Yes the specifics of Mika's purchases are no one's business. But when someone is asking you to buy their product and to understand their non artistic choices and believe that they are doing it for their music/art...I think it is relevant. As I said you don't need millions to make an album, but you do need them to buy houses all over the world.

Mika deserves everything he has and more. There is no question about that. I just don't think it is right to spin all of this as a devotion to music when there are surely other factors playing into these decisions. Every year it's more houses and less music so it's just not credible anymore. I think I would have been more understanding of all of this a long time ago if I felt there wasn't a manipulation in his messaging about what he's doing and why.

The bolded parts basically summarize what i think on this topic...I think yes, the side projects help fund his musical endeavors in some ways sure but also it seems to me he's doing them because he LIKES them. why is it so hard for him to just come out and say that without all the confuscation and justifying?

i mean we as fans don't have to like it and we can moan about it and disect it but at the end of the day he WILL do whatever he wants...so why not just say yea 'i do these things because i like to, i like designing, i like being a judge'...we can appreciate honesty and it's obvious the music takes a back seat during those times - we're not blind :aah:

i guess the bottom line of what i'm trying to say is that i don't think (insert emphasis on *my opinion* :aah:) he's so much prostituting himself (entirely) for his music but merely finding s**t that pays and he likes doing, and that's ok..he should own his actions :dunno:

It seems to me that Mika is far happier with this life of doing this and that and has no interest in devoting a couple of years to a music project anymore. I think he just has to walk a fine line here and keep his toe in the (music) water because no one would have asked him to design a watch or star on a TV show if he wasn't a famous musician. I think that's why he keeps a presence in the US as well even though he is not serious about pursuing a pop career there. He probably wants to sell songs to TV, movies, etc. and has more vsibility than other songwriters because he is a pop star.

Anyway we'll see but I am not waiting for a miracle.

All of this sadly rings true to me.... I will be ecstatic to be proven wrong though, and sooner rather than later..:teehee:

  3. I suppose that will be overcrowded :sneaky2:

I better ask to some italian fan to help me to get the difference between debit cars and credit card, I'm so not good when it comes to that. I've always distrusted credit cards, they cost, they allow you to spend money you don't have, and they can be cloned .. I once read Mika doesn't like them as well :aah:

But if I'll have to, I'll do it.

I agree with Christine - you'll need either a credit or a credit 'debit' card for buying stuff since many sites don't have a paypal option

Oh there's 2 other things mika made me do: get a credit debit card and apply for a U S visa :aah: things I had meant to do for years but never got aroun to until I became a fan and realized I would need both to go to gigs!

I hate credit cards too - I've seen them destroy many people with debt and sometimes the lure to spend $ you don't have is too great.. Most places now offer you a card that functions like a credit card but is actually a debit card - in that you can't spend more than is actually physically in the account and there are no late fees (tho they charge a small processing fee a few times a year). I use the visa debit which is called the visa electronic in the uk I think?

All of the gigs I went to were general admission with no assigned seating.. Which I love cos then you get to get front row based on q-ing on the day of the concert:aah: and tix sell FAST for some places! Ahhh... The excitement, nerve wracking-ness an anticipation of waiting on gig tix to go online and then scoring some! Enough excitement to last you the whole day lol

  4. Because I'm a wuss and I'm scared to travel on my own.

When it comes to travel around Italy, I can jump on my car and go, but abroad I'm scared. Never did it, I don't know how to do it.

Today I watched some minutes about Parc au Princes and got high, I don't how to deal with my wish to go and my fear.

I understand your fear but you have nothing to be scared of trust me (we also have a saying here that once you speak English you can't get lost and your English is quite good so u will be good for gigs to English speaking countries too :aah:)

I say this because the very first time I TRULY travelled on my own it was to my first mika gig...:wub2: I had taken a plane alone before sure but I always knew the person I was going to stay by, had someone pick me up from airport etc... But last year august I took a trip to Montreal that lasted a total of roughly 36 hours just to see my first mika gig; and I knew no one there (though ofc I has been in contact with MFCers but no one I had physically met before), booked a hotel room for myself, found my way around the city and didn't really speak the language (though to be fair thank gracious many locals will speak with you in English :aah:)

It was the most exhilarating trip I had ever taken up until then and once we had the little pre-gig dinner with other MFCers everyone was sooooo welcoming!

I don't think you should ever be scared going to a gig in a city with other MFCers (well at least not in Northamerica! :aah:) we really do take care of our own...:wub2:

  5. Morgan was implying that Mika's music is a music for children, I suppose he was a bit pinched by Mika's comment on Andrea, so he threw him this mean joke....

    But Mika replied sharply.

Or did I write something in a bad english so you don't get it because of my mistakes?

Ah ok! Yea sry I think a but was list in translation there but I get what u mean :thumb_yello:

  6. I got my limited edition one today!!!! I called all over the states and made a friend at the Pentagon/VA/DC Swatch store and he got one for me, called me immediately and it should be on it's way to me now!!!!!

Swatch US told me yesterday that they are sold out (the 50 extra coming to states) and are already pre-sold. If someone cancels, you might be able to get one.

I am so frigging happy!! I now will have both of them!!!

Oh wow! U are super lucky because I've been hounding the union station store in DC (along with others on the east coast) and to no avail - all the sales people and their managers are just clueless

You must have some special power :teehee:

  7. For me, it wasn't his pretty face. It was his kindness, his personality, his mind. His way of speaking the truth without hurting people. His cleverness, his ironiy and subtlety. His way of moving, his looks, his glances. And a lot more, which I can't describe by words.

I never watched X factor. I just happend to run into it one day, he was speaking and he captured me. Now I'm trying to catch up with everything, most of all watching videos about him, since I'm interestedin him as a man. Just found out about the Vlog, can't you imagine how my evening is going to be? I barely sleep....

I mean to go to gigs, writing on here, meet you guys. When it comes to travel around the world ... I'd like to, but it's all about money, so I hope I could do it one day or another.

I don't mean to let it go, I'm really into this, I'm making friends here on mfc and feel so happy. :wub2:

Awww I remember those days when I just discovered mika and felt exactly as you did :wub2: a belated welcome to MFC and I hope to see you at a gig someday! :thumb_yello:

  8. I was having this conversation in another thread about "different tastes" but honestly if anyone thinks the recorded version is on par with Mika's they either do not speak English at all or they need their hearing checked. :aah: Chiara's accent makes her sound like she has a speech impediment that is caused by deafness. I have been saying this for months which is why I could never understand Mika's raving about her and how Italian X Factor is better than the others, in part, because of her If Leona Lewis is a 10 then Chiara is a 4 or 5 when it comes to being a great pop vocalist. If Mika can't see (or rather hear) that I don't know how competent a judge he can be. I know he is looking for uniqueness and all of that but I don't think Chiara has the "x factor" at all which is the whole point of the show. There is nothing remarkable or unique or starlike about her and she is not competent to sing English songs so she has no chance outside of Italy.

The duet on the show was lovely because they have a genuine affection for one another but this recording is awful. In any case it seems like a gimmick to make this song about one person who is lonely and regretful looking back on a lost love into a duet. If you're going to do a duet Underwater would have made more sense because it sounds like the love is mutual and not one sided. This is why I can't stand all this pandering to local markets. There is no integrity in it. The song should be the priority and not trying to sell records at all costs. This song doesn't have the same meaning as a duet. It doesn't make sense.

Well chiara's horrible accent an mangling of English words (from their first performance together in x actor last year) was the reason I didn't want to listen to this song in the first place but then I got curious so I went to iTunes italia and WOW. To me it's a vast improvement on the first performance and it gave me goosebumps . Really all 3 times I re listened :wub2:

Her accent is still there but the words are correct this time and though I don't like her voice the operatic quality is fitting in this song... I think the clincher for me was the musical arrangement - it was just superb and the way their voices blend with it is powerful :wub2:

Needless to say I love the darn iTunes songbook version :aah: the live recording on xfactor they did the second time is pretty good too but not as clear as the studio version...

  9. I don't even know what that is. Was it released in 2006?

I saw a Dodgy Holiday EP once because an MFCer brought it to Seattle to get signed afterwards when Mika came to sit with us. Mika was high on painkillers and signed the plastic sleeve she used to protect it instead of the CD :freak: He was impressed that she had it though. I never see them for sale and can't imagine what they ce.

    I know.....I like Mika's watch,but not that much :blush-anim-cl:

    What's that?

    It's this

    http://www.mikafanclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1009152&postcount=10

I'm sure u both knew that but forgot :aah:

  10.

The songs for sorrow books are a strange beast - I've seen them for prices like these BUT they can also be bought for hella cheap occasionally - I got one for my birthday this year that cost abt 5 pounds on eBay :aah:

The only thing I've never seen for cheaper than 30$ is the relax USB..

  11. yes, i'm all for that! :naughty: we've all gone through this pain of the last 10 days, and it's ridiculous that after #3 you only get a stupid mousepad & shirt! for the last net hunt the top 10 got the watch and up to #100 they got a shirt!

True! C'mon swatch stop being cheapskates :naughty:

  12. I hope they send me the watch anyway. As a surprise lol

I really can't believe they are not giving a watch to the top 10. Lame.

I think top 2 and 3 shld get the limited edition and the rest of the top 10 should get the regular one! I mean it's not that expensive and it will cost less to post than the stupid kit :aah:

  13. Wow congratulations guys! This is fantastic!

Nas now I understand why you were so frustrated at losing even a few minutes. The scores are so close in the end!! :aah:

Yup! We missed by 11 points and only 20 separate number 2 frm 4 :aah:

  14. CONGRATS to the 'origin of love' team!! :thumb_yello::hi5:

And congrats to all the other MFC-ers in the top 10!! (Including my team!)

It sucks we didn't get a watch and came sooo close but considering the huge disadvantage we started on after the first puzzle (rank 46 :aah:) we did really well making up the slack.. Also yesterday's puzzle was a real kicker so I feel confident we tried our best :wub2:

Thanks to my teammates for being such good sports and to you guys who were so helpful :huglove: MFC rocks!

Now ... Abt this silly hunt kit... I don't wear tee shirts (unless they have mika on them and even then I tend to mutilate them :aah:) and I don't use a mouse on my net book so really I have abs no use for this prize :aah: I'll still let them post it anyway and I hope it costs a fortune in postage :naughty: jk jk...

  15. Thank you for the mention Nina! :)

I have to agree with you, speaking from my personal experience: I have been for quite a while a so called 'silent' fan, meaning that I was as interested and into Mika and his music as I am now, but I wasn't part of the MFC, I was just reading it as a guest, and I also didn't follow the conversations on Facebook or Twitter, that I didn't even have.

This because by nature I tend to be afraid of 'social communities', because, as far as I am concerned, it is basically a virtual communication, and I was afraid I would feel out of place and I wouldn't be able to express my ideas. But after reading a lot of threads in the MFC I eventually decided to take a risk and join it, because I was honestly surprised by the general atmosphere, a light and funny, of course, but also-when needed- deep and thoughtful atmosphere and perspective on things. And I honestly am very glad I joined it. Even if I didn't always agree, or even strongly disagreed, for example with Christine, I always felt like I wasn't wasting my time, that I was expressing my ideas in a thoughtful way and confronting them with other thoughtful points of view, even if different from mine; so I considered it a positive thing that I enjoyed doing.

On the other hand, I never commented a Facebook post on Mika's page, for the reasons you all explained: the comments are generally superficial and rather stupid, and answering them feels to me like a waste of time. I am not judging them, I'm just saying that personally I feel more comfortable maybe arguing with intelligence on the MFC rather than write inarticulate comments about how hot Mika is.

Having said that, I think that it's everyone's choice to be the fan they want to be. I no longer get irritated at stupid twitter or fb comments, because basically I don't care about them, and I don't like generalizing a 'fandom': I think a 'fandom', whatever it is, is made of different people. And let's not forget that the bigger the fandom, the bigger the percentual of hysterical fans.

We are experiencing this with the massive increase of popularity Mika's getting in Italy: out of 10 people who discover him, 9 will just stop at his cute smile and his willywilly laughing, and only one will become really interested in him and his music. In the same way, if for example this duet with Ariana made him really really big in the USA, the same thing would happen, because it is strictly linked to popularity. There would certainly be new fans who would appreciate him as we do but also a lot of other people, especially very young girls, who would become 'hysterical' fans, as you call them. You can see that on twitter, it is already happening.

That's sad, but very natural imo, and it certainly has nothing to do with the artist himself. I mean, I am a huge Queen fan, but if on one hand some Queen fans are honestly some of the most intelligent people I've ever met, if you go on Facebook you will find thousands of 'people' considering them great fans (they probably only know We Are The Champions...), who for example insult other artists, or don't want to accept Freddie's homosexuality (I mean, really...) or even wish other young artists were dead. I am saddened by these people, but I don't care anymore. Being a Queen fan doesn't mean I share these stupid ideas, it just means that I love Queen and their music. And the fact that there are some stupid Queen fans doesn't make Queen or their 'intelligent' fans less in my eyes.

In the same way, I am sorry that hysterical Mika fans are increasing, but I try to see the bright side and be happy that that one person out of 10 is discovering what a great person and artist he is, because that one person will probably stick around, while the other 9, who are now calling Mika their 'idol' or stuff like that, will forget him as soon as they find another one.

But that's how it works and has always worked, and all in all, considering other 'fandoms', Mika should be happy because he has found a good balance imo, he manages to be pretty 'popular' and yet to have his 'real' fans who maybe don't always agree with his choices but, maybe through not always agreeing, prove themselves as clever people and fans who really and deeply care about him and his music.

Thanks for reading, as usual I've written too much, but I wanted to share my experience and perspective with you all! :)

I agree with all of this and also try to ignore the noise about the 'fandom'.. You pretty much summed up exactly the nature of the phenomenon :thumb_yello:
