    O2 ABC Glasgow

    About

O2 ABC Glasgow once housed Scotland’s first cinema in 1896 and over the years was also known as The Ice Palace, The Hippodrome and Hengler’s Circus until reverting to its cinema status in the 20th Century in various incarnations as the Regal, the MGM, Cannon and of course, the ABC until 1999.

Converted to a concert venue in June 2005 following an extensive £2m conversion by Regular Music O2 ABC Glasgow is one of Scotland’s best-loved live music and club venues.

  2. if austrian law is similar to german law, then it's allowed but you must be accompanied by a legal guardian. maybe it's ok if you find another adult to go with you and your guardian writes something that it's ok... but not sure, guess you gotta ask the venue if they allow that. :dunno:

Thanks Meloody - Ingie is trying to find out for me and i'll do that cheers - i'd like to take my kids to one gig :wink2:

  3. Oh, I keep forgetting to reply to the posts by Vicky and someone else re Joy chewing gum on stage. I also noticed, and I was appalled!!! It looked so...I don't know, I have no words to describe it. Just really sloppy and unprofessional, and just wrong. I have no idea what prompted her to do that, but I was really unimpressed.

I know that people will now slate me for it, but in general I am quite unimpressed by her in general. I really don't see what is special about this woman that the previous singers didn't have, and I don't think that it's a change in a positive direction. For example, the pianist point is a good one: David was not really a good pianist and the new guy is. But I really don't find Joy a better singer (or anything) than iMMa or even than Saranayde, and I can't see the appeal in hear AT ALL.

ahh good i thought you would have noticed Sari!!!:teehee:

I chew gum myself - i'm not a gum hater - lol - but i thought it just looked awful!:aah: for her only real spot on the night i think she should have taken it out!!!

I don't really see her great appeal either in terms of voice or presence but i don't dislike her just i think she's not worth trading iMMa for?( i am so sure she would NEVER have done that) however ------ time may prove us wrong?!

I do not know about Laura, but after having a couple of unpleasant experiences with Mika fans in the past few weeks, I'd rather not share any details about our moment with him. It was lovely and a dream and that is everything other people may know at this point, if it was up to me. I don't know if Laura wants to post about it at some point, but for now, it will just be our private moment and memory and I only like to share it with my friends who are genuinely happy for us, instead of spiteful and envious. If you understand what I am saying?:wink2:

That is why I've decided not to report on either gigs, and not sure if I will ever do so again, because sharing my joy with the forum has mostly brought me sh*t and scarred the memories.

    :huglove:

Oh, I thought I saw that at one gig (can't remember which one) and I thought I must have seen wrong, I mean she couldn't possible SING at the same time??? But probably I saw right if you and some others have noticed the same. I agree about what you said, so weird and gives such unprofessional impression.

I like Joy in Celebrate, but I've also noticed she gets much less space and attention than she did at a couple of first shows this summer and it looks and sounds good this way, imo (that she is kept more background). I really love the new band, the new sound is VERY good and for example Curtis is absolutely brilliant, but I admit that after watching a few shows this summer I miss iMMa and her voice (but I understand the point why she is not there, the new combination sounds very different, and that's what he wanted, I guess).

Yes i know------- how can she sing and chew!!!:teehee:

I could see the gum in her mouth when she was doing her ----- have fun --- bit!:aah: not good - iMMa was also such a part of the whole show and Joy is clearly now - maybe it is what Mika wants!

  4. What a great day!

The weather, company, food and drinks were perfect!:wink2:

    Mika wasn't bad either! :fisch:

It was the frist PROPER gig for me as LOVEBOX was so short and sweet.

I loved having a whole show experience!

We did our bits with hearts - thanks to all those who made them!

Lovely to meet new people as always - especially our friend form Poland Magdalena :wink2:

Mika was in great voice, spirit and humour - most has been said, HarryPotter, new band etc

I'm still warming to the new band - slowly - still miss iMMa and Cherisse and David especially:blink:

I loved my first trip to Italy and everyone was so helpful and friendly :italia:

There was a long but worthwhile wait to see Mika at the end - in fact this is part of the day - the long time spent post gig on a pavement! :aah:

    - next stop London where he told us to be on fire! :das::uk:

  5. Well here we go

Have read with interest most of the comments so far and have enjoyed doing that - it reminds me of the old days! :blush-anim-cl:

Anyway - i general really enjoyed this high energy performance from Mika!

Had spent a fabulous day soaking up the pre Olympic atmosphere in sunny London - watching the city alive and full of fun and i felt excited!

We spent much of the day nearby Whitehall in a pub for late lunch and the barman asked me was i here for The Olympic torch procession - which was going to pass by the pub about 7pm!

I said no i hadn't realised - i was here for a gig :teehee:- when he asked who and where i expected a blank but he said to me - oh well don't suck too hard on your lollipop or love will get you down!!:teehee: bravo bar man!!

    Anyway enough pre gig ramble

Once in the venue - after doors - got a drink and found a spot with Ingie and sharon to dance - with a pretty ok view - most of the time! It got busier and busier but we stood it out after the poor DJ set finally MikA!

I'll comment on the main things that i felt strongly about ......

Fabulous to have such an intimate and small venue

He was on fire - so were we with the heat - well he did ask us to be when in Milan!:fisch:

He was full of energy and very happy it seemed which always makes for a great gig.

Obviously an important one for him in UK again and so much better than LOVEBOX which was so short and he was so nervous!( but i know it was a festival which i loved for so many artists!)

He was fun and playful a lot of the time and i like his style - so glad no furry animals now - though still lollipop!!:aah:

I don't like that hat though - - i like it for a bit - like 2-4 songs but not the WHOLE gig! I want to see his hair - it makes him sweat to much too! Get it off!:mikadas:

Luke throwing his top was fabulous and he loved it too!

The new band don't do it for me i'm afraid - i especially miss iMMa and Cherisse - they were fabulous and i can't see what needed replacing:shun:

I noticed that Joy was chewing gum when she came to the front to sing Celebrate which was a real - no no:shocked:

Mika obviously values her support at this song and she sings it ok but all i could see was the gum in her mouth!!! I wanted to run up with a gum paper and tell her to spit it out! did anyone else notice?

Origin dedication was obviously an important and wonderful moment for him and yes he looked like he was looking at his man at the back - that was lovely to see him so happy and comfortable - it was important for him - that was very clear

It was fun as always seeing people and sharing the experience esp in a very hot London!

We saw the family very relaxed too and of course we went round after some time to see him come out but after Milan i didn't feel the need to speak to him this time - but he saw me and smiled which was nice.

Everyone was V excited too afterwards about the listening party the next day and had i not been away for 4 days form home i would have made an effort to change plans but i had to get home to my son who was also performing that day!

I've no regrets though of course would love to have been there.

It has been exciting to see him again and i really loved the chance to hear new material - most of which i like - but not yet LOVE - i really am looking forward to the new album and really want it to do well for him - i feel it might!

When back at our travel lodge we listened to the Radio 2 version of Origin and i didn't think it was nearly so good as it is live - but then it may not be the final version i now understand.:teehee:

    Well that's me just now

I have photos and video but not as good as others i think - will post if they are worthy later on.

  6. ciao bambola

io prendo lo standing ma non mi picchio per la prima fila :wink2:

I'm happy this time so many fans can reach the venue more easily, but I frankly cannot see the point of skipping Milan  which is the centre of Italian universe :naughty:

    No Milan :aah:

I'll need to check these venues as i now in love with :italia: and must see more places there :wink2:

  7.

I think he does still have a lot of fans but as he doesn't get much publicity in the UK most of them will be unaware that he is even performing.

Plus of course with the start of the Olympics coming up, everyone with any sense is avoiding London :naughty:

    sensible people are!!!:aah:

seemly it is according to heaven`s facebook page .... tho .... ive seen tons on fleabay for sale !

    We're going anyway!:sneaky2:

Yeah 4pm should be ok as Rose said on facebook earlier...

"Don't think there is much point in getting there early, it's the day before the Olympic opening, and if security is actually working, I don't think they'll be happy with a queue gathering down a side street." :)

Let's have fun - chill out and relax! :teehee:

I am definitely not queuing :wink2: I think it's totally pointless. Will get there around doors open or just when the gig is about to start...Personally, I'd much rather enjoy the evening, and do something nice beforehand like go for a drink in the summer weather that we're finally getting this week, than just stand there in order to leap in as soon as they open :aah:

Do we know at what time he's due to start? I'm guessing it's probably around 9?

did you say summer weather -? Can't wait!! :teehee:

  8. I've still not go to a proper report but i have to say this was one of the best festivals i have been to!

soo relaxed - beautiful day - beautiful people - amazing music and awesome fairground rides!

Echo Rose saying i was blown away by the 3 on main stage - Chaka Khan - Chic and Gracey! wow

Mika was very nervous but very sweet as always

not sure about the new band

missed iMMa and Cherisse for sure:blink:

It was too short of course but great to see him again live

He needs to get his confidence back in the UK it seems - but it wasn't 3 years as he said since he played here!!! :teehee:

    Edinburgh was 2010 Mika! :sneaky2:

looking forward to more shows as ever
