  1. That reminds me of something Stephen Fry said (I think he was quoting someone else).. "All religious wars are the history of people arguing over who's got the biggest imaginary friend."
  2. Hello all! I hope I'm able to go see Mika in November. I'll be in year 12 by then (scary), so I hope it's not around any assignment dates or anything. But overall, November is a good time for me. I've been really busy lately with school.. Today I got the application form for school captain but I don't know if I'll fill it in. I know I wouldn't get the position but it doesn't hurt to have a try!
  3. Haha, I love how all the Queen birthdays are around the same time of year! Today at school I was telling as many people as I could about John. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEACY!!!
  4. I've heard about those rumours about Fleetwood Mac as well. They were in the same newspaper article that spoke about Paul McCartney coming next year. Haha, I love dreams. I have the strangest subconscious.
  5. Yeah. I think ATAR is pretty similar to the UAI with scaling and everything, except that it's no longer possible to get 100.. The highest possible is 99.95 now (from what I can gather). Yeah. Mathematics and chemistry will be my highest scaling subjects. The English extensions are pretty good, but no where near as highly scalled as the maths extensions. Haha thanks! And yes please! Great dream chickadee!!
  6. Well done!! I think I'm going to stick with the plan of dropping physics and maths extension. I'm just going to have to work really hard next year and limit my time on the internet/MFC! unlikely.
  7. Yes, ATAR! I don't need them for what I want to do. I want to be a primary or high school teacher, but I still want to do well because I'm also interested in health, etc. I think I'll be doing English advanced, English extension 1 and 2, mathematics (advanced), chemistry, studies of religion 2 and music. I'm a little bit worried about music dragging me down because I've heard the scaling is really harsh unless you do spectacularly. Also, my friend's really clever older sister did the exact same subjects as those and got a pretty horrible UAI (not enough to get into teaching). But I don't really know the specifics of her marks, so maybe she was just unmotivated.. Anyway, why am I stressing about this now?! I'm not even in year 12 yet! I actually don't mind extension maths and I'm not too bad at it (I got 87 for the first semester). But I want to drop it and physics so that I can have more time to focus on the subjects that I enjoy more.
  8. Argh, this entire weekend I've been stressing about school and next year! I really want to drop physics and maths extension but all these websites are making me feel like my UAI/whatever it's called now is going to be horrible without doing them!
  9. I just got back from seeing David Helfgott (the pianist the film Shine, starring Geoffery Rush, was made about). He was incredible! He's a little bit crazy, because of traumatic life and mental illness, so throughout the two-hour recital of some amazing pieces he mumbled and hummed to himself the whole time! It was so endearing! I was sitting in the front row, a couple of seats right to the centre, which was perfect because I could see his hand movements really clearly. After the final song (Flight of the Bumblebee!) my mum started the standing ovation, and absolutely everyone in the concert hall was standing, clapping and cheering. It was amazing. And then I got to shake his hand! In other great news, my mum's friend from France is in town. And we were talking to her about music before the show started and I mentioned that Queen are my favourite band. Then she said that she saw them in the 80s and snuck in a camera and took a few photos of Freddie (she said she was in about the third row from the front). And she's going to send them to me!
  10. I don't think I'll make a We Are Golden video. I just can't be bothered. But.. Paul McCartney is coming to Australia next year for his farewell tour around the World. I really want to go!
  11. Haha.. If I was Mika it would be more like 24 months. And don't expect me to tour Australia until I'm good and ready! Me neither! I can't wait to hear all of the other songs as well.
  12. Recording was a lot of fun! The grand piano at the studio was amazing.. I loved it all. I think the song turned out really well, and everyone else's songs sounded great! We probably won't get the CD for another couple of months because they have to mix everything and cut it, etc.. but when I do get it, I'll let you guys have a listen! *goes and collapses into bed*
  13. Haha, okay! Well, I think I'm going to go to bed. I should probably have an early night given that I'll be waking up at around 5am tomorrow. I'll log on tomorrow night when I get home to let you all know how it went in Melbourne! Na-night!
  14. Okay, thanks! I hope it's a bit sooner this time. That's true. Haha! I don't think you'll be saying that, but it would be nice! Yep, I live on the NSW side of the NSW/Victoria border. Albury, NSW! Albury, NSW! Albury, NSW! Albury, NSW! Albury, NSW! Albury, NSW!
  15. Aww, that sounds amazing. Sadly I was only born a couple of months after the tribute concert.. I wish I could have been there, it's brilliant. Beautiful rendition of '39. It really is an amazing song. I love all of the old live performances of it with Freddie, he seemed to have a lot of fun with it. I really love Brian's 12-string acoustic.. It's got such a rich, warm sound.
  16. When do you all think tickets will go on sale (if he does stick to his word and come for one or two shows in November)? Thankyou! But I didn't really do much, the vocalist made the song great!
  17. Argh, yes. This moment from the tribute concert was so touching and sad. I hope he went and had a good cry afterwards. I love his waistcoat!
  18. Why did it take me so long to find this thread? I'm in love with Brian May! He's my favourite member of Queen (as difficult as it is for me to have favourites). One of my life goals is to meet him and tell him what an inspiration he is.. I have this whole speech planned out but if I did meet him I'd probably be completely awestruck and say something stupid like "You have curly hair.." Some of my favourite Queen songs were written by him.. '39, Teo Torriate, We Will Rock You, Good Company, Fat Bottomed Girls, Save Me, No-one But You.. The list goes on! I also absolutely love Too Much Love Will Kill You, it's so beautiful yet heartbreaking. Brian's voice may not be as strong and powerful as Freddie's, but it has always been really beautiiful and he is capable of expressing so much emotion with it. And there's no real need for me to mention his guitar-playing! I think everyone can agree that it is amazing. The best of all time, in my opinion!
  19. Hello everyone! I'm very happy about Mika coming here in November! I'm hoping that he does under 18 shows this time. And did everyone read his twitter? He has changed the album title! I'm sort of happy about that because I prefer it when artists don't use one of the song titles as the album title.. Which I'm hoping he has now done! Today I, along with a few people in my music class, played at the Eisteddfod. We did 'Buses and Trains' (I was on keyboard) and we came first! And we go to Melbourne to record tomorrow! I'm very excited!
  20. Brilliant! Wow, that video is really good quality! And you're right, it isn't my type of music but I can appreciate the showmanship, etc. I think I will go, even though a lot of it isn't what I would normally listen to, it will be fun! And I'm currently listening to a bit of Clare Bowditch and she's great! Haha, today in chemistry my teacher was walking around the room and he came and picked up my folder and was looking at all the pictures and naming everyone. I was quite proud of him.. He knew almost everyone of the 60s and 70s bands and people (granted, he is the right age), but thought that the picture of Mika performing was Bob Dylan!
  21. Okay! That's good to know. I had heard of British India, but I'm not familiar with any of their work. I hope you feel better really soon!
  22. I think I may be going to see Something With Numbers at some indie festival in my town in September.. I don't really know any of their songs but I've heard (mostly from you and Bianca ) that they are really good. According to my friend, these are the bands/artists playing at it.. Cog + Clare Bowditch + British India + Something With Numbers + Tame Impala + Grafton Primary + Yacht Club DJs + Regular John + Girl in the Red Light + Vanessa Amorosi + The Beautiful Girls + Star Assassin + The Quarters + more. Sound good?
