  1. A (quite) negative review from the Belgian newspaper "De Standaard": (maybe that's what happens when cancelling the press party ) ★★★★★ De theatrale nichtenpop van de Britse zanger Mika was altijd te nemen of te laten. ---------------------------- Just a google translate changed with a few words because it's way too early in the morning to be translating all the weird words they used... It's not that google translate is that bad... It's really just a weird review. The theatrical queer pop of British singer Mika was always to take or leave. On The Origin of Love, his third album, he filed the last sharp edges of his sound, he drops the bombast and he limited the melodrama to the absolute minimum. The shrill falsetto that you used to love or chased you up the highest tree is only used sporadically. Yep, Mika chooses safety. The über professional, ultra-catchy songs get efficient but sterile outfits fitted by hitmakers like Klas Ahlund (Robyn), Benny Benassi and Pharrell Williams, who produced a Daft Punk-like pop song with 'Celebrate'. Where 's the catch? In the lyrics? Nope, mediocrity also prevails there: Mika rattles about happiness, fun and fame. A barrel full of sing-alongs, but nothing exciting.
  2. I wonder when they will contact the winners for the online thing... Let's hope for good news
  3. I wouldn't participate and spend money if I didn't have to
  4. Oh ****!! Imagine still having no ticket on the day Oh really? Do they still give away tickets tonight? Great!
  5. Well, I don't know EMD was a hit here and I love that one... I understand enough french to understand, but I don't like the new French songs that much... Karen is okay. And as long as he doesn't only talk in French like he did in Brussels 2009 it's all good. Agreed, the normal version of LYWID is much better than the acoustic one imo. The acoustic version lost so much of the happy-quirky-let's-be-crazy vibe this song has. And again, agreed! After hearing the regular version it's like: "demo what?" and this acoustic version can't compete with it anymore! The new version is just too amazing. Yeah... I like the Benassi remix of Stardust, I really do, maybe even more than the original. But it's not that different
  6. Oh come on!! I must be the first one some time... No? I don't know how I could text faster... The text was gone on the first tone of celebrate
  7. I found it in my local Free Record Shop They didn't have the French deluxe though, so maybe the Flemish part gets the uk/us edition and the French part the French version?
  8. I have the UK/US edition and I can tell you the acoustic version of "The origin of love" really IS even better, it's the best acoustic track imo
  9. Lore, I think it's the same girl I saw tweeting earlier Oh well.... Next show I guess...
  10. I guess they must have already contacted the winner so...
  11. So true, sucks! I'd prefer if they just did a draw Same with the texting... *expensive*
  12. I thought there was some hidden meaning LOL. I don't even know the bunny though.

  13. What's with the moustache on your bunny? :teehee:

  14. My dad's a hunter too, there's lots of dead animals in our house too, I never thought it was normal though and I never will. *brrrrr*
  15. I also think it's VERY hard to win tickets And expensive *sigh* I've looked at videos of the Selah Sue Q-showcase and the venue looked very big for a "showcase" imo.. Bigger than the jim gig I think. So I'm guessing 90% of all people will be vips/invited etc.
  16. Okay, I can only start by saying this album turned out to be so much better than I thought initially. With the leak of MYH and those live versions of underwater & TOOL I was disappointed to say the least. So I was very happy to hear a coherent and innovative sound when listening to the entire album the first time. I find myself listening to the album on repeat, just like with LICM, and only sporadically skipping a song. Not because it's "UGH", but because I want to skip to the amazing songs! ----------------------------------------- ORIGIN OF LOVE: 8/10 This song has grown on me. I didn't know what to think of it when first hearing those live versions but I have to say the end result is very good. I could live without the Latin bit but overall I really like the feeling of this song. I can really feel the love in this song, if that makes sense? It makes me feel all pink and fluffy. LOLA: 7.5/10 I immediately loved this song and I like to sing along to it. It's the type of song I could have in my head for days. I have to say though, I think I will get bored of it sooner rather than later. STARDUST: 9.8/10 Now this! This song is amazing! It caught my attention immediately. I remember when we first heard a snippet of it, I had that one line stuck in my head the entire week! I could listen to this again and again and again... In fact I am I really don't understand why they didn't release this as a single. This song is such a happiness/energy booster. The title alone, stardust, fantastic. I can imagine myself blasting this in the car with my windows rolled down, screaming along MAKE YOU HAPPY: 6.5/10 I really disliked this song when it leaked. It was SO different from what I expected. The "all I wanna do is make you happy" drove me nuts. I have to say I like this (my itunes says French) version a lot more. Of course there is still the repetitive bit that I dislike, but I really enjoy the mix of the classical instruments, strings with the electronic bits! Much better imo. I always liked the ending though, the big buildup, and I still think it's the best part of the song. UNDERWATER: 8/10 This took me by surprise. After hearing a live version of it a long long time ago I was a bit undecided about it. It was okay, nothing more. I always prefer the more upbeat songs in any case. The album version is very beautiful though. It has this great peaceful vibe to it. I get so relaxed when listening to this song and I absolutely love the music. OVERRATED: 10/10 I don't know what else to say about it... 10/10! I was VERY surprised when I heard this. It's nothing like the demo at all. And I'm glad it isn't. I loved the demo but this is just wow. I adore this song and it just gets better and better the more I hear it. I never imagined Mika doing this type of real electro song. Who would have thought he'd be so good at it? His voice lends itself perfectly to this type of music imo. I also can't say I ever heard something like this before, so that made me decide to rate it a 10 KIDS: 5.5/10 It's okay. It isn't that original though. And like I said before, I prefer upbeat songs. The type of song I'd skip to hear stardust again! LYWID: 9.5/10 Fantastic!! This is exactly the kind of music I expect from Mika and it doesn't disappoint. I can totally see him performing this already, sitting behind the piano, bopping along. Adorable and very catchy song. STEP WITH ME: 2/10 Ai... My least favorite song for sure. It starts with the beginning. What are those bells? I think I'm going to hear a Christmas song. Not the case I soon discovered. This is the type of song he could have written for any boyband out there. I really wish he had written it for Westlife instead of putting it on this album. POPULAR: 5/10 I kinda like it. I'm not really a fan of Priscilla's voice though. I don't really have an opinion on this song yet. I like it more and more but it won't ever be a favorite. EMILY: no rating No rating because I find it totally unnecessary to change EMD to an English version. ELLE ME DIT: 8/10 Love it HEROES: 6.5/10 It's a beautiful, emotional ballad. CELEBRATE: 7/0 At first I loved this song, but comparing it to what else is on the album I can't give it more than a 7 out of 10 TAH DAH: 10/10 Talking about surprises! How amazing is this song? Why is it not on the album??? So Emily makes it, this doesn't... What's up with that? Who knew a song with such a title could be such a great song?! It reminds me so much of a song from the 80's or 70's but I can't quite place it. I absolutely adore it though and I really hope he'll play it live!
  17. I'm more than happy too! Thanks for posting, Christine! I think the booklet looks great! Much better than expected when you just see the cover.
  18. Ohhh!! They're called FUN? I had no idea, I love that song though! Oh no, I'm sorry, what a shame!!
  19. I really dislike Brussels, and I surely don't feel the need to get to know it better I prefer Antwerp
