  1. Funny, with the WAG video, the more I watched it, the more I liked it. This seems to be going the opposite way. I'm refusing to watch it a third time because I really don't want to hate it.

    Simple review:

Pros: Loooved the overall look and feel to it, went well with the music and very love today-esque. Mika looked cute as always (love the hair:wub2:)

Cons: again, reeeaaallly sloppy. I also thought the dancing would be more latin inspired and faster in general.

Although, not a bad addition to Mika's videos

    btw, who directed this?

  2. In the car with my brother and my dad. I begged to listen to either licm or tbwktm. They put on licm.

I went crazy singing along to grace kelly.

Dad: you see, i dont really like this. Its too... Poppy.

    Bro: i cant STAND this!

    Me: pffft.

Dad: its not deep enough. Theres no real feeling. When you listen to rock, you feel the sweat. You can imagine the person sweating, banging on their drums as if their life depended on it- now THATS music. With this, its more like little girls with lollipops in pink dancing around with giant animals and happiness and you know?

Me: *bursts out laughing* (hes never seen a gig or interview or anything, never seen the cd cover, has no idea lollipop gurl exists xD) but thats the point! Rock is nice but its so boring! Its like, fake! I believe that the point in life isnt to make people think that you are cool and way into rock and other shyte, but being happy. Whats the point of banging on a drum if its not to make you happy? The people ur talking about all so like fake doodahs who have this strange obsession with trying to be cool but dont understand that the REAL cool is enjoying yourself! Thats what mikas about.

Bro: stop being such a frickin hippie. Next ur gonnna say you like hugging trees or something.

Me: (i actually do hug trees :S. its cool ok?!) oh shut up. You listen to daft punk. Now wheres the music in that? (he has a technique before every job interview ge listens to daft punk really loud so hes all riled up). im placing a bet. When its my turn to do job interviews, im gonna ace them ALL. ill listen to mika before an ill come in with a massive smile and charm the interviewers, and then ill throw all my stats and jobs in YOUR FACE cause i listen to the real music out there. *huffs and starts singing loudly to big girl*

later, at a dudes house who saw mika live at one point:

dad: yeah. She made us listen to mika all the car ride.

    Dude: hmm

    dad: do you like mika?

Dude: i LOVE him. He has talent!

    Dad: WHAT?!

dude: i wasnt a real fan, like you, but i saw him live, and he has so much energy, and livliness on stage, he has real talent!

Me: thank you! *hugs him and pretends to sob*

i am surrounded by ignorants. -_-'

  3. YKYAMF when your friend tacks "Mika" onto every sentence to get your attention.

i.e. "I dropped my cell phone in the toilet! Mika couldn't even handle this!" (this one actually did happen) I told her "Actually, he probably could, considering he has at least five to prevent people from getting his number. But he'd have to worry about saving all the little charms dangling off of it." :naughty:

  4. (Sorry if there's a thread like this already)

    Here's how it works:

    1. Comment on the book above you

    2. Pick a book you like

    3. Quickly summarize/review

    Here's mine:

Its Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini

an NYC teenager named Craig finally gets into the Executive Pre-Professional High School. He eventually can't take the pressure and almost kills himself, which gets him landed in a mental hospital. There, through his crazy neighbors and mapmaking, he finds his unexpected happiness.

This book mentions a kid named Mika, actually. It says about him: "His dad was a higher-up in the Taxi and Limousine Commission and he had some sort of badge that allowed him to get free cab rides anywhere, anytime." The kid Mika was only in one chapter and I don't think he even said anything, but I thought it was funny that his name was in there and spelled the same way.

  5. So Hi I am new =)) My name is Regina and well I absolutely love Mika since like 2 years ago... I have never thought about entering the fan club since I am at this other fan page but well I just needed to chat with girls/guys who understand my obsession with Mika =))

So... Well.. Hi! =)) And I hope to hear more from you soon =)) (and of Mika too XDDD )

Hi! I love your username! and your real name, btw, reminds me of my other favorite singer regina spektor:blush-anim-cl:

  6. For me it depends entirely on the song. I don't care if I ever hear Grace Kelly or WAG live because they simply can't ever be matched to the studio production, especially when it comes to holding up the falsetto parts.

I also predict One Foot Boy, which I absolutely adore, will be impossible to replicate live because it's really just different tracks of his vocals making up the instruments in the song.

On the other hand I thought Any Other World was an awful cheesy song and I never much cared for Happy Ending and yet these were two of my favourite live songs by the end of the Dodgy Holiday Tour.

Then there are the rare magical songs that work in both cases such as Rain and Relax where the original track is strong and the acoustic is also very very good.

I was disappointed with the studio version of Toy Boy but I think I am particularly biased because I heard it live the first time it was released to the public so to me there is no better version. All of the magic is lost on the studio track but I knew that was inevitable before I even heard it.

I think that is just an inherent problem of being a dedicated fan who follows an artist in everything they do and not really because the live version is so much better than the recorded one. You just develop an attachment to the live version and end up hearing it earlier than the studio version whereas the general public usually hears the studio version first.

    great reply Christine:thumb_yello:!

I agree that any song with a falsetto Mika can't replicate too well live. But I have to disagree in the sense that I do believe some songs are just better live. I find that the 'raw passion' is sometimes missing in studio versions.

  7. I've heard a fair amount of people on the forum say that they were disappointed with the studio versions because they weren't as good as the acoustic versions, and (at the risk of being partisan) I can't say I disagree.

But this reminds me of a similar rift among the fanbase of Regina Spektor when her new abum came out in June. When her last album came out, everyone loved it. Then they heard the live versions which were a thousand times better. Then by the time her latest album was released we had heard most of those songs live which led to a lot of disappointment because everyone expects the studio versions to be of better quality, when really they're just clogged with unnecessary instruments. (did i say this story was similar? more like exactly alike.) I guess this sort of thing happens to every artist.

So, what are you're thoughts on studio vs. acoustic versions?

  8. no we don't know him. but you can see his face lighten up when you ask him about the magic numbers thing. we talked with him about it in milan and in munich, it was all his idea, and he has so many more plans with it - i just love how creative he is, and happy like a little boy about it. but yeah, on the other hand it scares me too, how powerful marketing instruments some of his ideas are, and sometimes wonder whether it can be for real. but i think it is, HE is real. :wub2:

    Awwww!:wub2: he did that?

    i feel bad now....:emot-sad:

    sorry Mika:tears:

  9. Welcome back!:thumb_yello:

I am not sure what it really was that made you leave for a longer period, but concering the 'gimmics' you refer to, I believe they were created with the right intention. :wink2:..

Sometimes it also takes me a while to understand some of his motives behind certain things but I always conclude that he simply has a completely different way of thinking that can be difficult to follow ....

Besides, he also does things for fun and not necessarily because he is supposed to do them. :teehee:

Anyway, hope you'll enjoy the new album!

what worries me isn't "is he being made to do these gimmics?" its "does he want to do these gimmics?" :angel_not:

who knows? it's not like any of us knows the guy.

  10. So lately I've been really annoyed with Mika

I know no one wants to read a thread like this just when we're all excited about the new album but keep reading! It gets better, trust me.

So I’ve just been fed up with all the gimmicks (Mika’s Magic #’s, the “naked vlog” thing). But I found out a couple weeks ago that one of the girls I drive to school with is a Mika fan and I didn’t even know! So she was really excited about the new album and I was excited too, but I still felt the sting of how annoying it had all been lately. I wish I could blindly love Mika like she did (I guess I really am a fan who knows too much). So on the day of the album release when I stopped to pick her up I was sad that I wouldn’t really be able to share her excitement. But then a little song called Waking Up in Vegas by Katy Perry came on the radio, and I remembered this dream I had a couple months ago where Mika and I were just dancing around to this song. And right then, a nanosecond before my friend got into the car, I remembered what I loved about Mika: the fun. And just at the right time I was able to get back to that Mika-loving mood I missed (although it was weird getting there via Katy Perry) and I was finally be able to be as excited as my friend was.

Then I silently thanked about a billion people: Mika, Katy Perry, My friend, the radio DJ who decided to play that song at the opportune moment.

    True story du jour.

  11. :roftl: Did he make an overt statement in Rolling Stone about being gay? I remember them saying he was going to come out in RS months ago but never followed what happened.

I didn't read the article, but there was a picture in it of him holding hands with his boyfriend, so I guess that answers it.

  12. I had another Mika dream last night.:teehee:

In this one, I was at this little candy shop near my house when Mika walked in and started telling everyone to come to his new store instead. I was so confused as to why Mika would want to open a store in my hometown of all places. Somehow Mika heard my thoughts and looked at me with a very disgusted expression on his face and said, "That is none of your business, little girl!" Then I pretended to cry, and he freaked out. He kept begging me not to cry and asked me what he could do to make me stop. I told him to sing for me, and he put on a concert in the middle of the store Then he bought me all kinds of candy and took me to his store which turned out to be..........wait for it......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................a store full of statues made out of cheese. :roftl:

thats hilarious! :roftl: I love crazy dreams!
