  1. They mentioned Mika & played a bit of Grace Kelly on "What a Load of Buzzcocks"... a weekly series reminiscing every year of Never Mind the Buzzcocks. (just put out a new season, guys, like c'mon this is silly haha) This week's was 2007 and they mentioned how he burst onto the scene that year... or they actually said something about grabbing "his pop career by the balls... which is how he managed to hit those high notes.":blush-anim-cl:

Haven't found a youtube link yet, but it's on the bbc iplayer here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b036w2n7/What_a_Load_of_Buzzcocks_2007/ (starting around 16 min and 50 seconds into the programme).

  2. Do you remember which songs he did?

Ah let's see... these will not be in order I can guarantee that haha:

    Grace Kelly

    Love Today

    Relax

My Interpretation (just a part of it)

    Blame It on the Girls

    Big Girl

    Billy Brown

    Elle Me Dit / Emily

    Underwater

    Celebrate

    We Are Golden

Stuck in the Middle (aka: the tap dance song --some other story I never knew)

    Blue Eyes

    Toy Boy

    Happy Ending

    Love You When I'm Drunk

    Popular Song

    Over My Shoulder

I think that's it? Feel free to correct me, anyone. No chance of an encore because of the time limit.

Thanks so much for your report. My body could not have withstood another gig but it's so hard to say goodbye to this tour. I'm glad so many got to experience it and I'm sure we'll look back on it as one of the highlights of Mika's career for years to come.

Oh yes definitely. It was such a different show from the last time he was in Boston. Much less showy and this time I really felt like he was *real* y'know? Also, finally meeting him made it quite tangible haha.

Thank you for your reports :wink2::thumb_yello:

So what´s the story about hearing Relax in public for the first time, please?

Let's see how good my memory is and see how it withstanded after being in a Mika daze for a while haha:

So he said he wrote "Relax" around the time of the London tube bombings. So he was in a weird place when he wrote the song-- that's what it's about; a message telling everyone to relax and everything. So he went to a club in the East End of London with some friends and they're waiting outside the door because the giant bouncer won't let them in. Then, from inside the club, he hears "Relax" playing. And he just thinks to himself: "f#ck. This is it." His song is good enough to get into this club but he isn't. :aah: But then he says well at least it means they paid for my song (since this was before downloading music was a big deal and this was only out in 7" at the time). So he was just mulling over the strange journey a song can take: from such a strange dark place to a club in the East End of London that he can't even get into haha.

  3. (I posted most of this on the gig thread because I didn't know this was open yet. But I'll add some more so I'm not just reposting.)

That was phenomenal! Having to wait 4 years to see him was torture but soooo worth it for tonight.

    Highlights (for me):

    - The opening DJ set was hilarious. It was a parody of club music / culture and I don't think everyone got that but it was perfect.

    - Elle Me Dit / Emily: Learning that French paid off! He sang two verses in English and two in French and I was totally not expecting that but I'm so happy it happened.

    - Ending with Over My Shoulder was totally unexpected to me.

    - Throwing the setlist out the window and taking requests from the audience was a real treat and a great way to end the tour.

    - I had never heard the story of his first time hearing "Relax" in public so that was cool.

    - And now my throat hurts but I'm still full of energy. The show ended early because the venue is a nightclub and now I don't know what to do with myself, but oh well.

There was no fence barrier between the pit and the stage, which made me farther back than I realized in the crowd. Here's what I could get:

Aaaaaand here are all my dreams coming true:

    - I saw his mum but didn't get to see his sisters. I'm not sure how long people were outside waiting after the gig, but it might have been a while -- he was having quite a family reunion backstage with relatives from Boston.

    - It was nice being at a general admission gig, but kind of the reverse of the type of show it would be suited for. The show really did feel intimate despite it selling out, but that meant there wasn't much jumping around.

    - He really played around with the formats of each song, extending the choruses and singing verses out of order (that's just a typical mika-ism I feel though haha). And he complimented us on how in tune we were haha. Brava!

    - Also Max and Curtis deserve a whole separate round of applause for their performance. He literally called Curtis over to play Blame it on the Girls (I believe) because he forgot how :naughty: haha. They did a great job of keeping up with him and having fun.

He was very tired after the show, but when I told him I was part of the MFC his face lit up and it was all just wonderful. Thank you Mika!

  5. Hello,

I am counting the days to the 13th! I haven't seen MIKA since October (NYC).

So glad he will finally be in town, but concerned about the venue. In reading the reviews, it seems they habitually kick fans out the minute the show ends, so they can set up for the evening "night club" version of the venue. I read that the bouncers are rude and aggressive.

How will we get to see him after the show? Will we need to wait outside for him?

Does anyone have a better plan? Help!

Yeah, the venue does kind of push people out right after a gig. I'm sure if you hang around near the door after Mika will greet people there (that's probably what I'll be doing). There's not really a back alley or anything near the Royale, so that's probably the best bet (unless you spot the tour bus somewhere else haha).

  6. Everything sold out so fast I hope this thread helps some people out on the NA tour!

That being said, if the box office doesn't scrape a few extra tickets on friday from would-be scalpers, I'd really appreciate if anyone had an extra ticket to Boston on 4/13 to let me know! I grabbed one for myself, but, even as an adult, my mother hates when I go to concerts alone. >.<

So to appease my mother, I'll gladly take an extra Boston ticket off anyone's hands! Thanks! :]

  7. Last night Mika made an appearance in my dream! I have no idea where we were, but I saw him and walked up to him, saying "How's your godfather? Have you spoken to him in a while?" And he said "Oh yes, he called me to tell me about you. That's quite funny!" And then I went on to talk to him about MFC, and explain to the friend with me everything about Mika and MFC even though he was standing right there. We were just sitting on on the floor somewhere talking for a while and I think I also asked him why he wasn't playing more US shows right now, but I never got an answer. Then he whipped out a copy of TOOL and we started looking at the artwork together.

Not too hyperbolic or crazy, but it was p. cool to have a nice chat with Mika in my dream. :wink2:

  8. Happy (early for me, but right on your time for you) birthday, Mika!

:mikacool: (just wanted to use that emoticon haha)

My day will be full of your music, dancing, and smiles in your honor.

Thank you thank you Mika, because that's how I wish all my best friends happy birthdays: by thanking them for being awesome and in my life; without you, I wouldn't know who I am. <3

  9. I was so pumped that I was having a Mika dream that I kinda woke up in the middle of it :roftl: #fail.

But essentially, Mika and I were in my grandmother's dining room, sitting at the table and discussing his new album and all his previous work. It was like I was interviewing him, but we were more just having a discussion about everything. It was great! The things he told me about the new album in my dream will probably not be true in real life, but it was cool just to be in the dream thinking Mika and I were close friends like that. :biggrin2:

  10. I haven't had a Mika dream in a long time, but last night I had one!

    It was strange....

I was looking at things Mika had posted online, like on his twitter, and found out that he was recording his new album at some undisclosed location, but he tweeted a picture of it. So using some crime-fighting skills, I found the place on Google Maps. Then I went there and tried to find him. He was recording his album somewhere in Washington State at an old abandoned Waffle House. I have no idea why this was happening in my dream, but that's where my subconscious decided to make Mika record his new album. :roftl: I was probably hungry before I went to bed.

Then I got to hang out there for a while, and see him from a far. DaWack was there too, and she had apparently been doing some art because large canvasses were on the floor drying. It was really neat but really weird!

  11. Well, so you know the truth now... Yes, I WAS passing by whenever i could "just to take something VERY IMPORTANT from the back", to collect rubbish (i.e. make sure Mika hasn't thrown my note away), because of too many people queueing for the toilet at the front, to answer any passenger call bell BEHIND row 5, to make sure my colleagues at the back are fine, to pick something up off the floor, to close that overhead locker............:roftl:

Hahahaha!!!! :roftl: Totally acceptable behavior :wink2:

  12. I just read this on the fyeahmika.tumblr.com website and was so happy to see that it was linked from the MFC! :biggrin2:

That does sound like the most exciting day on the job ever and I don't blame you for being over the moon and in denial haha.

Being up in the air with him for 2 hours? I would have needed the biggest resolve to not just walk by him every 30 seconds to stare at him! :naughty:

  13. I cant believe no one else has said this! Last night on my favorite show The Sing Off an a cappella group sang Grace Kelly! vid:

Mika and Ben Folds in the same show! I had a heartattack!

My sister told me about this and I just watched the video. She is like my Mika radar sometimes haha. It was...interesting :roftl: She thought they did a great job and I thought their a Capella version with the harmonies was cool. And they're from Yale! Totally weird!

  14. I've finally had another Mika dream! Yesterday I was complaining that I hadn't had one in a while so thank you, subconscious!

He wasn't really in the dream but I dreamed that he was going on tour again and coming to do two shows nearby where I live. But one was on a Thursday night so I was trying to figure out how to get there and back to university the next day. At the end a helicopter showed up. If I had a helicopter I could go to all the gigs I ever wanted! That'd be awesome :naughty:

  15. Anyone listen to Tokyo Police Club's new album CHAMP? It came out in June I believe and it's AWESOME.

oh and this is me with Dave Monks NBD:

    IMG_1770-1.jpg

They did a last-minute show in Boston last month. Sweet deal.

  16.

None of that had to do with Mika, but when my alarm went off the first thing I saw when I woke up (and was still in a semi-dreamlike state) was Mika staring at me. I have no pictures of him on my walls, I don't drool over him everyday like most people here and I rarely ever look at pictures of him, so I found it interesting. It only lasted a couple of seconds, but I saw everything his face had to show. He was calm. He had no background and I didn't see anything but his face, but what a look he was giving me! I just guess that today was gonna be a good day, because of that look from the Mika in my mind.

That sounds almost better than a dream-- he was just about invading your subconcious and was almost right there with you! Freaky but cool haha

ps: I like your signature! MCS rules :]

  17. I've finally had another Mika dream! (I thought the giant poster on my ceiling would be making him appear more, but oh well)

I went to his concert with my friends and we had front row seats! We were running around and having fun. But when Mika came on, he didn't sing any of his songs. He sang cover songs nobody's heard of. And sometimes the music would just play in the background and he would stand there and sort of move around and not even sing along.

Then during the "intermission" he came over to where we were and laid down across the seats and I freaked out but couldn't find my camera. We talked for a while and I basically yelled at him about why he wasn't playing his songs.

Then he did some more "songs" and my friends and I danced around on front of the stage.

After, we went outside to his tour bus and there was a girl standing there signing things for people. Apparently, SHE was the real Mika that everyone thought they were in love with. So we took pictures with her and she signed this picture frame I conveniently had. I was so excited to meet Mika and was totally like OOOHHHHHH I GET IT and was fine with him actually being a girl and nobody seemed to care that all the pictures and videos we see of the curly headed boy were a lie :roftl:
