  1. @mikasounds Where in Australia should the MFC wait to have the best hope of seeing you pass by?

ok, I sent my message, but I hate to hassle - he might one day abandon twitter if he gets too much flak.

I decided that the more individual fans he heard from the more chance he might do something for us.

    I can hope, anyway...

  2. Hey!!

Are you planning on airport stalking? :das:

No airport stalking for me, unfortunately. Canberra is not likely as a destination, and I have too much to do to get to Sydney on an offchance.

Unless of course I can claim its an MFC get toegther. Are there any airport stalkers out there needing companionship? I could be tempted! LOL

  3. No airport stalking for me, unfortunately. Canberra is not likely as a destination, and I have too much to do to get to Sydney on an offchance.

If we can find out an actual timeline or location, I would get there just to finalise my long standing mission, but I'm not quite rabid enough to go on a maybe.

I'm also quite busy and now is really bad timing, but hey, he seems to aim for Australia in winter.

So, I'm definite for a definite, but nowhere for a ghost.

  4. I've got to read this thread!

It's so funny- I had a whim this morning to compare the MFC with other artists fanclubs/websites and just see what others had etc.

I started with Katy Perry, whom I don't like, but thought she should be 'big' enough to be a reasonable comparison. - Nothing much, and the self-titled site is in spanish!

As a next and final check, I chose Jason Mraz, because I have heard two of his songs in the last few months, and have quite liked them both.

So I started reading jounal entries, starting with Travel Tip No.3 Bring a big f...ng knife!

Now I have to go back to the very beginning to read every single journal entry, because I'm already hooked. Damm he can write! Do the lyrcs compare? Guess I'll be finding out!

Of course I looked here immediately, because there were bound to be MFCers ahead of me in this discovery.

Hi everyone, I'm moving in! But I don't chatter very much, so you won't notice me around very often...

  5.

Thanks heaps! Not sure about 'fancy' except in the stand back and admire sense, because that face does not look cuddly! I'm off the check the links!

  6. THIS ONE?

    BlueBoy2.jpg

    I quite fancy him!

    A. Clay, where did you find this picture and who is it of? It's fantastic!

Maybe Mika is just as simple minded as I am because that's all I thought it was about anyway. :naughty:

I learned when I studied English at school that the authors never understood half of what could/would be interpreted from their words, which the author would say made the interpretations invalid.

However, if you dug deeper and leraned about the life and times of the author, you began to understand that waht they write is a product of themeselves, their lives and their times, and their world-view is necessarily reflected in their word. Sometimes they are trying to get a contrary or different view across, but you still need to know what it is different from...

So Mika and Christine can have a simple interpretation, but Mika's writing comes out of him, and he is not simple...

  7. Yes, I loved it when I first heard it, but was thinkin more about GGG, the obvious hit. But then I didn't hear the songs for a few days because the vids disappeared, and suddenly it was Toy Boy I was wanting to hear again! when I did hear it again (thanks to those peeps who put the vids up again) I just realised, that song has everything, and Mika acts it out so well and means every word and every note he sings. I also heard him say (and I hadn't heard that at first) that the song meant a lot to him. He's put his heart and soul into it, and you can really tell he has. It's the perfect match of song and singer. Amazing!

He also muttered something after that. It sounded like "I like this song a lot, but I'm not sure - " and then he waas interrupted by a band member and did not finish his sentence. I wonder if he will, next time...

I absolutely adore this song, and the melody is an instant hit, but the words are very much more problematical for the general public to accept. Billy Brown also remained as a 'live' favourite only. It will take a very brave record company to release it as a single. Maybe they'd release it as something like the third or fourth single if the album is another massive hit. Here's hoping!

  8. Can I suggest that in the first verse, he sings 'when she adored ya, the whole room would get to know'...?

I'm also convinced I hear the word 'munter' in there :boxed:

'sugar daddy, but he's just a munter'

For those who don't know, munter is a British slang term for a very unattractive woman :boxed::blink: (which doesn't really fit with sugar daddy) but I believe it can also be used to refer to a drug user, which may fit. I may be totally wrong about hearing this of course but it's just another theory.

It's so hard to hear the words of this song. :naughty:

    a sugar daddy? but he's just a PUNTER (?)

-meaning doesn't matter if he's rolling in cash, she is basically a prostitute and the richer the better but basically he is paying for a service???

Just an idea ..never listened again it was just Munter to PUNTER? maybe?

Ooooo I dunoooooo Meeks please help us out you tease! lol

    xxx

I hear "mantra" because I've never heard of 'munter", but I've got no idea how it would fit in...

  9. Hey, that is what I thougth to hear all the time. And then I kept on thinking that it didn't make sense......

I then thought he maybe extended the crueeeeeeel cross.....??

I agree. I got that when I watched his mouth form the words on the video. He does not seem to shape "blue'.

  10. I wished to know, and now I kinda don't want to know. I wouldn't want to if he was straight either. Takes the fun, mystery out of everything. :roftl:

and, BTW, me being a young thing doesn't label me as "in it for the looks" does it?

I loved Grace kelly before I knew who sang it.

Saved - by Grace Kelly! I got caught that way too! And by the video, so I have no defence!

I wasn't having a go at you for being "in it for the looks", or it would be fanclub dismissed, with very few left standing (and me not amongst them.:roftl:) Hopefully not our main reason, but certainly an added bonus. :naughty:

My point is, that singing that song, any song, did not spoil his 'pretty'.

So if you were/are upset, it would not have been for that reason.

Anyway, I'm sorry for any upset I caused you. - You were only the catalyst that triggered me. :huglove:

It was mostly because of the instant reactions others also had on hearing it for the first time.

I like the mystery too, and I'm proud of Mika, because I actually think it is the harder road.

Luckily, as we have proven with the discussion in this thread so far, if you don't like the instant assumption you made, there's at least one more interpretation you can choose. :wink2:

Although that's not a nice choice either, possibly between "I'm gay" and "I feel powerless and abused". I think my preferred option is that when the ineveitable questions require a journalistic answer, he reveals another third party outlook - another friend he just happened to write about...

  11. This is a case where the answer is too much fun and too easy. I wandered away, knowing I shouldn't, and came back because I just can't resist it. No offense intended, so please, don't snap back except in fun....

    Sincere apologies in advance!

    Oh damn, he's gay.:blush-anim-cl::roftl:

Wow, when you hear it screaming in a song other than Billy brown it makes you a bit....well...there's no more mystery...anymore.....

    Careful what you wish for.

    Oh damm...

    Did you wish......????

Well, I guess all you young things will have to cross him off your list of prospective husbands, and try to find a decent straight guy somewhere else...

So where does that leave the poor fellow....?

Next concert, he'll look down the row of who's been waiting in line all day, and see all these oldling hags, all happily married with kids of their own, who just adore the music... and the person who sings it ....

Things will never be the same again!!!!

If only he'd guessed what he was giving away when he sang this song in public!!!!

  12. Oh, let’s not tell anyone, it’s a secret amongst the creative artists!:naughty:

Just kidding… yes I agree I think it’s the beauty of writers and songwriters and poets.

Some of them, those who really hit a cord in other peoples feelings, has been given an ability to feel, to put themselves in an other persons situation, a kind of sensibility or possibility to empathy.:wink2: :

Ok. point taken, but since I mostly hang out in the current music space, rather than the artistic/poetic, I find it a rare commodity.

Given his background, training and family, it's not surprising that he should be 'artistic' in the truest sense, so I just remain very grateful that Mika likes 'pop' music, and I found him!

  13. Another thought while I am on a roll -

This sort of song, with strong storyline lyrics and amazing melody is strongly reminiscent of the best songs in musicals like Phantom of the Opera, and Les Miserables.

    I wonder...

Is he hearkening back to his past, or giving a glimpse of his future - or both?

  14. I've been following this thread with great interest, and have given in to the impulse to join the fun.

I love the voice Mika shows in this song. For every time I've spent listening for the words, I had another time when I absolutely ignore the words and admire his voice as an instrument.

I am grateful and thankful for the recordings of Mika at a time when he has not been madly touring, and his voice is rested, and he does not have a sore throat or a cold! Quick, let's work out a plan to keep him this healthy forever!

I will seriously make a point that I don’t especially think this is an autobiographical story at all.

It could be a story about anyone who didn’t fit in to the society in an obvious way.

Like in Billy Brown when Mika explicitly says, when he’s asked the question, this is a story of my friend Billy Brown.:

Love Sienna's interpretion. Haven't yet got enough of an opinion myself to comment, except that I like to consider that the lines -

I’m a wind-up toy in an up down world

If you leave me all alone, I’ll make a mess for sure

-might be about the lack of independence of a wind-up toy, and a grown-up person's opinion that an incompetent boy/toy is likely to stuff up most things he touches. (In the context of Sienna's song notes.)

Another thought - I love what this song (most of Mika's songs) show about him.

It does not matter whether or not they are in any way autobiographical. What matters is that he writes songs expressing an emotion/mood/feeling, and you can't do that unless you understand those emotions and that point of view.

(If they were all autobiographical, that might not be true, but I'm taking his word for Billy Brown and Holy Johnny at least. :roftl:)

What that means to me is that he is a deeply empathic person, and really does receive what other people 'tell' him, and can enter into their feelings. That skill is so rare... He's not just doing the standard 'love and lust and lost', he's seeing the wholeness of people...

  15. Hey Mouselle!! Long time no see!:naughty:

I really liked the tiny bit of Behind Blue Eyes that Mika sang. But this is NOT it. That was from The Who.

Hi Blue Sky! I missed you! Hugs!

:blush-anim-cl: Back are the days when Mika and MFC eat my life! Back to every spare moment being about Mika, and a fresh Mika soundtrack in my head. :mf_lustslow:

    So good!:roftl:

I've just edited my post, because you're right, it was Behind Blue Eyes that he covered, not Blue Eyes.

I loved it too, especially the once (that I know of) when he sang more of it than usual.

  16. Hi Sweet-Dreams, Happikali, Kelzy, Silver

Wow! You've all been busy while I was away. (Moved house - have the kids grown up an moved away too?) I was stymied trying to find us - had to do a search!

It seems very quiet in here, is everyone else out visiting the exciting new threads too?

  17. someone was saying that this song was a cover? is it true??

I have no reason to believe it's a cover. He didn't introduce it as one, and there's nothing online with similar lyrics.

There are lots of other songs out there called Blue Eyes, though, maybe that's why people thought it was a cover.

I could be wrong of course - but I'll be gutted if it turns out it is a cover. I'm in love with it. :wub2:

This song is not a cover. There was a confusion when we first knew that it was called 'Blue Eyes' as there is an older song (called Behind Blue Eyes) which Mika has covered, usually as tiny bits as part of the intro to Love Today.

  18. Hi everyone! I've missed this place, I think!

I'm in the neighbourhood, obsessively following the gig reports.

I was thinking I was dreaming- instant texts, tweets and YouTube videos within hours!

Concerts I wasn't at were never so good in the old days!

Anyway, it looks like I've moved back to home sweet home, with Happikali's verandah and lots of trees to climb, chasing a possum or two.

Big hugs to you all, and I'll race you to the glitter room!
