    Mika in the Tempodrom

Colorful pop and really big gestures

Mika, the king of clever and self-determined glam pop.

Even if Michael Holbrook Penniman Jr., better known as Mika, couldn't quite live up to the high expectations he set in 2007 with his magnificent debut album "Life in Cartoon Motion"...

I really had to laugh, comparing this to press reactions from other countries. Typical German euphoria, being like „Yeah well, Grace Kelly was good, but he‘s not the next Freddie Mercury. Anyhow, the show might be nice, so, maybe give him a chance?“ :lol3:

A very good example of maxed out German ecstasy :wink2:

He can invite us to eat the cake 😁 I‘m really curious about how it tastes like 😁

Then I‘ll definitely want a photo proof! :lol3:

I‘d even appreciate a heads-up in case he reacts via Instagram or whatever, as I still successfully manage to keep away from these platforms :wink2:

  3. Hey there,

does anybody by chance know a place where I could get Mika-related postcards (besides from having them printed individually)? I am doing postcrossing regularly, and there are actually lots of people who tell me that they also love Mika when they read it in my profile. So I thought it would be nice to have some appropriate postcards in my repertoire :)

I understand that there have been postcards in Mika‘s merch store, but there isn‘t anything anymore … If someone has got a good idea where I could find some, that‘d be really great!

  4. Finally back home, and as speaking is not an option today, I thought I might also sit down at the PC and share some impressions with you that one doesn't get from Instagram or press releases.

First of all: Sorry, but no videos from my side. My smarter-than-me smartphone actually made some great ones - but it also somehow managed to mainly record my terrible singing and ignored the sound of the arena. This is a big achievement, obviously, as I have not even been able to hear myself. Anyhow, as I don't want to disturb you with terrible noises, I'll keep these videos for myself :wink2:

I could find many adjectives for this gig that sound somewhat appropriate, but I don't seem to find just the right ones. I am actually a bit lost for words on how good the concert really was. Mika has been such an incredible powerhouse! He interacted with his audience incredibly well, especially with his "enfants terribles", as he called them, in front of the stage. We had seats on the upper part of the ranks, but still with a very good view. And I was honestly surprised about the diversity in the audience. I sat next to a very quiet guy, probably 70 or 75 years old, but once the show began, he exploded and hit every single note as if his life depended on it. We had lots of fun singing together, even though we couldn't speak to each other, with him only speaking french. Around us, there have been families with children, older couples, younger couples, groups of friends ... It has really been like a huge family event with such an incredibly happy and peaceful atmosphere.

In general, the crowd simply went crazy whenever Mika did - well, basically anything. It was during "Big Girl" when he suddenly popped up in the upper ranks, and the cheers were simply enourmous. He then had to interrupt the intro to "Sweetie Banana" and restart after a minute because he was completely out of breath, having somehow got back to the stage in no time :wink2:

The fan whom Mika invited to the stage for "Elle me dit" - I think that has been his once in a lifetime moment. The guy danced so incredibly well, and I think he only realized the huge cheers and applause as he left the stage.

For me, it has probably been the best experience of any kind since years and years. I loved every tiny bit of it, and when we went back to our hotel, waiting at the traffic lights a bit away from the venue, somehow realizing what I had witnessed there - I simply teared up in front of Gare de Flandres and had to stand there for a moment in the fresh air and breathe. This won't have been my last Mika experience, for sure! I am incredibly thankful for having had the opportunity to be a part of this. Saying to Mika "you made my day!" would simply be a MASSIVE understatement. Yesterday has been one of the happiest days in my life.

  5. Hello all!

I'm Deepblue, but I also respond to my real name, Sascha :wink2:

I am 43 years old, and I live in the westernmost part of Germany, close to the borders to the Netherlands and Belgium. I came across Mika about two years ago, in a time where I had to cope with some not-so-nice health issues. And as music has always been a great tool for me to reduce stress and to work on mental issues, I started to crawl Spotify for some happy playlists. And then, Mika was suddenly there, and his music immediately drew me deep into this happy and joyful rabbit hole.

Of course, I knew his biggest hits from the past, but not really a lot more. But once I started to look deeper into his discography, it really struck me how much there is for every single emotional state one could be in. I love to sing and dance joyfully to "Elle me dit" or "Love Today", shed a little tear when listening to "Happy Ending" or "Underwater", or enjoy the subtle messages in the lyrics of songs like "Toy Boy" or "30 secondes". I know these are big words, but Mika has helped me a lot with his music in a very difficult time of my life (and still does!), and I am forever grateful for that. Also, I believe that he is a fantastic ambassador for diversity and equality. Standing up for diversity is important to me, and I believe that calling out the tiny and big injustices in everyday life is kind of a civic duty, especially for those of us who are really privileged.

And now, I'm here! I came across the Mika Fan Club as I was searching for more information on Mika's current tour. In just four days from now, I will attend my first ever Mika concert in Lille, and I can hardly wait for it. I think I'm already driving my wife crazy at the moment with my botched attempts to get these french lyrics right, and she will have to live with that for the next few days :wink2:

This much about me for the time being ... I'm looking forward to whatever expects me here, and maybe I'll see some of you in Lille this weekend!

  6. Hi all!

I‘m new here, and as I didn‘t find a proper place for self-introductions, I thought this might be the place for me :wink2:

I‘m going, and good lord, am I hyped! My first ever MIKA concert, eventually my first live concert visit since almost 15 years, and I am as happy as a little boy 2 days before Christmas. Maybe even happier. A lot happier. I can‘t wait to be there, and looking forward to seeing some of you there!

EDIT: Blame me, I found the introduction thread ... I will catch up on that asap - well, in the afternoon, probably :wink2:
