  1. I'm 4361....

I had been member of other forums also, but there people used to post once every two days or something, so I visisted those forums every week or something and that was enough to stay informed.

    this forum....

I never saw anything like this before!

People keep on coming, new posts pop up every 2 sec

YOU ARE ALL CRAZY I TELL YOU, CRAZY!!:biggrin2:

  2. Yes everyone has their own perceptions. I'm usually pretty clear on why I think the things I do but I am struggling with exactly why and how my perception of Mika changed the way it did.

It's natural that when you get to know someone (yeah I still don't know Mika, but you know what I mean), that your perception changes. But I find it strange that even in retrospect I don't find vintage Mika appealing in the way I see him now.

Of course I don't expect to look at 7 year old pics of Mika and think he's hot...but this was only a few months ago.

Oh good lord please no:blink: :boxed:

anyway:biggrin2:, I understand your point, can't answer it, unless he's on steroids or something

ok, I'm talking rubbish, time to sleep!

  3. I don't think what's going on with him is strictly aesthetics. I think it has a lot to do with his manner and confidence levels. I think he's also changing physiologically from a boy to a man and that's not something that can be reversed or hidden behind makeup and hair even if he dropped some weight off again.

I've put it too extreme, I realised. Physiological changes can't be reversed (so it is indeed not as simple as putting the lipstick on again), I agree, and as I said before, I think that's his main change.

I only tried to say that clothes and a new haircut can obviously do a lot. (he also removed the ear-piercing and when he wears glasses he looks less "manly")

doesn't matter actually:wink2: . I don't think there's any right or wrong in this discussion, it's just stuff to think about and find the right words for it (feminine/androgynous/SitM/...)

Oh, about his bodylanguage: you are very right about that!! (And do I love it also:mf_lustslow: )

  4. I follow that view of the hips as well!

    me too

I think that if he'd put on lipstick again, use eyeliner and let his hair grow again, he'd be all feminine again.

no, wait, that's too extreme maybe... he still had the muscles now that he didn't have before.

I agree about the classic beauty tough! It has something to do with symmetry in your face and I think he has that.

  5.

I don't think that he's lost it. I think that he started off as 'effeminate' and by increasing his degree of masculinity he's become 'androgynous'. In terms of appearance, he's still very much stuck in the middle. :wink2:

Yeah, you're maybe right about that... Maybe I just used the wrong words. I'm learning new words every day, one day I'll be able to express myself clearly. He is indeed very SitM, and I don't think he will ever loose that

Interesting point. It's possible. But I still see him externally as a stubborn little boy, internally a clever man who definitely knows how to play people and pretends to to know less than he really does, but is essentially still a boy and in his dealings with people still has some growing up to do. Am I even making any sense?

Ofcourse! I'm not saying that he's all mature and adult, but you have to admit that some of the little boy in him has disappeared. But hey, I think everyone looks a bit insecure the first time they put a camera under your nose. When it's the 2000th camera, you're probably not so shy anymore.

I hope he will grow up (because a 40-year old talking about spending €2000 in a toy-shop is something completely different than a sweet 24-year old) but he definitly knows how to play people: he's given some of the most clever answers to some very tricky questions he's had.

Now who would have thought that there would be thought-provoking discussion in the Mikagasmic Pics thread? :naughty:

    [/color]

but please keep the pictures coming!:naughty:

  6. if he buys 3 of everything normally - How many pairs of pants did he buy when he was gaining weight?? :naughty:

I'd love to have been in the room when he realised those red skinny pants didn't fit anymore.. :fisch:

Ooooooh, I can soooo see that!

*tries to put on the trousers, tries to close the button, closes it........ sees how button pops off en flies out of the window* :naughty: :naughty:

  7. Yeah Jack and I have had discussions about this because it was his androgynous quality that she found so appealing in the beginning and I did not. Now I like his more dominant masculinity and she doesn't.

I just can't understand how there was such a dramatic change within a few months or really a few weeks. He was still wearing skinny jeans and white shirts in March. His hair was still fairly long and he was very thin. But he just didn't look the same.

And then there was another dramatic change in late spring when he started gaining weight and wearing different clothes.

From June on he's pretty much looked the same to me. He's gained more weight and changes his clothes and his hair, but he still looks the same. I don't know if that's my own warped perception or it's what the world sees as well.

No, it's not only your perception, I'm quite convinced about that. I certainly cannot answer the "why?-question". I can also only conclude that these changes have happened.

It could be a natural change, you know. He has not only gained some weight, he also developped muscles (that make us al drool during his shows:wink2: ).

The thing you say you can't put your finger on is -I think- just that transition from boy to man. I still find it strange that that transition took place in only 1 year, but it could be...

And don't be wrong on the skinny trousers: he also wore them this summer on all the festivals, I remember the purple one, the bright green one, the blue one,... only the red one disappeared quite quick, but that's just because they don't fit anymore I'm afraid:naughty:

  8. The weight gain I have noticed. It started to become obvious around June and that's when I started to think...hmmm...Mika's actually looking kinda hot. I was slow to catch on but now I think he's insanely beautiful.

I expected my current perception of him would then colour my view of him from back before I noticed he was insanely beautiful. And it does, to a point. Back in March...when he was still way too skinny for my tastes.

But whenever I see photos and videos taken prior to March I think...now I remember why I didn't fancy him at the time.

Something is just missing. And it's not simply aesthetics. I love that early black and white photo shoot where his hair is wild and he's wearing eyeliner. He looks fantastic. He just doesn't look like my little Meekers, you know?

I think it's the feminine look that he lost.

There was something very androgynous about the first pics we got to see, and eg the Jools Holland-performance.

The poses, the shy-look,... it had something feminine. And speaking only for myself, I'm not attracted to that kind of guys. I find them pretty (and I always found Mika pretty).

There was a thread about the some time ago... I think Jack started it...

  9. Listen to it again. He actually illustrates how his name morphed from Michael to Mica because his mother didn't want to call him Michael. And she doesn't call him that, but it's still his legal name. That's why his nickname is derived from Michael and he's not called Bob or Liam.

Please, don't make me get out copies of his birth certificate and passport! :sneaky2:

    :wink2:

I was looking at my top iTunes songs and the a capella version of Relax is number 1 with 70 plays or something crazy. I absolutely love it.

The soundcheck on the DVD starts at 5:55 and it goes back and forth between that and his session at the piano.

I actually guessed it was somewhere there, but I didn't want to guess without verifying...

damned, I even know the scenes without having the DVD with me... now what does that tell you about me:blink:

  10. Oh! Oh! I know what you're talking about. I think you could be right. :thumb_yello:

"But she goes and falls in love and throws it all away..."

This if my favourite bit on the DVD because he is doing a soundcheck with Love Today and does a really muted, controlled version of the intro. I love when he goes out on stage and gives it full throttle, but I also wish he would exercise some of this control more often because it's really powerful in its own way.

YES!!! That's the one I was talking about!

That whole part is beautiful indeed. And the power that comes with the controlled voice is un-be-lievable...

So I hope hope hope that maybe it could be a song for the next cd. There's something about the chords he uses there that gives me chills everywhere.

  11. Not sure. Where exactly did he sing this?

I don't remember it on the minute :wink2:

but I know it's somewhere in the beginning of the documentary. I think when he talks about the feeling he get in his back when he's writing songs or something...

I left the DVD at uni so I can't check it. I just remember that I heard him sing like 3 lines or something and that I thought: now THIS song I need to hear on a cd!

  12. Michael Holbrook Penniman is the name he has used to register as songwriter and composer for all of his songs. There is no reason to believe that this isn't his real name.

    http://repertoire.bmi.com/writer.asp?page=1&blnWriter=True&blnPublisher=True&blnArtist=True&fromrow=1&torow=25&affiliation=BMI&cae=477236431&keyID=976175&keyname=PENNIMAN%20MICHAEL%20HOLBROOK&querytype=WriterID

Like Mika does on many subjects, he makes very ambiguous statements about his name, but if you go back over what he actually said, he never once stated that Mica is his legal name. Just because his mother wasn't crazy about the junior thing and calls him Mica, doesn't mean that his father didn't get his wish and name him Michael Holbrook on his birth certificate.

Could it be that the title "gave it all away" is a song that he played a little piece of in his DVD? You know, in the documentary at the piano.

Does someone know which one I'm talking about?

and I like the title "look don't touch" :naughty:

  13. I don't think she's hiding anything. She's never made any secret of the fact that she's Italian and was raised Catholic.

Dropping Ciccone is no different than Mika dropping Penniman. I'm sure 95% of people who know of Mika have no idea what his last name is. It's only a matter for us obsessive and pedantic fans.

Speaking of which, he is Michael Holbrook Penniman as that's how he's credited in various places.

hmmm, you might be right there :boxed:

  14. I'm actually worried that I won't like it as much on the CD. Generally I don't like his overuse of falsetto and it took me a long time to warm up to Love Today which happened for many reasons that have little to do with the track as it was produced on LICM.

I think part of the reason I love HMDYLM so much is because the first time I heard it MFC had been coming off the bitterness of summer cancellations and the boredom of his 2 month break. By some amazing stroke of luck we were able to see an almost perfect video of his first performance and he looked happy and healthy. The excitement of his new tour, hearing new material and that brilliant smile were exhilarating and I can't help associating it with the music.

I hope it retains that magic when he records it.

you've got a good point there
