WE HAVE A NEW ALBUM

I hope it means that the thread comes back to life again. :naughty:

Me too. I will post here until forever.

I was actually about to post here too because I'm having major anxiety and I need to vent, lol. I am getting my dog today and I'm super excited and nervous at the same time, we are about to leave to pick her up and I can't hardly wait!

Maybe it's not about a "real" girl at all

I thought the same thing when I first heard the song but looking closely at the lyrics now, it can just apply to anyone who is a girl or identifies as a girl.

I agree with a lot that has been said about the song. I think I relate to it in a sense because I'm quite a loud and rowdy woman, and on more that one occasion and I have been told to act more ladylike. I think you can just imagine what I've told people who give me their opinion on my personality.

That's the way I understood it as well. I think it's not unusual if you speak several languages to mix up some expressions - or maybe it is an expression in American English, which would equal "own the stage" in British English. Languages mix up that way over time - for example also in German we have some expressions in everyday language, which is in fact a German version of something you'd only say in English - so it's not an "official" expression, but people use it, and people understand it - for example "that makes sense" ("Das macht Sinn"), meanwhile it's an official expression, but it only came over the last few years, it's an expression that came from the English one. Or "not really" ("nicht wirklich"), same for that.

"Eat the stage" is definitely not an expression in American English. Definitely a translation oddity/error, because we say "own the stage" too.

  4. My immediate reaction when I listened to I Went to Hell Last Night was... This sounds like it could be a Beatles song. I was a little shocked hearing the sound from Mika, not that I don't like it. It's just so interesting. The Ooohs and Aaahs in the song are very reminiscent of the songs from I think Rubber Soul and Revolver and the beginning really made me thing of A Day in the Life. Such a different sound!

Today I was listening this song while working and I'm still thinking It should have been the first single instead of Ice Cream. It's an ideal song to be played on the radios.

Well, I think Ice Cream was the first single for a lot of reasons. Having a song called Ice Cream is fantastic for a summer release because well... the association of summer and ice cream in general. On the surface, the song is fun and simple and easy to sing along to with it also being sensual which is pretty pleasing as a single for air play with other pop music. With Mika making a comeback on the music scene after a bit, it makes sense why they picked a song that's going to appeal to more general audience and relevant to the time frame it was released in to make more of an impact. I think Dear Jealousy is a fantastic song, but it takes a little more thought to get your head around the concept of the song in my opinion. It's just not as easy of a listen lyrically as Ice Cream, and having very simple but catchy lyrics that are easy to understand is important for a song as a single for the radio. And when I say easy to understand, I mean the narrative or meaning behind the song. I think you could pick any song the Hot 100 and immediate know what it's about with one listen and that's not true for Dear Jealousy, you have to listen to it a few times to get the real meaning behind it.

It's official that there'll be a Japanese Edition with Sound Of An orchestra and It's My House as bonus tracks but I haven't seen this edition anywhere else yet: https://www.universal-music.co.jp/mika/products/uicu-1312/

It should be released one week later, on 11th October. It seems I'll probably get both versions anyway because I want the physical copy as soon as it's available. :naughty:

I pre-ordered the LP and it said it was going to ship on release day... Which is something I've never experienced before. I'm a little upset about it, because its going to take a long time to ship here too because its coming from the Netherlands... :boxed: I order a Tiny Tour sweatshirt too, and it shipped about 2 weeks ago and I still don't have it, gotta love international shipping.

Yeah, the Mika / Michael thing still is the interpretation that fits most, I think. And I had the same thought about the eggs and "hatching". The cherries, maybe - it's a possibility.

And I think about his pointing at the gig, in the video I posted - he points on himself for "one", so in the context of the likely meaning of the song & video (Mika / Michael) it'd rather mean he'd give up the love of all these people for the Tiny Love he found in himself - which is a wonderful thought, I'm very happy that he got to that point. As I said before we knew about this Michael / Mika thing, I mentioned "The greatest love of all" by Whitney Houston as a topic that could be the same in Tiny Love. Which btw I just realize is a nice contradiction, to put the "greatest" love vs "tiny" love. But if he'd give up a hundred thousand loves for just this one, it's the same principle. :teehee:

Anyway I like the cat interpretation as well, it certainly is the funniest! :lmfao:

I see what you are getting at. I think he is saying he has to be happy and love himself, as both Michael and Mika, before anything else. I think it can apply to his personal life, as well as being in the music business because I have read some interviews where he expresses complaints about how he wasn't exactly happy with how much of a formulaic cash grab the music industry is and how is affected his music. I think in his Billboard interview recently. But its truly important to genuinely love yourself to be able to have a successful relationship, even just with yourself. If you don't, its so much more difficult.

The cat interpretation can be the unofficial meaning behind Tiny Love, because we can only speculate on the deeper meaning behind it.. and we at least know that Mika's apparent cat is named Tiny.. :aah: If someone meets him on tour soon, please ask if its about his cat for me.... Thanks. :fisch:

    Wait, What?

Someone wrote on the youtube music video that Mika wrote "Tiny Love" for his cat:

"Love that he wrote this for his cat. ❤️ He is clearly playing a cat in this video. Hence his size, being on her lap when she’s trying to play piano, getting pets behind his ears, etc. As a cat lover, it jumped out to me instantly."

    :lmfao:

My cat would always jump on my and my piano when I played, so this comment is so funny to me. I love this theory.

Yes, it's the same in German. Maybe that's why he says he wants to be a duck, although he actually wants to be a goose, they're better flyers I think, and they're migratory birds - I think of the ducks it's only certain species that are migratory.

I love how it is similar slang in different languages!

I never thought of the migration patterns of ducks before, but I'm pretty sure most of them here migrate because I do not remember seeing them in the winter. Canadian geese, I would see hundreds of every year growing up when they would migrating in the spring and fall. And now, they are menaces on my university campus. They do have very cute babies though.

It's a goose on the TL cover - but they are migratory birds too, and belong to the same bird family, so I think it might not make a big difference to Mika. Wanting to be a duck sounds cuter than wanting to be a goose, and maybe the goose looked better on the cover. Anyway I agree with carafon that this is related. Though he mentioned the ducks / geese in another interview where he mixed up the words. In any case it's likely he has done these interviews before his birthday and referred to them in his live chat.

That's so odd, because I see a big difference between a goose and a duck. Duck does sound cuter, and I always think of geese as being very aggressive and mean. I don't think its that big of a difference though.

In French being a goose means being quite an idiot …….:wink2:

In America, calling someone a "silly goose" is a very lighthearted way to call them an idiot.. :lmfao:

The 12th of September Mika gave us a tracklist of the album. No "Cherry Tree"...

As stated before, it could have been Tiny Love before it was revised or maybe another song on the album is this one and it is just renamed to something different. But it could of just been cut completely. :dunno:

  13. For the first time in a bit I had an absolute blast listening to Mika (not that it isn't always fun) so I thought I would share.

I saw Marina (she used to be Marina and the Diamonds) last night in Atlanta, Georgia (about 4 hours from where I live) with a friend and I was telling her about how I saw Mika last week and she told me she used to listen to him a lot in high school so of course I had to get on her case about why she didn't listen to him now. :aah:

After the concert, even though we were tired, we absolutely blasted Grace Kelly (her choice lol) when we drove out of the parking garage and past the rest of the concert goers who were walking to their cars. Apparently we still had the energy to sing it at the top of out lungs too and literally no one appreciated it except for the amazing woman directing people out of the parking garage. :lmfao:

It's funny because this is exactly how I felt hearing the lyrics of Ice Cream, I can't even listen to it because of that :aah:  .... instead Tomorrow sounds so real and frank to me, he manage to catch perfectly that feeling that all of us know and lived, and his voice fits so well along with the lyrics :wub2:  But I also get it why it's not everyone's favorite, since we have different tastes and our reactions are biased, mostly on how a song touches us on a personal level ( I suppose :blush-anim-cl: )  I know this is my case with Good Wife and Tomorrow, and right now I can't stop listening to the last one.

I kind of feel that way about Ice Cream as well, its fun but definitely not strong lyrically. I agree about the realness that Tomorrow has, and like I said before about how its very relatable I think that's why its better song than I was expecting it to be when I really analyze it. It's definitely not the best Mika can do, so it's just a little disappointing I guess.

Well, I don't think the Mika of today is the protagonist of the song -- I think it's Mika as a teenager, or at least as a much younger person.

Well... tbh I don't think he had a vintage Benz as a Teenager... :teehee:

See, that's my point. Mika has to be talking about quite recent self here!

That is what Mika said about the song :

Tomorrow "revolves around the act of making a decision in a moment of hot passion and disturbing fear: throwing myself into a love affair that I already know is rash and dangerous, or doing nothing and playing it safe? In the end the decision is clear: who cares about tomorrow, I choose to live for love and not in command of fear. It's a song about the freedom of not being afraid of the consequences, of what others think. "

"it could be about a one-night hookup getting back together with someone that you've been with for a very long time but you swore you would never be with again. "

So, to me, it's absolutly about Andy turning back to him, their reconciliation after a split that ended a 5 years relation.

I assumed this when I heard it for the first time in Brooklyn, his description of the song was along the same lines but more scandalous and daring. I'm sure its in some videos people took and posted.

But, honestly Mika talking about the song gets me more excited than the song itself. Mentions about production I think I have to agree with, it seems a little lack-luster.

Yes, that could be it, makes sense as well.

I think it's also "If you say you'll be there tomorrow" - because I can hear he sings something before "say". Some things are hard to understand, because he's singing another melody at the same time.

I'm still not sure about how much I like the song. I'm certainly not as excited about it as I am about Tiny Love and Dear Jealousy. I like some musical arrangements in the recorded version that I hadn't noticed in the live videos. Well, maybe when I see it live the song will click with me - but someone here compared it to Good Wife, and that for me also always was and still is a nice song, but nothing special. Maybe it's the same for me with Tomorrow.

I agree with that lyric too! It Also makes more sense that way to me.

I totally get this. I actually really liked it live and the way he introduced the song really hyped it up in my mind but reading the lyrics it sounds almost... Immature? Something about a 36 year old man singing about texting and emojis just rubs me the wrong way. But at the same time, it reminds me of being a teenager (not that long ago!) and being reckless because I wanted to be loved. I think it's a very relatable song (except for having a vintage Benz, can't relate) so that's the appeal. Maybe you'll change your mind, but you don't have to like every Mika song and that's okay.

  16. I was looking on lyric genius for Tomorrow lyrics (very frustrating finding the right words he's singing, see more in thread) and here is what it says so far for Blue for credits:

Written by: Mika, Dorothy Allison, and Alex Smith

No lyrics up there yet, I think that someone is posting official lyrics when songs are being released. Maybe keep an eye out if it's bugging you like the lyrics for Tomorrow were bugging me. :aah:

I do hear the words "catching on" but I can't hear what's after that. Grrr. I'm like you, listening to it over and over, trying to figure it out.

And earlier, I think it's stereo on, not staring... but still not 100% sure.

I updated my earlier post, with a few minor changes so it matches the studio version, rather than the live versions we've heard so far.  We're very close, regardless!

Okay, it's definitely "stereo on" I hear that, and it's "leather seat catchin onto skin" according to lyric genius.

    Thank you Deb

Could the missing words be: "catching on"?

I really, really it's "catching on to this" or "catching on to something" (more likely the latter) and I honestly can't make it out better than that, it's driving me crazy. I'm just listening to that part over and over because it's bothering me too much.
