It could be that you can't take away from the fact that he did not particularly sing well or even in tune .... I can and view it as a song and what potential it has. So perhaps when you hear the final version you will love it - or at least another one. .. so don't give up yet.

Part 2: I like some football anthems, like the above mentioned Three Lions on the Shirt or "World in Motion" by New order. Maybe more, I just don't remember them that well.

I don't mind silly songs but it kind of hurts Mika has turned 180 degrees vs the original concept he presented himself with: basically not toeing the line. Make You Happy, on the other hand, sounds great to me so I wonder if he has been given an ultimate to produce a huge summer hit before the album is out or he won't get maximum support:dunno: They must have worked a lot on this song to sound simple enough.

Part 1 There is something for the 'ooh ' part that reminds me of part a song / sound, too but because I never pay attention to those, I would never know which one, I guess or maybe the ooh at the end of 'Waving the Flag'?

Actually, the basic beat of the song in the first part, which I find hurtfully dumbed down, reminds me of the beat in many simple songs from the eighties, those produced by the Stock-Aitken-Waterman trio, so that put me off it immediately, but later on it is quite ok, except for the irritatingly simple lyrics, and then at the end I really like the "I wanna come home" part, so to celebrate that, I am now listening to 'Football's Coming Home from 96/98 ...

You know, I have been thinking which recent football song 'Celebrate' reminds me of and tried to look if I wrote it on the Eurovision thread perhaps as I thought the same about Loreen's song and this is what I found I wrote on 26th February:

"Wow! How catchy and unoriginal...() this one will go far, that's for sure

It actually sounds like it could be used as a football anthem or the official song to any sports championship, too and I can totally see it end up as the winning or the runner up song this year."

So I did think she'd win it actually.

Well, Germany came second in Hungary (Sweden first) so my preference may be partly cultural except that it was a proper international pop song I stiéé have in my ears even though I only heard it twice.

It is so true about people being influenced like that when it comes to them being told what is supposed to be of value. It’s like some believing that anyone signing classical music can only sing it well or an opera singer can only do something breathtakingly amazing. :rolls_eyes:

Not to mention an opera singer making any duet sound ’operatic’ ( )

Part2: Another surprise to me was Albania getting so many points – she came third in Hungary She definitely stood out from the rest but it was a kind of experimental song for which one would probably need to understand the lyrics but her voice itself is not particularly good – unless singing in an ear-splitting way is considered as art now The Spanish contestant sang really well on the other hand and was not rewarded that much. There are obviously some country preferences: should Engelbert Humperdinck represented Russia or sang in Serbian, for example, he would have been in top 5 for sure. Perhaps if evaluation was based on the real number of votes across the whole of Europe and not by country, the end result would be completely different.

I usually don’t watch tv, only listen to it as some background entertainment while I do other things. Perhaps that’s why I was not paying much attention on the performances themselves although I remember clearly during the replay of the song snippets that I thought Loreen was acting like Kate Bush and that she looked really ‘arty’ adding ‘value’ to the song. Now thinking about it, I think it was that song I said sounded like a football anthem earlier on the Eurovision thread so I did hear that song before.

As for the Norwegian guy, I never really liked the song (sorry:teehee: ) . I thought it sounded a bit ‘fake’ (i.e. following predictable patterns yet put together in a slightly lame way). I usually have a similar opinion on many Eurovision songs though. This year it was the Lithuanian song that annoyed me the most in that respect: to me it sounded like a parody of a ‘hit song’. Obviously my view was not shared by many as it did receive many points.

I was not near the net to comment on the second semi-final or the final but I watched both and to be honest, I was rather surprised about the Swedish song winning as I did not even remember that one I understand it must be a 'grower' and its sound is very trendy so no surprise there perhaps for others.

I found the results rather strange especially Denmark finishing with hardly any points but perhaps young people watching preferred the modern club sound rather than the 90s style by that Danish girl or the German guy, for example, whose song was really good

When I arrived home 2 days later I was considering posting but the thread was not that live so I decided not to but catch up with work instead.

I also don't understand Hungary finishing 24th but I am obviously biased.

I think I lost my ability to predict Eurovision hits. What were your thoughts?

yes, I had bad experience with festival goers in Serbia and Hungary (the only 2 festivals I attended for Mika gigs) but the concerts themselves were good.

I would have never gone to any festivals this summer but since it is in my country, I need to be there and do a bit of encouragement and support (near) front row. I'd even go to Exit again, I think.

This Balaton Sound festival is actually for a younger audience - mostly students and young graduates, I suppose -, so there shouldn't be much trouble. The performers are usually dance acts and it looks like David Guetta is the biggest name this year (for that audience, anyway)
