Went to see him last night, just wow.

 

His voice is even better live than recorded Purely brilliant. Opening acts (Krystale Warren (?) and Adam Cohen) were almost as good. I met Adam afterwards and he was really nice.

Ooh! Did you get a picture with him, too?

(The bizarre scene at the end for Gay Messiah was slightly questionable though, with Cupid outfits and Greek togas and a giant singing foam panini. I love the song, and the organised stage invasion was a great idea, but it could maybe have been done in better taste Wait... the whole crazy, slightly immature costume thing seems strangely familiar. )

Don't you just hate it when artists do silly things like this! What's next? Someone dressing up their band in animal costumes?

Anyway I agree with what you said. The idea is rather nice (with the fabric waves and all), I love the colour scheme... But Mika's acting and some of the details just made me LOL. The worst part for me was the bad editing when the mermaids and mermen came along and they zoomed in on them very quickly. It just looked tacky as ever.

I went quickly through this thread and some were worried about non-Mika fans not getting the idea of this video and thus not appreciating it. I know I'm a bit biased to say this as I know the story behind it but I really do believe that if you pay attention to the lyrics and what's happening in the video you get a hang of what it's supposed to be about. He fights against the others to keep the sack and once they rob it from him he drowns. Now that combined with "with your love I can breathe underwater"...

I've actually only watched the video once so far so that's really all I can say about it now.

He is not coming to my country and the day he is popular here I start to worry because my country has generally a very bad taste for music

Couldn't agree more. And yes, I do moan about him not coming here but that's only because as a student I can't afford traveling to other countries to see him nor does my study schedule allow it.

I haven't lost all hope of seeing him in Helsinki again though. Loads of indie bands go to unexpected countries. It's only a matter of time and Mika fans are usually kind of used to waiting for things to happen. Then again I've gotten the impression that it's been a while since he's been to other Scandinavian countries (excluding Denmark and forth-coming Iceland), so if whoever organises these things thinks not including the Northern Europe to his tour is a good idea, .

EDIT: Sorry, I do realise I'm a bit off-topic but I just needed to get that out of my system.

I know you're probably joking Marilyn, but that made me laugh. As Rose said, it's already ceased production, for one thing, and for another it was set in Baltimore, and was about the city's lowlifes -- junkies, drug dealers, murderers, corrupt cops, etc. I don't think Mika would have exactly fit in, although the thought of that old pic of Gangsta Mika came to mind.

Oh so there IS an EotS thread on MFC! I've only recently started to like these guys (I obviously did not became interested because of Nick Littlemore ), I've known them for quite a while but I haven't been very fond of Luke's voice before. It's sort of grown on me. We Are the People and Swordfish Hotkiss Night are my favourites at the moment.

As I quickly went through the thread I noticed that someone already mentioned PNAU: they're good, too. I haven't given them that much attention yet but they're certainly interesting.

I'm so excited about this video! I was never really that fond of Underwater before I heard the studio version, I must admit, but now it's one of my favourites from the album.

Woah, am I about to unleash an unpopular opinion!

I only got my copy today and was so excited to see the artwork - I had seen the picture of Mika with the arrows but that's about it.

I'm so, SO disappointed. The front cover is so minimalistic and I think it really suits his new style, too, with the clean haircut and suits and all. Obviously Mika looks fabulous in all the pictures but that's about it for me. I don't like the font and I don't think the black and white photographs go together with the colourful, naïve illustrations at all. The only pages I really like are the ones for MYH, Overrated and Heroes (I have the UK edition, I'm not sure if the booklet is the same for all versions) and that's mainly because I like Mika's expressions in those. Had they all been similar to the LYWID page A. Clay posted I'd find the whole thing a lot more attractive - now I feel like I'll just fold it back neatly and never look at it again.

The record's great, though. I'd rather have unpleasant artwork than an unfinished album.

This is a bit off-topic, but it's something that really bugs me, so I thought I'd mention it while I have the chance.

When people write Marilyn Manson, or if they were to write Marilyn Monroe, they always spell it right, so why do some spell MY name wrong?

Marilyn is always spelled as Mari-lyn, it's never Mary-lin as so many seem to spell my name, which is exactly the same as theirs.

Okay, gripe over. #GladToGetThatOffMyChest

It bothers me to no end when people do this and I'm not even called Marilyn. I've heard about this "Marylin Monroe" a thousand times and it always makes me want to find the nearest table so I can flip it over.
