  1. The newspapers have put it about that it's five. The papers also got it wrong about his father - who is not a millionaire. But it's interesting finding all this trivia bit by bit. CW.
  2. Right - just put "LICM" ino my MacbookPro and it opened iTunes, listing just the songs, finishing with track 11 Ring Ring. I looked the files in the drive info and just 11 files. Hmm... I feel a bit cheated. Where do we report this kind of stuff??? Strangely too - it didn't ask me if i wanted to download to my computer. New CDs invariably do. Odd! I'm running Mac OS X Version 10.4.5 CW.

  4. Mika has confirmed that he has a FOUR octave vocal range. See Culture Show Video Link and Transcript THIS THREAD MIKA: I don’t have five ‘cos that would mean I had an octave range that went… one, two, three … (plinks piano keys for each octave). It would mean I would be able to sing.... ‘cos that’s four. One, two, three, four – that would be huge. CW,
  5. Hi People May like to check out the BBC2 Culture Show site for a 2-Part Interview with Mika - attached to this week's edition (3 Feb 07) page on there - HERE The interveiw is conducted in a very noisy bar and it is difficult to hear what is being said - but if you can stand it, Mika talks about some interesting stuff. Direct addresses, which might work: PART 1 PART 2 CW.
  6. Hi Folks As promised, I've finished transcript and posted it with the vudeo thread. Hope that is the right place? HERE - Mika on BBC2 The Culture Show 3 Feb 07 CW.
  7. BBC 2 THE CULTURE SHOW Sat 3 February 2007 TRANSCRIPT BY: CAUTIONARY WIFE Lauren Laverne talks to Mika, followed by performance of 'Grace Kelly' by Mika alone, on piano.. --- LAUREN LAVERNE: Now allow me to introduce the hottest act in the country right now. Singer-songwriter Mika has been at No 1 in the charts for 3 weeks and he’s still only 23. Welcome to the show, Mika. MIKA: Thank you. L: So look, this week, right – let me get this right – you’re number one in the charts, you’ve just returned from New York, where you were received rapturously, you’ve got a sold-out UK tour coming off and you’ve got 32,000 friends on mySpace, so how does it feel to be you tonight? M: Pretty good. L: Yeah. M: Yeah. Feels great. L: One person that you’ve been drawing a lot of comparisons with is the late, great Freddie Mercury. Lots of people say that vocally, you know, you have a strong resemblance to him. That’s, I think, a compliment. M: I think it’s a huge compliment, but it’s also terrifying. I think it’s a compliment and really scary. L: Why so – ‘cos people might expect you to don lycra . . . ? M: (laughs) No, it’s not that. Because he was a, he’s, you know, a technical genius and also a monster songwriter and had this incredible grasp of melody. I never would ever compare myself to Freddie Mercury. L: You have got this 5-octave vocal range. Is it true what they say, “big octave - massive opera collection”, (laughter in studio) or is that just a rumour? (laughing) M: I don’t have five ‘cos that would mean I had an octave range that went… one, two, three … (plinks piano keys for each octave). It would mean I would be able to sing, ‘cos that’s four. One, two, three, four – that would be huge. L: Okay. M: I can’t sing much. L: There’s a rumour that Simon Cowell told you that your songs were too weird when he rejected you in his A&R capacity. Is that true? M: I met him when I was really young. I was about sixteen. I was very proud of a demo that I had just recorded and I played him my stuff and, of course, he fast-forwarded through the songs, and in the end he was just like, you know, “Your songs aren’t very good but your voice is kind of distinctive and that could hold you in good stead.” I knew immediately that he wasn’t the person to work with me. L: You’re not going to be entering X Factor next series then? (laughs) M: No, they would just throw me right out. L: They would be mad, wouldn’t they. M: I would be one of the freaks in the short line… (all talk at once) L: Yeah, they would. Don’t give up your day job. M: Yeah. (chuckling) “There’s this guy with a song called ‘Grace Kelly”. Isn’t it funny. L: Sharon would go (imitating and screwing up face), “I loved it. That’s about Grace Kelly. So glamorous.” (laughing) So. sp ‘Grace Kelly’ is, like it sounds, you know, a straight 3-minute pop song, but it’s got a bit of a dark undercurrent lyrically. Tell us. What is it? M: It sounds like the happiest song ever, but I wrote it when I was completely furious. I went home from an hour-long meeting where they told me that I had to basically knuckle down and write songs like everyone else, at least for my first album. By the time I get to my second album, I could do whatever I want, and I knew that was completely false. So I went home and I wrote ‘Grace Kelly’ as a little ‘stick-you’ song to them and typed out the lyrics and I sent it to them. I think that by the time they got to the bit that said, “Should I bend over, should I look older, just to be put on your shelf?”, they kind of figured out. L: Yeah - their loss. Well, thank you very much. We look forward to hearing from you in just a moment. M: Thank you. L: (Trailers next week’s show) So until next week, we’re gonna leave you with Mika, performing his number one single, ‘Grace Kelly’. Thanks for watching. < GRACE KELLY performed. Mike accompanies himself on piano.> ENDS.

  12. Yup it is the b side to the Grace Kelly 7". It's very much acoustic guitar based. I wasn't sure when I first heard it, but it soon grew on me. A kind of a Twinkle Twinkle little star, but about a Satellite - the way the vocals soar reminiscent of the Bee Gees. You can hear a sample here http://www.virgindigital.co.uk/music/Mika/GraceKellySingle.htm?ark=1033742&alk=18828763 or on iTunes or possibly HMV Digital http://www.hmvdigital.com You can certainly get the 7" vinly at hmv.co.uk and amazon.co.uk. 15. DAILY MIRROR 3AM Wed 07 February 2007 He may be number one but Mika still needs our help to get a date. We met up with the flamboyant singer at the launch of his hotly-tipped new album, Life In Cartoon Motion. And in his only interview, he told us: "I want 3am to run a competition to find me someone to date me. "I may be getting famous now but no one wants to go out with me. In fact, no one has ever really wanted to go on a date with me." He added: "I've got no date for Valentine's Day either - it's a bit depressing to be honest." The camp performer has remained tight-lipped about whether it's ladies or gents he likes but he'll have no shortage of suitors after the T-Mobile Street Gig held in a giant marquee in London's exclusive Berkeley Square. Kicking off with floor-filler Relax, Take It Easy, he stepped up the pace with Bobby Brown and the Scissor Sisters-esque Big Girl. But it was Grace Kelly that brought the tent down. And all this after council killjoys cancelled his soundcheck because offices complained about the noise. They should Take It Easy themselves... LIVE! MIKA: London SET LIST Relax Love Today Billy Brown Everything's Talkin' Big Girl My Interpretation Over My Shoulder Struck in the Middle Grace Kelly Lollipop --- CW.
  16. I'm can't get out of my head 'Satellite' - love how it soars and dips, the hauntingness of 'Over My Shoulder', and infectiously joyful cover of Shakira's 'Hips'. CW.
  17. THE SUN Bizarre Gig Guide February 07, 2007 MIKA played the perfect ringmaster at his cartoon-like circus gig on Monday night. The singer raised the roof on the big top with the campest set of the year so far. He pulled out all stops with dragons, flamboyant exotic dancers, cheeky monkeys and outrageous drag queens. And he seemed to love every minute. Grinning around the multi-coloured tent which housed a star-studded audience including SOPHIE ELLIS-BEXTOR, THE FEELING’S RICHARD JONES and DAN GILLESPIE, and AMY NUTTALL and her sheepish date STEVE JONES, Mika said: “This is the birthday party of my dreams.†Wearing white skinny jeans, a pair of yellow braces and gold Jimmy Choo shoes, he opened the show with the catchy Relax, Take It Easy. His proud family and friends sang along to every word. With the high-pitched Love Today, he jumped like a lamb between playing the keyboard and dancing. Later, his cover of HARRY NILSSON’s Everybody’s Talkin’ slowed down the festivities. His voice was so pitch- perfect I wondered if he was singing live at all. But his regular commentary with the crowd – throughout the T-Mobile Street Gig – confirmed he’s a real natural. It’s just a shame the neighbours at the Berkeley Square gig didn’t agree – they had his soundcheck halted because he was too loud. Images: Star turn ... 18. Born: 18 August 1983 Yup - 23 at the mo'. CW.
  19. Hmmm... Mika appears to have become anti-size 0 icon, and himself little more than a slip of a boy... CW. ---- RADAR TALK OF THE TENTS By Sarah Horne 02/06/07 At the Max Azria show Monday night, hot Parisian DJ Michel Gaubert raised a middle finger to the fashion industry's feeble attempts to encourage "healthy weights" by blaring a tune from British artist Mika. Strains of "Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)" filled the tent as a troupe of ultra-skinny Flavias and Magdalenas did their thing, prompting laughter from the front row, where un-big It-girls Leigh Lezark, Tinsley Mortimer, and Olivia Palermo looked on. Sample lyrics: "Big girl, you are beautiful / Walks into the room / Feels like a big balloon / Diet coke and a pizza please." The song goes on to praise gals with "curves in all the right places." After the CFDA essentially rejected an initiative to regulate models' weights, opting instead to ban smoking and provide "healthy snacks" backstage, perhaps it's the DJs who'll have to force-feed Snejana. 20. CONTACT MUSIC 07/02/2007 British music sensation MIKA insists overnight fame hasn't sorted out his love problems - he still can't get a date. The flamboyant pop performer may be reaping the success hit single GRACE KELLY has given him in Britain, but insists the lack of romance is "depressing". He explains, "I may be getting famous now but no one wants to go out with me. In fact, no one has ever really wanted to go on a date with me. "I've got no date for Valentines Day either - it's a bit depressing to be honest." --- CW.

  22. THE INDEPENDENT 07 February 2007 Monday was a weird day for the musician Mika, currently atop the singles chart. He was at the heart of a rude exchange between Queen guitarist Brian May and rock critic Alexis Petridis. The journalist panned Mika's album; May urged the "w**ker" Petridis to quit. Judging by his beaming grin on Monday night, Mika enjoyed the altercation. Playing a T-Mobile Street Gig in a big top tent in posh Mayfair, the eccentric delighted a crowd of clowns, cowgirls, monkeys, drag queens and someone dressed as a fly. But the concert was nearly scuppered by noise inspectors hours before. "We were trying to sound-check," Mika said, "and lots of local people complained to the council, who came to shut us down." Westminster Council confirms a rash of complaints at 3pm. Its "noise team" made Mika drop to 70 decibels. Naughty! --- CW.
