On rappelle le principe : 3 talents d’une même équipe passent sur une chanson qu’ils choisissent. Puis le coach choisit qui reste. Et si un autre coach veut récupérer un des perdants, il peut.
Je vais le dire tout de suite : l’ombre de Luca Sellier plane sur cette émission. Je n’ai pas fait le deuil de l’insolence et l’inconscience qu’il mettait à revisiter mes standards adorés. Alors à chaque fois qu’un candidat moyen se faisait sauver, je pestais intérieurement pour Luca, qui n’avait pas eu cette chance alors qu’il était tellement au-dessus. Impossible de l’oublier, lui pour qui un petit raté bien rattrapé a sonné comme un couperet. Mais le pire, sûrement, a été cette phrase de Zazie, celle qui ne l’avait pas choisi : « On attend l’inattendu dans cette émission ». Ah ? Vraiment ? Luca Sellier n’était donc pas assez inattendu ? Mais tu vas me dire « fais ton deuil, c’est bon, et passe à autre chose ». Ok. Jugeons sur l’émission du soir.
Où était l’inattendu ce soir ?
La question, je me la suis posée tout au long de l’émission. J’étais comme anesthésiée. Endormie par la longueur et l’ennui. Je n’ai même pas envie de faire la liste des candidats qui ont fait dans l’attendu. Il y en aurait trop. Et puis je les ai déjà oubliés. Mais malheureusement, l’émission se chargera de nous rappeler au moins ceux qui ont été sélectionnés. Bah oui, ce n’est pas parce que Zazie dit qu’à The Voice, c’est de l’inattendu qu’on cherche, que c’est ça qu’on sélectionne, visiblement.
Le problème vient souvent du choix des chansons, comme toujours. Je sais bien que c’est supposément les talents qui choisissent, mais j’en doute très fort. Billy qui choisirait « Envole moi » ? C’est la chanson suicide. « Je suis malade », chantée par Zine Yalla, c’est un peu la même chose. Il en fait un truc correct, mais enfin cette chanson est terrible à reprendre, et tout le monde l’associe déjà à un souvenir trop ancré pour l’en déloger (tu me crois si je te dis que moi, je garde le souvenir de Thierry Amiel, Nouvelle Star n°1, sur cette chanson ?). Liv Del Estal sera choisie grâce à Raphaël et son « 150 ans », sans prendre le temps de vraiment articuler sur une chanson magnifique. Bon, face à elle, il y avait Chloé qui chantait Vianney. Comment montrer ce qu’on vaut sur du Vianney ? Si, peut-être en en faisant un truc complètement loin de l’original, en en faisant un truc bien. Ce n’était pas le cas là. Et puis Lého avec « Laisse tomber les filles »… Difficile d’effacer France Gall en terme d’interprétation, non ? Bref, les chansons, c’était pas gagné.
Pas trop d’originalité, s’il-te-plaît
Mais le pire problème, c’est qu’on demande aux candidats, moins ouvertement, mais par la force des choses, finalement, de gommer toute leur identité. J’ai bondi de mon canapé quand Mika a dit « Le jazz n’a pas sa place dans cette émission ». Il le disait dans le sens « ça n’a jamais marché, c’est casse-gueule d’en faire, personne ne vote pour ça ». Bien sûr, il a raison. Mais quel est le message ? N’est-ce pas prévenir un peu les talents qu’il faut veiller à ne pas trop faire dans l’original, s’ils veulent avancer et gagner ?
Gulaan, qui vient de Nouvelle Calédonie et avait chanté un chant traditionnel kanak en audition à l’aveugle, passe à Cabrel. Je suis heureuse qu’il ait été gardé par Zazie, vraiment. Mais pourquoi gommer ainsi, par son choix de chanson, sa culture ? Pourquoi essayer de coller aux standards, si c’est bien l’inattendu qu’on cherche ? Et qu’on apprécie leur voix ou pas, ça a été la même chose pour Casanova, le Corse qui a chanté du Ed Sheeran. Ou Norig, qui a choisi Alanis Morissette pour montrer qu’elle était capable de faire « autre chose que du tzigane ». Mais pourquoi faudrait-il le montrer ? Qu’y a-t-il de mal à rester dans son registre, si son registre est celui qu’on a choisi ? S’il correspond à ce qu’on est ?
La même chose s’est ressentie dans le coaching scénique. Il ne faut pas trop divertir, pas trop danser, pas sauter parce que ça fait trop pop, choisir entre chanson française ou rap, ne pas hésiter, ne pas mélanger, être CLAIR. Calibrons, lissons, que surtout rien ne dépasse, de peur de faire fuir l’auditeur/téléspectateur. Mais l’auditeur est grand, l’auditeur a le droit de décider seul de ce qu’il aime. L’auditeur a le droit d’entendre et de voir d’autres propositions, aussi bancales et foirées soient-elles.
Les quelques étincelles
Ce qui ressort finalement de l’émission, c’est que les rares instants qui ont su me tenir éveillée sont ceux où les talents chantaient des chansons en accord avec leur univers, sans trop calculer. Il y a eu Gabriel et son « Raise Me Up », taillée pour lui. Je ne suis pas sensible au style de cette chanson, mais peu importe finalement, parce que le mec a envoyé ce qu’il voulait et il l’a très bien fait. Il y a eu Laura et « California Love », de 2Pac. Même chose, sa voix, c’est pas ma came, mais elle a chanté un titre qu’elle kiffait. Il y a eu Ubare sur Nat King Cole en piano voix avec Nature Boy. Bon choix de chanson, jolie interprétation. Et puis Alhan avec sa reprise de Barbara, pas assez au goût des juges, mais diablement pleine d’émotions. J’aurais presque pu aimer Ecco Ecco et son « Voyage voyage ». Mais en piano voix sur ce titre, impossible d’arriver à l’orteil de la grande Soap&Skin, qui avec Desireless détiendra à tout jamais le haut du pavé sur ce titre.
En absence de très gros frisson, on attribuera quand même la palme du meilleur candidat de l’émission à Xam Hurricane. « Le cinéma » de Claude Nougaro. C’est à lui qu’on a dit qu’il ne fallait pas qu’il saute au-dessus de la caméra pendant sa prestation. C’est un auteur qu’il chante, pas un chanteur pop, qu’il a dit, Pascal le coach. C’est drôle, parce qu’on l’a quand même affublé d’un habit 100% paillettes. Logique, quand tu nous tiens… Mais les fringues, on s’en fout un peu quand on a un Xam en face. Un mec habité. Un mec qui VIT la chanson. Un mec qui possède la scène, l’espace. Un mec qui ne te prend pas par la main pour te faire comprendre sa chanson mais qui te la balance comme il la ressent et tant pis si tu n’aimes pas. Un artiste, en fait. Et putain ça fait du bien d’en voir dans cette émission.Translation:

I don't even want to make the list of candidates who have made in the expected. There would be too many. And then I already forgot them. But unfortunately, the show will remind us at least those who have been selected. Well, yes, just because Zazie says that at The Voice, it's the unexpected that we're looking for, that's not what we're selecting, obviously.
The problem often comes from the choice of songs, as always. I know it's supposedly the talents who choose, but I doubt it very much. Billy who would choose "Fly Me"? It's the suicide song." I'm sick", sung by Zine Yalla, is a bit the same thing. He makes a correct thing of it, but finally this song is terrible to cover, and everyone already associates it with a memory too anchored to dislodge it (you believe me if I tell you that I keep the memory of Thierry Amiel, New Star n°1, on this song?). Liv Del Estal will be chosen thanks to Raphaël and his "150 years", without taking the time to really articulate on a magnificent song. Well, in front of her, there was Chloe singing Vianney. Not too original, please.But the worst problem is that candidates are asked, less openly, but by force of circumstance, to erase their entire identity. I jumped off my couch when Mika said, "Jazz has no place on this show. He said it in the sense that "it's never worked, it's a pain in the ass to do it, nobody votes for it". Of course he's right. But what is the message? Isn't it to prevent a bit the talents that we must be careful not to do too much in the original, if they want to advance and win?
Gulaan, who comes from New Caledonia and had sung a traditional kanak song in a blind audition, goes to Cabrel. I'm glad he was kept by Zazie, really. But why erase so, by his choice of song, his culture? Why try to stick to standards, if it's the unexpected we're looking for? And whether we like their voices or not, it was the same for Casanova, the Corsican who sang Ed Sheeran. Or Norig, who chose Alanis Morissette to show that she could do "something other than gypsy". But why should we show it? What's wrong with staying in your register, if your register is the one you chose? If it matches who we are?
The same thing was felt in the stage coaching. You shouldn't have too much fun, not too much dancing, not jumping because it sounds too pop, choosing between French song or rap, not hesitating, not mixing, being CLEAR. Let's calibrate, let's smooth, let's not let anything stick out, for fear of making the listener/viewer flee. But the listener is great, the listener has the right to decide alone what he likes. The listener has the right to hear and see other proposals, however wobbly and screwed up they may be.
The few sparksWhat finally emerges from the show is that the rare moments that kept me awake are those when the talents sang songs in accordance with their universe, without calculating too much. There was Gabriel and his "Raise Me Up", made for him. I'm not sensitive to the style of this song, but it doesn't really matter, because the guy sent what he wanted and he did it very well. There was Laura and "California Love" from 2Pac. Same thing, her voice isn't my s**t, but she sang a song she liked. There was Ubare on Nat King Cole in piano voice with Nature Boy. Good choice of song, nice performance. And then Alhan with her cover of Barbara, not enough to the taste of the judges, but devilishly full of emotions. "The Voice" continue sa sélection avec une nouvelle soirée d’auditions finales et de découvertes musicales.
The Voice poursuit son élagage de candidats avec les terribles auditions finales. On vous rappelle le principe un peu cruel : trois candidats choisis par un des coachs au préalable se font face. Leur mentor ne doit en choisir qu’un. Mais un des trois autres coachs peut décider d’en sauver un. C’est parti !
La soirée commence avec l’équipe de Pascal Obispo. Ecco, chanteuse de 16 ans, reprend Voyage, voyage de Desireless. Yvette veut convaincre avec la chanson Le coup de soleil de Richard Cocciante. Quant à Billy Boguard, c’est sur Envole-moi de Jean-Jacques Goldman qu’il tente sa chance. Trois choix pas simples. L’interprète de Lucie décide tout de même de garder Ecco. Zazie ne se veut pas se priver d’un « bonbon » et sauve Yvette.
Trois candidats du coach Florent Pagny se présentent ensuite. Gabriel tente une reprise de You Raise Me Up de Josh Groban, Abel Marta de Tu Vuo Fa l'Americano de Renato Carosone, et Abdel de Si t'étais là de Louane. « On est dans du haut niveau. » se réjouit Zazie. Un seul choix possible pourtant pour Florent qui salue la prestation de Gabriel. Surprise : les trois autres coachs buzzent pour récupérer Abel Marta qui décide de rejoindre Pascal Obispo.
La première équipe de Mika se présente enfin. L’excentrique Ubaré se jette dans le bain en reprenant Nature Boy, le standard de Nat King Cole. Laura reste dans le rap avec California Love de Tupac et Dr. Dre. Drea Dury, elle, choisit Senorita de Justin Timberlake. Mika est confus par la prestation d’Ubaré. « Ubaré, le jazz n'a pas de place dans cette compétition. Pour toi, tu as réussi à faire une performance émouvante. J'avais une idée, et elle a été démontée. » Mika continuera donc avec la chanteuse coréenne de 29 ans.
Zazie nous présente à son tour une première salve de candidats. Norig reprend Uninvited d'Alanis Morissette, Casanova Perfect d'Ed Sheeran et Gulaan Tout le monde y pense de Francis Cabrel. L’interprète de J’envoie valser est un peu perdue devant les trois prestations de hautes volées auxquelles elle vient d’assister. Elle fait néanmoins le choix de garder Gulaan. Surprise générale : Florent Pagny sauve Norig alors que Mika fait de même avec Casanova ! « Ce n’est pas fini pour toi ! » lui lance-t-il.
Retour des protégés de Pascal Obispo. Zine Yaala se lance sur Je suis malade de Serge Lama. Eric Jetner se défend avec le titre de Sam Smith, Writing's On the Wall. Quant à Xam Hurricane, 23 ans, c’est à Claude Nougaro qu’il rend hommage avec son titre Le cinéma. Obispo est impressionné par les prestations. "Trois intensités différentes. C'était top niveau.". Il ne doit pourtant en rester qu’un et ce sera Xam.
