Mika: M

 

I: Thanks for being here on the day your release your new album. We're going to hear "Rain" later on.

You had alot of success fast. You did 2 years on tour, 2 years of success, Parc des Princes,

awards, so sold millions of CDs

*Mika shruds*

Girl: Yes! millions on Cds!5 or 6 millions?

M: yes...

Girl: well, thats millions!

M: yeah... ooh, i'm scared, I'm all alone on my side of the table!

I: And you're now in England and you still live at your parants house?

M:Yes! *laughs* I'm a bit ashamed of that... but i have my own apartment

in the basement of my family's house.

Girl: in which you did some renovations?

M: yes!I destructed everything... I had some money so i didn't wanna move

cause i didnt have time to choose something else, so i thought i should

redo my whole apartment. I bought a very nice kitchen that was way too pricey

cause honestly its not worth it...And after that, i wouldn't write

anymore in the apartment cause everything had changed.And it was a mistake

I: the first album was about your childhood, now its about your teenage

years even if you're 26 years old and when we read your interviews you're very mature.

M: *laughs* Well, its an easy to explain the concept of the album.

It's not all about my childhood, but it was a progression from the first

to the second. I always say that a second album is like being a teenager

because it's with the second album that you have to direct your career.

I: theres a huge gap between the very happy music and the very dark lyrics.

Other guy: yes, when we hear your music, theres like another dark soundtrack

in it. Like WAG, its a boy who looses it and wants to hurt himself, in Rain

its a guy who doesnt like his relationship. Also, BIOTG, his father is

dead! And, weirdly, we wanna get up and dance.

M: yeah, when i started to write music, i wanted to give myself power.

I knew that even if you were lonely, if i could write a song that would

be powerful, it would give me power, and power to my message. In pop music,

the happy part of the music catches people...

Other guy: the melodys grab the lonely people?

M: a little bit. For me, as a kid, it was a reflex.

Other other guy: you even invented the word "hyperpop" to describe that.

M: yes, i invented that word while i was sending my demos. No albel

wanted to give me a contract...

I: those that rejected musn't have a big career now..

M:Well... some are much more rich than i am!

Other guy: Theres no category to put you on the stands in stores.

M: no, well thats it. So i thought i would create a style and put it

on the cover of my demos. So i did my own marketing, like i already had a

label contract. And it was just me and my sister cutting little paper

pieces...

I: Your sister had a big influence in your art, on your cds? your clothes?

M: my older sister, Yasmine, works on the drawings, then Paloma, helps

me with style, and my younger sister is still in school in fashion.

Girl: and your mother is also working with you.

M: yes, but she's hiding. theres never a picture of you. She's even

here today and she has a deal that no one can show her face.

Girl:Yes! we wanted her to come on the set! Is she shy?

M: i dont know... she just doesn't want to be in the public eye.

I: we're going to see the clip WAG. Why did you choose to do it like that?

M:i'ts like we're not supposed to see whats happening in this bedroom.

it's about sexuality and teenage years, and its fragile and sad. So

i wanted a 17 years old boy in his bedroom asking the world to give him a

reason to live himself and to live. My video isnt what pop stars

are supposed to do. They're supposed to dress in fancy clothes on

a stage with lots of lights. And i presented WAG to the Universal's

big boss.. and he hated it... and i just thought, he doesn't get it!

But i like it! and thats why i did it!

I:how do you live with fame? I noticed that the more success you have

the more lonely you seem.

M:Yes, i don't know, its hard to tell... someday's you can feel

really successful, and another day you can lock youself up in

a studio and feeling totally normal.

Girl:but in the music business, you have some friends: Lady Gaga, Bett Ditto(sp?)

theyre all characters?

M: yes, they are characters, like in a cartoon.

Girl: like you?

M: oh, im not sure. I'm obsessed with the idea of comic books because

for me, its exactly like pop music.

other Girl: you say that popstars are stupid..

M: ah, no! theyre not stupid! they're mean...theres a big difference.

And amongst themselves, theyre even worse!! well, i say that.. hmm yeah*giggles*

Guy: youre a huge Sylvie Vartan's fan, you're seeing her int he Olympia

M: tomorrow night..

Guy: and she's also a fan of yours. She discovered you a couple of years

ago with your first album, she saw your show in LA. When she knew

you'd be here tonight, she wanted to give you a little gift.

M:Seriously?

Guy: yes

tonight i wanted to give you a little gift. I know you enjoy art, japaneese

art. So i found this book, i hope you'll like it. From the artist Takashi

Murakami (please, feel free to correct the name!! lol).

Guy: its a great japaneese artist exposing right now in Paris.

M: its awesome! thank you so much!its very nice!

Guy: You also had another idol when you were younger, Chantal Goya.

M: yes.. *laughs*

I: you talked about it the other day on radio

M: i was young! yes..

Guy: you saw her 4 times in concert, and she really liked it, and she

has a question for you

M: really??!! oH my God!

 

Chantal Goya:

In a newspaper, you taled about Madonna. And you said that you had some revelations, that

you knew alot of things about her sexual life. So, what are those secrets?

 

Guy: you HAVE to answer her!!

M: what did she ask??

Girl: what are Madonna's sexual secrets?

M: oooh, no i can't!

All the people: 'Common!!

M: nooo!

Girl: its the title of your CD: The Boy Who Knew Too Much?! Tell us!!

M: i cant!, no no no! I'm not drunk! so i can't

Other girl: It was that hard??

M: whaa.. erm... well... (i looove his face there!! (3:54))

Guy: So Chantal Goya offers you her biography, and she wants to know when

you'll do a duet with her!

M:*laughs*

I: like every Friday, here is Camel(sp?), our magician

C: Hello! Hello Mika!

 

Theres the whole magic trick... i dont think i have to translate allt his

so ill just translate the bits with mika

 

So theres the whole kleenex trick...

 

so at 5:30,

C: hello Mika, im so glad to see you tonight. And i was told that you

love card tricks!

M: yes, but i can never do them.

C: so i'm gonna show you a little trick. Here are the cards. So, you

speak English? ()

M: well, both yeah..

C: ok, tell me "stop" when you want

M: stop!

C: ok, take the card and show it to people.

C: put it back there.

M: where?

C: wherever you want. So, to be sure that i dont cheat, you're gonna shuffle

the cards.

M: oh ok!

C: he's amazing Mika.

M: oooh, its great! I love doing this! i just learned how to do it!

*all the cards fly in the air!! !!!!*

*everyone laugh and clap lol*

C: oh its okay!

M: did i mess it up??

C: no its fine!! i've seen alot of people shuffle cards, but like that never!

M: well, now its really well shuffled!

C: it is!! do you know how they shuffle in the states? *shows*

M: ooh, thats what i wanted to do! My grandmother does that!

C: in Spain they suffle like this *shows* and in Belgium like this *shows*

Have you ever seen a lebaneese shuffle cards?

M:*laughs*

C: a friend of mine is lebaneese, and he shuffled the cards like this:

face up, face down, face up, face down.

M:*laughs*

C:*does a trick* and now all the cards are in the right order again!

except one!

M: ahh, thats great!

C: but this card also travels! Just put it back in the deck, and there it is

again!

M: thats crazy!

C: ok, really fast! now the card is gone

M: incredible!

C: now its traveling into Arianne's pocket! look in your pockets, and now its

in Mikas pockets! Can you give me a CD.. so this one is sealed, and

you ahve to buy it! So mika, it is really sealed right?

M:yes..

C: could you open it?

M:*unwraos the CD*

C: ok, put it on the table and open it.

M: *opens CD* nooo!!!

C: thank you! *leaves*

 

I: So here is "Rain". Mika, can what can you tell us about this song?

M: it was a breakup letter. I let this letter on a table and i left

and i never saw this person again. And i thought it would be funny to put it

on a dance song rythm. It's like a vengeance!

 

Mika sings "Rain"

 

I: Is there a tour?

*A guy yells in the audience MIKA!!!*

M: *laughs* wowww.. yes, the tour will start in February,a nd i will try

to come back here before Christmas. But after, there'll be 10 or 12

dates in France, and then accross Europe, then Asia, America (we're still

waiting lol)..

Guy: and then Galaxy!

M: yeah, i dont know! *laughs*
