  1. OH Napa - how perfect! I'm jealous - love Napa Valley... perfect setting for a Rufus concert Sunday was great - of course - but unfortunately, the audience and venue left a little to be desired... there was a lot of audience chatter and disruption during the first act ... and it kind of set the tone for a slightly lackluster Lulu... by the 2nd half Rufus was back in form and gave a great show. He's been on vacation for a little while - so this one was just a warm up Lucky for me he is in the mid-atlantic to start the US leg of his tour --- so I'm seeing him a few times this week - in Philly, Connecticut and Maryland - all with Martha - so I'll let you know what the set list is like. He has been keeping it pretty much the same for the Lulu shows in the 2nd half - changing up a 1 or 2 each night... but with Martha it will be different... because she will join him for a few songs in the 2nd half of the show (most likely April Fool's... Hallelujah (you may know Rufus said a while back that he wasn't going to be doing that anymore - but Jorn convinced him to as a video of Rufus performing it had over 7 million hits on youtube ) are pretty sure bets). ttfn
  2. well... I came on here to correct myself ((and stumbled upon a Scissor Sisters thread - I think I like your taste koolj5))... About the US tour... I was - mistakenly - under the impression that Rufus wasn't doing the Lulu show (as an uninterrupted - no applause song cycle first act) in the US... but went to see him in Asbury Park and sure enough... he's doing the full Lulu CD as the first act - and the 2nd is a mix of older stuff. Just wanted to let you know... Martha didn't open last night - it was someone else.... but assuming it will be the same with her as an opening act... we'll see soon
  3. oooh -- a Scissor Sisters thread --- Love them too I'm seeing them a few times this month - so excited - nothing like Jake Shears live The new CD is amazing - play it nonstop!
  4. I'm sorry - you said that a bit back - Well that is an acceptable excuse to miss it Unfortunate timing! and yw koolj5 --- look forward to hearing how you like it
  5. Martha is fantastic - what a voice! Are you going to the Aug 15 Kansas City show (I see you are from Missouri - but know it may not be close)? Unfortunately Martha isn't opening for that show
  6. I see you are from Oakland - so guessing that's where you're seeing him? And Martha is opening - what a treat! The show in Brooklyn was a little different from the usual set list - with Loudon doing a few songs with Rufus... and Stephen Oremus was there to accompany on piano for the Judy songs - he doesn't normally do the Judy stuff. In the UK at the beginning of the tour - he was doing the full new CD as a 'song cycle' with no interruptions or applause as the first 'act' and then came back for a second full set to do his older stuff. I don't think he'll be repeating that performance in the US until December when he plays Carnegie Hall. For your shows (as well as a few that I'm seeing on the East Coast next month) - he'll probably do several from the new album (he did 4 Tuesday - The Dream, Martha, WAYNY, A Woman's Face-sonnet) as well as a lot of older stuff. And I'm sure Martha will join him for a few (April Fool's is a safe bet:biggrin2:) I think you are going to love it
  7. Saw Rufus last night with Loudon in Brooklyn - was a fabulous show... and he finished up with a Judy medley --- here's a video if you'd like to see.. the lighting resulted in not the greatest visual quality - but the audio is there
  8. wow - thanks for this cisserz nice article - although I think he misses a bit of Rufus' humor... and i love the pix
  9. koolj5 - do you have any of his CDs? If not - the one I recommend the most as an intro is Want One... I love all of his CDs of course, but think this one is the most approachable - it's more heavily orchestrated than some of his others... lots of pop-styled tunes that I'd bet you'd like Don't know where you are from - but around here - it's not the easiest to find in the record stores (I live in a smaller town America ) It's on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Want-One-Rufus-Wainwright/dp/B0000C7PSW
  10. Well - I planned a vacation to the UK in conjunction with the kickoff of his CD tour and London premier of Prima Donna... the first concert was the evening I arrived... so there were a few yawns
  11. Yes - the opera tickets for the Luminato Festival were very pricey And don't feel bad - I think Rufus' huge blinking eyes are subliminal messages to put weary audience members to sleep Had a similar jet-lagged experience my first time seeing it
  12. Do we have any Canadians here - anyone from the Toronto? Just wondering if anyone was going to the North American Premier of Prima Donna this week?
  13. Too difficult All Fab choices... and you've taken Beautiful Child I can't decide (no that's Jake) - so I'll pick from Rufus' most recent masterpiece... and while I probably would have said The Dream... I'll let Zola keep that one... and go with Martha because - as he does all the time - is so HONEST and opens up his heart for us all ... and it won me over live
  14. I think people are missing the point... I guess I can't speak for Zola or River_Fish... but only myself. As a gay man - who grew up in a time not quite as accepting as we have today (not that it's all love and acceptance today - but light years from what it was)... I know what it's like to have ugly and hateful insults thrown at you - for no good reason. It's how I grew up. As I walk down the street and someone calls me some disparaging name or makes some inaccurate accusation... how should I respond? Do I send them a private message or a postcard as not to bother the other passers by? NO. I'M sorry... Someone throws hateful and ugly disparaging remarks at you in public... you have every right - or even obligation - to respond in public. I find it hard to comprehend why this is not more obvious. No one - aside from now - Zola, River_Fish or myself - ever made a comment admonishing HollyD for posting these things ... which should be reserved for pm's ... But now - as we respond - we are being admonished - and told to say these things via a private message. I've yet to see a post advising the administer of the hateful comments to reserve such things to private messages... Does no one else see the hypocrisy in this?
  15. Excellent - I think it's great to have this thread back and harmony restored. I couldn't agree more with you Holly when you state "After all THIS thread is all about Rufus - not his fans." Glad that we are on the same page now and all of those disparaging comments about other fans on this and other threads have now been deleted! And nice video selection River_Fish * off to watch The Maker Makes *
  16. I'm sorry to disagree... but I think you have done a bit more than that. You say that "This side is a land of love, respect and peace . . ." - but have you read your comments about ALL members of the RWMB? In one post you say that you like and respect me... and in another you state "I HATE THE RWMB! I swear!!!! Those people are RUTHLESS!!!! ALL of them! They are SO fake ..." and continue with disparaging comments. Love? This isn't an isolated post - but rather, a pattern. You've misrepresented events that took place and portrayed myself and a group of people I know very well as evil villains. vathorniel just posted "And it's a completely different thing when people try to prevent other people from meeting the performer completely on purpose. Urgh, that is evil " and I don't fault him or her (I'm sorry - I don't know) for thinking that we are an evil group of people - that's how Holly has painted the picture. There was no scheme or great plan to try to "derail" you from going backstage in West Palm Beach almost 2 years ago. We were asked by Rufus' management how many people were on our bus before the show... and as we were waiting afterwards - David told us that there were a lot more than the number we had given... and directed us to stand together and have someone state when our line stopped. Period. That's what we did. This was a very generous gesture that Rufus and his management made - a few of us, myself included, had told Rufus a couple months prior about our planned trip etc... We had seen them at the hotel in Melbourne... and he appreciated that this group of people had flown in from all over - Canada, Europe and the DC area. And not just this trip - but the multiple other times he's seen us at his shows. So he wanted to do something special for the people on the bus. I'm NOT saying that this group is any better or more loyal fans than you or anyone else. But that was the group that he wanted to thank. If it weren't for this group of people - you would never have gotten to go backstage and get your kiss - on the lips And I made what I thought was a nice gesture to you in Miami - and you state "I appreciated that more then you would ever know!"... it doesn't feel that way... You have posted videos - identified people giving specific names - and gone on to make disparaging remarks about them. And by the way - said person is neither British, nor is she a member of the group that calls themselves "The Brit Pack" (not sure where the extra 't' is coming from) Peace? I apologize that this post is getting lengthy - and didn't come on to the Mika Forums expecting this... as I stated previously - I came because of the link on the RWMB - and enjoyed the nice review of the show... thought I might enjoy posting here... and then starting reading this thread. So it disgusted me a bit. You have portrayed a community of people in an inaccurate and unfair manner. Are all members of the forum angels? Of course not - there are always going to be debates... different points of view. That's actually one of the main points of a discussion forum. Learn from others... discuss intelligently. love, respect and peace?? hmmm
  17. wow - just seeing this... this message board confuses me! I just replied on the thread... I was really just kind of shocked at all the rather nasty and inaccurate statements that I was reading.

  18. Hi Holly - Hi Gang -- Ooops - first of all - Marianne84 - I apologize - my post was not intended to be a quote ... I'm obviously not used to this forum and did that in error - when I came back on and saw that I had quoted - I deleted the quote portion - I was completely not referring to you... or really Rufus related information at all! As a Rufus fan (or follower - by that I meant follow his music, his career --- etc.) - I do post on his message boards ... and someone on there posted a link to this forum with a review of the Helsinki concert (I like Mika too - I've seen him a few times - and agree that he puts on a great show ). So I came over to read and enjoy -- and then started reading this thread. I was really kind of shocked. When I said "less then accurate posts"... I was referring to multiple inaccurate - rather slanderous in some instances - statements that were being made. Not about Rufus - but other fans that I know... and events after shows where I was in attendance. And the using - without consent or giving credit - others' pictures and videos.
  19. hmmmmm... from the perspective of a Rufus follower... some interesting.. and rather unusually less then accurate posts on this Rufus thread....
