  1. That's where I get annoyed with religions. That "my house is bigger than your house" type competition just annoys me to no end. It's so petty.

That reminds me of something Stephen Fry said (I think he was quoting someone else).. "All religious wars are the history of people arguing over who's got the biggest imaginary friend." :naughty:

  2. Hello all! I hope I'm able to go see Mika in November. I'll be in year 12 by then (scary), so I hope it's not around any assignment dates or anything. But overall, November is a good time for me. :thumb_yello:

I've been really busy lately with school.. Today I got the application form for school captain but I don't know if I'll fill it in. I know I wouldn't get the position but it doesn't hurt to have a try! :naughty:

  3. Well, it's only a rumour so far.... Hubby heard on the radio that the Dixie Chicks were coming, and then there was something about Stevie Nicks and then Fleetwood Mac. He hasn't checked for confirmation on any of these yet, he just told me the rumour and I chose to spread it on here:biggrin2:

Thankyou SD, it was a great dream and so vivid. And so much fun! I haven't had fun like that in ages. I'm sure it's being a parent that does it.

I've heard about those rumours about Fleetwood Mac as well. They were in the same newspaper article that spoke about Paul McCartney coming next year. :biggrin2:

Haha, I love dreams. I have the strangest subconscious. :naughty:

  4. They changed it again??? I was the first year to have UAIs, and before that was TERs... dunno before that...

Scaling was pretty harsh when I did it... Apparently Drama was scaled down more than Music...

If it's still the same, Music will be scaled down and the maths based subjects scaled up, but as you say, you have to do spectacularly well in music...

I have faith in you! You can do it!

Would you like a cheer squad? :naughty:

Yeah. I think ATAR is pretty similar to the UAI with scaling and everything, except that it's no longer possible to get 100.. The highest possible is 99.95 now (from what I can gather).

Yeah. Mathematics and chemistry will be my highest scaling subjects. The English extensions are pretty good, but no where near as highly scalled as the maths extensions.

Haha thanks! And yes please! :naughty:

    Great dream chickadee!! :roftl::biggrin2:

  5. Haha, I only remember it was ATAR, because all the NSW uni apps I filled out were asking whether I was planning on receiving one this year. =]

My maths is finished! *Victory dance!*

    Before midnight, too! :kachinga:

    Well done!! :biggrin2:

I think I'm going to stick with the plan of dropping physics and maths extension. I'm just going to have to work really hard next year and limit my time on the internet/MFC!

    unlikely.

  6. You'll be fine. Your (I think it's ATAR now...) is based on your performance in the subjects you do compared to the other students in the state who take that particular subject, I believe, not what subjects you take. Our school advised us to take the subjects that we knew we could do well at. Even if you need physics or maths extension for what you want to do at uni, you can always do a bridging course. I do Maths A, and some of the courses I'm looking at if I don't get into IT require Maths B (which I think is the equivilant of extension maths). I've talked to our schools careers advisor, and she told me that bridging courses are designed for exactly that reason. =]

    Yes, ATAR!

I don't need them for what I want to do. I want to be a primary or high school teacher, but I still want to do well because I'm also interested in health, etc. I think I'll be doing English advanced, English extension 1 and 2, mathematics (advanced), chemistry, studies of religion 2 and music. I'm a little bit worried about music dragging me down because I've heard the scaling is really harsh unless you do spectacularly.

Also, my friend's really clever older sister did the exact same subjects as those and got a pretty horrible UAI (not enough to get into teaching). But I don't really know the specifics of her marks, so maybe she was just unmotivated.. Anyway, why am I stressing about this now?! I'm not even in year 12 yet! :naughty:

Ick! I did extension maths (although we call it Maths C here) and HATED it, and dropped out after the first semester.........was the best thing i ever did, as it was a big weight off my soulders and gave me more time to concentrate on other subjects!! But good luck with whatever you decide to do! :thumb_yello:

I actually don't mind extension maths and I'm not too bad at it (I got 87 for the first semester). But I want to drop it and physics so that I can have more time to focus on the subjects that I enjoy more.

  7. I just got back from seeing David Helfgott (the pianist the film Shine, starring Geoffery Rush, was made about). He was incredible! He's a little bit crazy, because of traumatic life and mental illness, so throughout the two-hour recital of some amazing pieces he mumbled and hummed to himself the whole time! It was so endearing! I was sitting in the front row, a couple of seats right to the centre, which was perfect because I could see his hand movements really clearly. After the final song (Flight of the Bumblebee!) my mum started the standing ovation, and absolutely everyone in the concert hall was standing, clapping and cheering. It was amazing. And then I got to shake his hand!

In other great news, my mum's friend from France is in town. And we were talking to her about music before the show started and I mentioned that Queen are my favourite band. Then she said that she saw them in the 80s and snuck in a camera and took a few photos of Freddie (she said she was in about the third row from the front). And she's going to send them to me! :biggrin2:

  8. :sneaky2: No CD for another couple of months? Who do you think you are - Mika?

But glad you enjoyed the recording session :naughty:

Haha.. If I was Mika it would be more like 24 months. And don't expect me to tour Australia until I'm good and ready! :naughty:

    Oooooh! Can't wait!

Me neither! I can't wait to hear all of the other songs as well.

  9. Recording was a lot of fun! The grand piano at the studio was amazing.. I loved it all. I think the song turned out really well, and everyone else's songs sounded great! We probably won't get the CD for another couple of months because they have to mix everything and cut it, etc.. but when I do get it, I'll let you guys have a listen! :wink2:

    *goes and collapses into bed*

  10. If I think about it really hard, I remember where you live. It's just that my instinctive reaction when I picture where you are in Aus is South Australia. One day, I will get over this reaction:roftl:

    Haha, okay!

Well, I think I'm going to go to bed. I should probably have an early night given that I'll be waking up at around 5am tomorrow. I'll log on tomorrow night when I get home to let you all know how it went in Melbourne!

    Na-night! :wub2:

  11. I honestly have no idea at the moment SD ... last time, (when he did actually play in Sydney ... I think it was under a month before the gig ... not sure tho' ... :dunno: ... but it wasn't very long ...

But I don't think any of us should worry about missing out on tix. ... it's not like UK/Euro. re: his popularity here yet ...

OH ! SD you are far too modest

Okay, thanks! I hope it's a bit sooner this time.

    That's true.

    :naughty::blush-anim-cl:

    Hi ladies!

SD, I too want to hear your recording. Just think, in 10 years time I might be able to say "Hey, I knew her when!" OK, maybe it would actually be "Hey, I chatted to her on the internet when."

Haha! I don't think you'll be saying that, but it would be nice! :naughty:

True. That is true. I keep forgetting that SD actually doesn't live that far away from me. I persist in thinking she lives in South Australia. Which is where Armande lived.... And she hasn't been here for 18 months, so you'd think I would have sorted this out in my head by now, but no. I'm still a nut:naughty:

Yep, I live on the NSW side of the NSW/Victoria border. Albury, NSW! Albury, NSW! Albury, NSW! Albury, NSW! Albury, NSW! Albury, NSW!

  12. Yes ...... I remember standing there and everyone was crying all around me , and looking with a hugeeee cheer as his voice broke and the crowd supported him:wub2:

    39 is aceeeeeeeeeeee

Wow just seen this .. here the shippp sailed outtttttttttttttttt <sings at desk>

Aww, that sounds amazing. Sadly I was only born a couple of months after the tribute concert.. I wish I could have been there, it's brilliant.

Beautiful rendition of '39. It really is an amazing song. I love all of the old live performances of it with Freddie, he seemed to have a lot of fun with it. I really love Brian's 12-string acoustic.. It's got such a rich, warm sound.

  13. Why did it take me so long to find this thread? I'm in love with Brian May! He's my favourite member of Queen (as difficult as it is for me to have favourites). One of my life goals is to meet him and tell him what an inspiration he is.. I have this whole speech planned out but if I did meet him I'd probably be completely awestruck and say something stupid like "You have curly hair.."

Some of my favourite Queen songs were written by him.. '39, Teo Torriate, We Will Rock You, Good Company, Fat Bottomed Girls, Save Me, No-one But You.. The list goes on! I also absolutely love Too Much Love Will Kill You, it's so beautiful yet heartbreaking. Brian's voice may not be as strong and powerful as Freddie's, but it has always been really beautiiful and he is capable of expressing so much emotion with it.

And there's no real need for me to mention his guitar-playing! I think everyone can agree that it is amazing. The best of all time, in my opinion!

    :wub2:

  14. Hello everyone! I'm very happy about Mika coming here in November! I'm hoping that he does under 18 shows this time. And did everyone read his twitter? He has changed the album title! I'm sort of happy about that because I prefer it when artists don't use one of the song titles as the album title.. Which I'm hoping he has now done!

Today I, along with a few people in my music class, played at the Eisteddfod. We did 'Buses and Trains' (I was on keyboard) and we came first!

And we go to Melbourne to record tomorrow! I'm very excited! :biggrin2:

  15. Okay so I only just skimmed this page but OMFG SD YOU HAVE TO GO TO THAT FESTIVAL!

Something with Numbers and British India together is the greatest thing ever. And I think you would like Tame Impala, their songs are like 15 minutes long of 98% awesome instrumentals.

SOMETHING WITH NUMBERS ARE GENIUS! JAKE GRIGG IS GENIUS!

Wait, so I didn't look back so who knows if Petra revealed my awful news, but I lost all three of my Something with Numbers tickets. They are just gone. Who knows where. Most likely my dad threw them away while packing my stuff. I went through every single belonging that I belong 8 times. I looked online and it appeared that Bunbury was not sold out, but Perth definitely was, not sure about Mandurah. So I decided, especially seeing as we already had backapckers booked and everything to just go to Bunbury, buy a new ticket and hope for the best. Bought new ticket ($30), went to show, show was freaking awesome, met band after show, talked to Jake, when Jake found out I lost my tickets he immediately tracked down tour manager and made sure he'd put me on the guestlist for the rest of the shows. With a plus one. I don't even need a plus one, Dani still has her tickets :naughty:. Anywh, must go get ready now!

    Brilliant!

Possibly not your type of music, but I like it, I mean, I like the live show, which makes me like the music because it reminds me of the live show. You can't call their performance any kind of boring. And they are heaps into doing as many under-age things like that, they really like underage shows they always say :biggrin2:

Wow, that video is really good quality! And you're right, it isn't my type of music but I can appreciate the showmanship, etc. I think I will go, even though a lot of it isn't what I would normally listen to, it will be fun! And I'm currently listening to a bit of Clare Bowditch and she's great!

Haha, today in chemistry my teacher was walking around the room and he came and picked up my folder and was looking at all the pictures and naming everyone. I was quite proud of him.. He knew almost everyone of the 60s and 70s bands and people (granted, he is the right age), but thought that the picture of Mika performing was Bob Dylan! :naughty:

  16. That should be most AWESOME!!!!!! I know Clare Bowditch; she supported Gotye once in London! And Bianca always says that BI and SWN are ****ing amazing live :cheerful_h4h:.

Regular John rings a bell... wait, Tame Impala, too. Yes, I do know Tame Impala. That must have been OD telling me about them :think2:.

SD: Out of your list, I know of & like Clare Bowditch & Tame Impala ! :groovy:

Okay! That's good to know. I had heard of British India, but I'm not familiar with any of their work.

Hello everyone ... I have tonsilitis ... damnit .... so managed to gets out of bed today ... :thumb_yello: whats happening?

I hope you feel better really soon! :thumb_yello:

  17. Bianca is one the ****ing guest list for ****ing Something with Numbers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Holy ****.

No idea if I'm allowed to tell though :lmfao:.

    Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!!!!!!

I think I may be going to see Something With Numbers at some indie festival in my town in September.. I don't really know any of their songs but I've heard (mostly from you and Bianca :naughty:) that they are really good. According to my friend, these are the bands/artists playing at it..

Cog + Clare Bowditch + British India + Something With Numbers + Tame Impala + Grafton Primary + Yacht Club DJs + Regular John + Girl in the Red Light + Vanessa Amorosi + The Beautiful Girls + Star Assassin + The Quarters + more.

    Sound good?
