only moment that really saddened me was when Andrew asked: "How many pple have heard of our album "Congratulations"? and as few screamed he was like: Yay! and put his fist in the air. I was really sad, because it felt like he is/they are still unsure that pple come because of that to gigs and like they are still playing only to a "Kids" audience... Grrrrrr, it makes me mad, because this really isn't true and I don't want them to get insecure about their music. But perhaps this is only me overinterpreting again :dunno:

    I know :crybaby:

It must be gutting for them to know that they made a great album, which many true fans do adore, but which just hasn't connected with the masses. However, they must have known that this might happen. They MUST have? They knew it was a less commercial album.

I really wish I had told Andrew how much I love Congratulations (I'm repeating myself again, sorry). I know that if I was in his position, it would mean a lot to me to just hear a few fans tell me that to my face now and again . Perhaps I am fantasising here (:aah:) but I like to think that when he handed me back the lyric sheet from Congrats that I'd asked him to sign and he looked straight into my eyes and smiled that he was acknowledging the fact I own the album. Yeah I know, it's a stretch :teehee:, but it makes me happy LOL.

  11. Missed the livestream tonight, had to be the sociable wife and mother tonight :naughty: but well, just occasionally, there IS more to life than MGMT, or so they tell me.....?!?!

Sounds like it was great though and I believe the whole thing is available to watch again on Spotify for the next week so I'll catch up with it. There's just nothing like watching these things live though... it's why the internet was invented, let's not be in any doubt :naughty:

Glad some of you guys got to see it though!

Edit: SE, your sig is mesmerising! Even the dirty socks! lol

  12. No I wish and it is in French as i can see from the small article.

Aw shame. I do speak French so that wouldn't be a problem, but without the full article it's a bit pointless. Never mind. It's probably the same old stuff anyway :naughty:.

Violens seem to be quite popular in France.

  13. Mgmt and Jorge from Violens in Magic mag :teehee:

I wish I could read the article.

I really want to read that article too!! I love Jorge :wub2::das:

Do you have scans which show the whole article?

Actually, we didn't queue at all! We could just walk to the front, and we weren't ridiculously early there, so that was quite nice.

I really liked the gig, they played very well (but otherwise I wouldn't have bought tickets to see them, I always check if the band is good live before I go to see them). They played Siberian Breaks, Indie Rokkers and Destrokk here too, so that was a very nice surprise.I really liked the new songs live too, especially Siberian Breaks and Congratulations, with which they opened. And The Handshake was also very beautiful. The projections on the screen reminded me a bit of the projections of Montreal used, only a bit less extravagant.:naughty: The crowd was a bit boring, but after a while they got into it (or maybe it was the alcohol :naughty:). But we did a bit of jumping, which is always good.

I was really surprised that Andrew has such a high voice when he's talking. I thought he looked very shy..

This all sounds very much like my own experience in Manchester.:thumb_yello: If we'd queued just half an hour earlier than we did (which was pretty late!) we would probably have got front row. It was quite relaxed. As it was, though, we went to Mcdonalds instead..:naughty:

When Karen and I met Andrew afterwards we also thought his speaking voice was quite high pitched. And yes, he comes across as a little bit shy. Don't know how to really explain this but he has a lovely aura about him..very 'soft' for want of a better word . He kind of projects lovely soft vibes.

About being shy: Andrew said in an interview they aren't the natural born performers, they prefer recording much more to performing and added: "Ben never talks on stage". To which Ben said: "No" & and looked very embarrassed. :roftl: .

Ben's so fascinating to watch on stage though!! I had a great view of him, and spent a lot of my time watching him. He didn't speak except for when he was commenting on the infamous beer-throwing-at-Will-incident (which can be heard clearly at the end of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IS3GxhMwvbw). But after nearly every song he would walk to the edge of the stage and have a little chat with the roadie who sets up his equipment (aside: he was cute :teehee:) and I couldn't decide if he was having technical problems or just having a chat :naughty:. He smiled a lot anyway and seemed to be drinking beer during the set. Did I mention I love Ben?:mf_rosetinted:

  14.

They didn't play Indie Rokkers at Brussels, they played Destrokk and Sib. Breaks. I suppose it would be too much for the fans to play both.

I actually wonder why they don't play Love always remains? PPle would love it. Personally I would die to hear Boogie Down live, but I am not sure they can make this on stage. :dunno:

They played all three at Manchester :woot_jump:

I'd love to hear Love Always Remains too, but I think a live version would have to be so different. The vocal harmonies might be a bit too much. :teehee: I reckon Boogie Down would be easier. Anyway I just want to hear Andrew sing 'I wanna check out your components' :das:.

  15. Oh go on then, you've twisted my arm. Put me on. :teehee:

Lovely as his skin is, sometimes I'd just like to see a little pimple or a blackhead on those huge close up pics, because I have a bit of a kink for that sort of thing :freak: Not full on skin breakouts, just the odd spot that looks like it needs to be gently squeezed..

    *thinks that might be TMI*

  16. Great picture, lol :roftl:.

Saw them live yesterday, they were really great.:biggrin2:Their guitarist was VERY stoned :P

:roftl: I can believe it! Was it in Amsterdam by any chance?? :mf_rosetinted::naughty:

  17. I didn't know that Cantora Records was set up by their friends! May I ask who produced Climbing To New Lows then? Also by Cantora??

    I think so, yes.

I am so happy to be going to the gig in December, but I really wish I could take you girls with me. I have someone to go with me, but he's not so much in MGMT as I am and it would be more fun to go with you, because you'll know what I am talking about...ah, well, one can't have everything...

It'd be great if we could all go to a gig together (and sing along to Siberian Breaks :naughty:).

    My new favorite picture

    rsteviemooremgmt.jpg

I love that :roftl: Who is the beardy dude?? :teehee:

It's just begging for a caption, but I can't think of one!!

btw, did anyone else see Bruce's tweets this evening? :roftl:

  18. I liked the NME article too. I hadn't read it before this afternoon, so I'm pleased to see that what I was saying in my post earlier about me feeling like there are two MGMTs seems to be what Ben and Andrew themselves are thinking - and no doubt many serious fans too!

The idea of two different kinds of show is just :roftl:. Brilliant. I'd go to both and enjoy both equally, on totally different levels. Is it any wonder the media can't get a handle on MGMT, if they admit themselves they have a split personality as a band and a concept? :naughty:. But to me it's what makes them so interesting. :biggrin2:

As for Congratulations, yeah, what they say is so true. Part of me wishes sometimes they would not take the piss so much and risk being massively misquoted, but on the other hand I love their attitude, and why should they rein in the bulls*** just to please the likes of the NME?? :teehee:

And the livestream!!! I missed it too!! :tears: (Despite the fact that even though I was not occupied by work, the time of streaming would be weird to me like 4-5a.m.:boxed:) Are there any ways to watch it back??

I don't think you can watch it back. I haven't seen anything yet on the forum about recordings :dunno:

There is another one on Friday I think, from Paris, starting at 9pm Paris time, but I don't know any more details. The time difference makes it very difficult for you though doesn't it .

And Rachel, I think your kids have good taste of music already!! :thumb_yello: Do they play any instruments?

Son is getting a drumkit for Christmas..he shows promise, and I'm proud of that and want to encourage him, but.... MY POOR EARS :aah: Daughter is self-teaching guitar (acoustic and electric) and having keyboard tuition.

  19. Oh, how sweet of your son! I always find it cool when kids like the music their parents are listening to. Perhaps one day he'll be a Indie Rokker too and when asked about it he'll say, well my mum listened to MGMT, Violence...

They were great. I could listen to hours and hours and hours of them... And you know what? It almost irritated me that they played "old" songs from OS. I almost wanted them to play only "Congratulations"... No, that's not right. I was irritated by Kids and E Feel and Time to Pretend. I only wanted them to play the "real" MGMT songs, like "Youth" and "4th DT" and the new ones... I must confess that Of BT&M never was one of my favorite songs, but last night it was one of the best! It sounded so great live. Amazing. Also "The Youth". I could have cried listening to it...

I know it'll never happen, but it would be cool if they could make one gig only with Congratulation songs... it would be like some kind of trance.

My son, in fact both my kids, are massive fans of the Beatles. Proper fans, by which I mean they love The White Album :roftl:. My son also really likes Radiohead and Kraftwerk :naughty:, and they both like MGMT. I hope they'll grow up with diverse musical taste, although I expect at some point they'll rebel against the music we've brought them up on, as all teenagers do :teehee:.

I totally agree with you about a live version of Congratulations! It would be :rasta::groovy::insane: They should play it in the album order too, as it flows so well. I do really love Kids and TTP and EF but (and this is hard to explain) somehow they sound to me like a different MGMT, as if they are two different bands: one who do Kids, and get the masses up dancing, and one who do for example 4th Dimensional Transition or Siberian Breaks and put us more discerning (yes, I will say that :mf_rosetinted::naughty:) fans into a trance, where we don't want to dance, we just want to listen and soak it up. Does that make sense?

I think I did say in my gig report that as much as I love 'the hits', it annoyed me that I felt a significant percentage of the audience were only really there for those three songs. But I guess that happens with a lot of bands/artists. Even with Mika to a large extent :wink2:.
