  1. He's just your usual 20-something tall skinny boy. Visit your local college campus; you'll see plenty of them. :-P It's fairly normal for a lot of men at that age to look this way. Heck, just look at the indie bands for comparison's sake...
  2. J'adore ses entrevues françaises aussi, et je suis americaine! Il parle français dans une manière vraiment adorable. Mais sa voix est merveilleuse n'importe quelle langue!
  3. Lovely! I love "Ugly Betty." Glad to know they love Mika.
  4. Ooooooh, I hope he does a weekend in NY. I'd drive up for that for sure. Ideally, a late Friday show in Philly, and then Sat/Sun in NY. That would be so amazing.
  5. Just bought mine! Bloody service charges! Now to make sure I'm in the DC area that day...
  6. Ha, I got some of my albums signed by Tony Visconti recently, and am contemplating getting new ones, so that I could have a signed copy and a "clean" copy. You shouldn't ask me how many copies of the movie "Velvet Goldmine" I own!
  7. Moi aussi, s'il vous plait! Also, does anyone have the lyrics for Your Sympathy?
  8. Hahah, how else do you think I discovered Mika? Well, actually I had been waxing poetic about Queen's wonderful song '39, and my sister linked me to Mika's Grace Kelly video, and of course I had to pay attention to the singer with the curly hair! By the way, Mika's curls also remind me a bit of a young Syd Barrett... I guess I just love all the ones with the dark curly hair. ;-)
  9. Oh, please not leather! I am vegan and would not wear one...
  10. I hope so! It's so fun to do! As for the MarcMarcMarc I was talking about, it's Marc Bolan. Even though I'm Mika's age, I bet it'll be the 30-ish ladies here who know who he is. Ha, I am a Bowie fan too, quite. And yes, I have multiple copies of his albums. (It's the damn reissues! Plus you need to have the vinyl--playing Ziggy "full volume" on a CD player just doesn't cut it!) I guess I'm an honorary 30-something?
  11. Forgive me for saying this guys, but my first thought was "But Eminem's already written that song!"
  12. Good taste! I love everyone sharing their sad we-can't-beat-our-addiction stories. Ha.
  13. Oh, so he has long toes! Big deal! All the more reason to keep them warm. Maybe I'm just a big proponent of those socks 'cause I love them. But he probably has them already, because he tends to wear a lot of things I wear, so giving them to him may be of no use... hah.
  14. Well, I was joking, but you'd hardly have to make the socks. Just buy a pair of these, and embroider them with lyrics or lollipops or something.
  15. I love you guys. What with the trousers, the shirt, the underwear (oh, you know someone will actually try to make him some in the near future), Mika will soon have no need to buy clothes ever. That is, unless he wants a day off from plaid trousers, sparkly shirts, and hot pink apple-patterned undies. Next up: Socks? Rainbow footies, anyone?
  16. Ooooh, who was the popstar you liked when you were 14? blackwildkitty: The funny thing about listening to other music is that I originally started listening to Mika in order to distract myself from another musical obsession. Oh, irony.
  17. It should be simple enough to make your own with a visit to your local craftstore! They always have alphabet-beads, so you could do a rainbow-colored MIKA with other charms on the side. :-) http://www.talontoys.com/alpha_charms.jpg
  18. Hahah, that's what people tell me, but posh on that I say! Grown ups are dreadfully boring after all. I do say to myself sometimes, "but you are busy graduate student, you must give up this sillyness and focus on working on your ph.d.!" but that doesn't last very long.
  19. So since I've annoyed the heck out of everyone ever since finding Mika by talking about him nonstop, I tried to regain some control over my life, and very resolutely did not listen to any of his music (well, almost... I didn't listen to LiCM anyway) over the last 2-3 days. And then I thought, "well! I don't have the urge to go MikaMikaMikaMikaMikaMikaMika anymore. Quite all right, jolly good!" Then I popped in LiCM. And of course immediately I was all "Mika Mika Mika Mika Mika Mika Miiiiiiiiiikkkkkaaaaa" again. (Actual quote from an email I had been writing to friend at the time "Grace Kelly" started to play. Poor friend.) Anyone else have any better success at taking breaks from this? Also, Mika: good job on the stage name. The last musician I was obsessed with was named Marc, and his name was likewise very good for repetition: Marc Marc Marc Marc Marc MarcMarcMarc. I think the "M" names work well for chanty obsessiveness.
  20. I like that the shirt idea seems to be going well, and if everyone works on it, it should be fully feasible. As for the multi-country "Happy Birthday," I agree that it might be difficult, but it would be fun to try. So let's get the t-shirt details worked out, and then later I'll start a separate thread for the letter thing. I'll just assign letters to countries at random, and people can sign up if they want to do it, and then we'll see how that works. But let's just focus on the shirt idea first, and how you could get it to him. Aude, ne t'inquiètes pas du matériel de t-shirt: je suis certain que tout ce que tu fais sera absolument chouette!
  21. Well, of course they'd have to be baked and sent off as near to his birthday as possible, but this is why I suggested gingerbread--I think it takes a longer time to become stale. That said, is anyone still up for the multi-country "Happy Birthday" idea? And also, count me into the list! :-)
  22. I like the t-shrt idea, and as for sweets: how about everyone who can, bakes a little gingerbread figure or a cookie in the shape of one of the characters? A lolliop girl, Billy Brown, his wife, a big girl, and so on. Then we'd need to get some kind of address, and everyone can send them in, along with whatever else they wish. But he could have a year's supply of LICM-themed cookies. Also, for a birthday card, why don't we assign a letter of "Happy Birthday" per country, and have the fans of that country try and figure out the best way to take a photo of that letter? The bigger the better! They can get together to form the letter with their bodies, or they can build it like a sandcastle on the beach, or go out at night and spell it out with candles, etc. Then someone takes a photo of each letter and sends it in, and Mika gets a truly global "Happy Birthday." (If there are more countries than letters in "Happy Birthday", we can make it "Happy Birthday, Mika" etc.) --Jack
  23. Thank you all! Hope to enjoy it here. :-)
  24. Hello, everybody! I registered a few days ago, but had been trying not to post due to the fact that I already spend enough time listening to Mika, watching youtube vids, etc, and thought that I'd better keep what remains of my sanity and time to myself. But then again, I also thought I'd wait a few weeks or so after first hearing "Grace Kelly" to buy the album, and instead ran out and bought it two days later. Literally ran, too. Anyway, my sister first linked me to the music video after I asked for recommendations of music that sounded like 70s Queen, and while I wouldn't say that's exactly what Mika sounds like, I've been obsessed ever since. All my friends are tired of hearing about Mika. All the people I ran into who aren't my friends (including some well-known musicians I got to meet recently) are tired of hearing about Mika. (Because, of course, what else would I talk to them about?) Heck, Perez Hilton will soon be tired of hearing me talk about Mika. But I'm hoping you guys won't be. ;-) Things I love about Mika other than the songs: his curly hair, because all the British singers I love have to have curly hair. (No, really, it's a pattern.) His suspenders/braces, because hey, that's what I wear! I have to like a man who shares my fashion taste. He even has my socks. Though thanks to you guys, I can know that we do NOT share the same taste in underwear. I'm an American fan, and hoping Mika will indeed come back here this summer, because I first discovered him 3 days after he did the show in NY. (Dammit! I live by there.) I'm actually trying to figure out whether the job I am hoping to get for this summer will be flexible enough to allow me to attend his shows, and whether I should take it if it requires me to work evenings. Yeah, it's bad. Oh well, no cure for it, I suppose!
