1. To me THIS is the thing that is most "Mikaish" to me and why I prefer him to so many other artists. I can't stand listening to the same song over and over again. I think Coldplay is one of the most overrated bands in music today. They've been singing the same song for 10 years and it was a song they ripped off from U2 to start with. It's not that I hate the song but I don't understand how you can be a fan of this endless sameiness and want to keep buying it over and over again.

Couldn't agree more, especially with the bolded parts and also about Coldplay being overrated. :naughty:

As I said earlier, some bands can keep making the same songs for years and their music will still sell because they've reached a certain "legendary" status or they've become popular enough. Mika's not there, at least not yet, and to be honest I think he's going to have to work extremely hard to reach that point because his music has a lot of quirky elements that don't automatically appeal to the masses.

He's a very clever songwriter and understands how to construct a hit song though. That's what I like about his melodies: if you stripped them down they'd be really simple but the layers he adds give them an interesting twist. I was worried when he stated that TOOL would be more simple than the previous two albums but I'm liking the new direction a lot so far. We all know he's good at those piano-based pop songs - it's time for something new and fresh and that's what he's done.

  2. The gimmicks were fine to get people's attention but you can't expect anyone to take the music of a 29 year old man seriously with little pink cartoon girls with lollipops on the cover.

I'm sorry but the idea of this actually happening cracked me up. :lmfao:

In all seriousness though, I agree. I'm still not overly impressed with the new cover but I really do think it suits the new direction he's taking his music to. It's simple and clean and when I think of e.g. MYH the picture fits the song perfectly. The pictures of Mika in the LICM cover booklet do the exact opposite for me - they make him look like a folk singer and don't represent his music in any way. The artwork having illustrations of Billy Brown, Lollipop girl etc. make sense since they're one of his characters but I'm glad that this time he's feeling confident enough to talk about himself instead of other, fictional or non-fictional, people.

All in all I've liked Mika's album artwork so far but it's time to move on. I recently had a similar conversation about something else with my brother and told to him that I don't understand why someone would want to see something that's been done a million times. Having a distinctive style is necessary if you don't want to be a one hit wonder but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to get out of your comfort area and evolve as an artist. Some musicians may be able to make the same records over and over again and still continue being successful because they've already reached a certain status but that isn't the case with Mika.

  3. I just had one of the most bizarre Mika dreams ever.

I dreamed that I was going to Mika's gig with Mika. He was with me in the audience but we talked about another Mika who was supposed to perform there. While we were waiting for the show to begin we talked about how adorable the performer Mika was on the PDP dvd, we held hands and apparently I had a huge crush on him. Later performer Mika's dad came on stage and started playing the piano and singing Mika's songs. When he played Relax and Grace Kelly I sat on a chair and Mika sat on my lap. I wrapped my arms around him and started bouncing him like you would bounce a small child sitting on your lap.

  4. much different than

I had already forgotten about these - I like the new cover a lot more, even with the golden blobs. :naughty: At least it's something that suits his new image. His style is a lot more simple these days and I think another cartoon cover combined with his newly found grown-up ways would send a contradictory message.

I can't help but stare at the cover, it's a stunning picture of him. His philtrum is beautifully defined. :wub2::teehee:

  5. Okay, changing the subject slightly... but I am interested in what this thread thinks. :biggrin2:

The Catholic Church in Scotland are all annoyed with the Scottish government who are keen on legalising gay marriage.

This being on the news reminded me that someone commented the other day - "straight people care more than gay people that gay marriage is legalised".

    IS THIS TRUE?

    DISCUSS.

Your question immediately reminded me of this:

    TheDifferenceBetweenTattooedPeopleAndNonTattooedPeople-12257.jpg

    :naughty:

I know I've posted this earlier already but it pretty much summarizes my thoughts about marriage, so here you go.

"These people who are making a big deal out of gay marriage? I don't give a f*** about who wants to get married to anobody else. Why not?! We're making a big deal out of things be shouldn't be making a big deal out of. They go on and on with all this bulls*** about 'sanctity'. Don't give me that sanctity c***! Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want."

EDIT: I know the quote is about gay marriage, but it describes my thoughts about marriage in general pretty well. If someone wants to get married - fine, it's not like it's any of my business. I just don't see myself getting married.

  6. That's the song I was looking forward to the most! I was afraid it wasn't going to be on the album!

+1! :teehee: I can't wait to hear it.

    OMG, thank you !! :thumb_yello:

I wonder which version of the CD it is.. the UK or US one, I guess as the CD features Emily and not "Elle me dit"...

It says "UK/ROW version" in the top bit, I don't know what ROW stands for though. :dunno:

  7. Def YAY!!!:wub2::wub2:

i love her voice - just this song is waay too short :sneaky2:

    got more songs? :mikadas:

    :boing:

Did you check out her Soundcloud profile? :teehee:

She's also made an announcement that this will be the next single:

I was so glad to hear about it because it's my favourite from the whole album. :fangurl: I hope there's going to be video for the song!

  8. I need to disagree here. Everything you are DEFINE your identity. If you are gay, it defines your identity.

Agreed. :thumb_yello: I think some people may even find their sexual orientation as the most important factor when it comes to their identity and views on themselves. I don't think there's anything wrong with that either nor is it a lesser part of one's identity than nationality, for example.

  9. So do you think Mika is wearing Bob-constricting undies in your sig, or Bob-enhancing undies in the pic I posted? Or perhaps Bob can swell and shrink like Mika’s fame? :das:

I think Mika's been doing these:

    bootcamp-squat-hold.jpg

He's well buff these days. :mikadas:

  10. cool! it'll feel better in no time, once u avoid smacking it :naughty:

Ironically enough my best friend smacked it just days after I got it pierced. :naughty: The left tragus has been by far the most difficult piercing to heal but it's doing well now and I love it to bits.

In other news, I have had to retire my labret piercing. My heart weeps. :tears:

  11. My mum watched the whole interview at Rock The Games with me today, which was more than 20 minutes. Thing is, she doesn't understand a word in English (and I didn't force her to watch it, I swear :teehee: ). So when I asked her why did she watch it, she said

"I just like watching his face, alright? "

    ...Mika fan in making. :mikadas:

I showed her the Celebrate video, and I was like "So what do you think about the video, do you like it?" and she said "It's good."

    ....

"OKAY HE'S SO CUTE ALL THE TIME IT'S IMPOSSIBLE."

    Welcome to the Mikaworld, mum!:mikadas:

    Your mum rocks! :lmfao:

When I got TBWKTM my mum was visiting me and I had Rain playing in the background. I had just gotten the album and I paid next to nothing for it so I was really excited.

Me: Guess how much I paid for this record!

    My mum: Hopefully not much!

... I guess it's safe to say my mum will not be joining yours. :naughty:

  12. I'm so happy about this video! It's actually made me like the song a lot more than I initially did. :naughty: I haven't been crazy about Celebrate because I feel like I've heard it a million times before but I hoped that seeing the video would help me change my mind.

Last night before I went to bed I had an irrational fear that there would be a scene of Mika raising two fingers at the point where he sings "I remember those two letters" - I'm so glad they didn't do that! :aah:

  13.

Ei herranjumala noita Rumban kommentteja. "Uutinen sukupuolisesta suuntautuneisuudesta osui ällistyttävästi levynjulkaisun alle"? :sneaky2:

:naughty:

  14. I saw a lot of unpleasant comments about bisexuality, saying that it does not exist that is an excuse for not wanting homosexuals to their coming out as gay. And those added "bi now gay tomorrow". I found it shocking and more shocking is that people who wrote these things were on a community blog BGLT:doh:

I talked about this on the gay thread once. It's ridiculous how, even inside their own community, some people feel the need to judge others and question their sincerity. LGBT people are a minority and to me, the ideal situation would be that they could all support each other instead of wondering whether someone is actually gay or bi.

    :huglove:

Suppose we'll have to prove them the opposite? But yeah, I get the reaction. Remember one of the first people I told saying (without meaning to insult me as well): Oooh, so you butter your bread on both sides? And I was thinking, have you met me? I don't butter my bread whatsoever XD

    Best comeback ever! :lmfao:

You're right, there is a need to prove people wrong when it comes to bisexuality. Some just don't seem to understand that there's a lot more than sex when it comes to being attracted to someone - romantic feelings are involved too.
