  1. I love this video/film/movie/whatever you want to call it. :wub2:

I'm not going to quibble over the terminology. Maybe they called it a film vs a video, because that gives it a little more weight, makes it seem a little more important than a promotional video. :dunno: Yes, I did originally expect something more along the lines of the Origin of Love video, but after seeing this, I'm not at all disappointed. I love this for so many reasons. For the stripped down look, as you say, Sylvie, and the dramatic, atmospheric feeling that black & white lends to the whole thing. But most of all because it's just Mika, not hiding behind any other characters or props, not pretending to be anything other than himself. He's not awkward in any way, not mugging for the camera. He just seems very natural, very sincere and genuine. I'm not saying that he's not aware of how affecting and moving this performance is. I'm sure he is. But he looks directly into the camera as if he's looking directly at a single person in the audience -- you, the viewer. As if you and he are the only ones there in that moment. And he totally sells the song. At least, it totally works for me. Call me a :fangurl: but I think it's fantastic.

I agree with everything, well said. Personally, I'm glad it's not a real short film because I don't like short films. I said it in the Last Party song discussion thread, but I think this video is so intense. He has that look in his eyes, it's strong, but vulnerable. Genuine, like you said. At the line "Wrap your arms around everybody", when he reaches out to the camera, to me as a viewer, it makes me feel like he could hug me. It feels so personal.

On another note, I hope they will upload it to youtube, I think that would make it accessible to more people.

  2. There's something off with me.

I didn't like his performance, which is weird cause I usually love how he acts on stage, but I was looking at him and thinking "where's the feeling I used to get watching him singing...." :tears:

I agree.. I don't know, I got the feeling that he wasn't 100% into it? I also felt like he had some trouble singing it. Maybe he'll get better performing this song as it was only the first time performing it.

Edit: No I watched it again, it's not that he has trouble singing it, it's that the backup vocals and the instruments are louder than he is in the chorus.

  3. I love the review on Music News. I left a comment!

Yes it's great! I love how praising it is: "Mika's fourth album 'No Place In Heaven' is a striking record that has been crafted by Mika over the past two years. Mika enlisted long-time collaborator and Grammy nominated producer Gregg Wells (Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Adele, Rufus Wainwright) to produce the new album. The pair creating a mature new record that exhibits Mika's incredible song writing talents and breath-taking vocals, evoking memories of classic 70s pop albums created by acclaimed song writers Billy Joel, Todd Rundgren, Elton John etc."

  4. He may have done it on purpose but... there is an awful spelling mistake in the title of the French track... :aah:

Yes I was thinking that, I'm not French, but shouldn't it be "veut" instead of "veux"? Maybe it's the Dutch iTunes that messed up though, I don't want to point the finger to Mika immediately :naughty:

  5. Not sure as I can't listen to it right now but with my accent the "body" part of "everybody" and "buddy" are pronounced the same.

I am finding Mika's phrasing generally bizarre in this song - rhyming "ya" and "to"?? Think I will much prefer live versions than this recording. His voice is pretty though and the lyrics are very good. :thumb_yello:

I feel like "body" is pronounced a bit longer than "buddy" - "booody" vs. "boddy" (maybe even more like "baaady" and "baddy")

So I think it's everybody and not every buddy, because he stretches and emphasises that vowel..

  6. :thumb_yello: Thank you Nina for telling this! :huglove: Both my hubby and daughter, home for Eastern holiday now, agree that this is a truly beautiful song!:wub2: For me it's like x-mas eve, cause TLP is a clear fav. since the first time I heard it :fisch::blush-anim-cl:

I wish all MFCers happy Eastern holidays - with new MIKA music...:mikalove:

    Love,love

    me

I agree! Sometimes you just hear that song that is like love at first sight, and this song is one of those songs for me. :wub2: I never stop loving those songs that manage to make me fall in love when I listen to them for the first time. :blush-anim-cl:

Happy Easter holidays to you too! :huglove:

  7. I've some news for this album :teehee:

The album will be launched in Italy by the single "Good Guys" in early May.

The fourth album, "No Place In Heaven" comes at the end of two years of intense creative work of the artist.

Mika has produced the new album in collaboration with Gregg Wells.

The result is a more mature album, revealing the writing talent of the artist and highlights the vocal skills of Mika, recalling in particular the great classics of the '70s pop album of Billy Joel, Todd Rundgren, Elton John , etc.

Last Party is an ode dedicated to Freddie Mercury and it will be accompanied by a video shot by Peter Lindbergh.

That sounds great! Thanks for sharing! Any information yet about when that video will be released?

  8. :woot_jump:

I can't stop listening to Last Party, it's such a beautiful song in my opinion.

The title "Oh Girl You're The Devil" made me think of Instant Martyr.. :naughty: Really curious about all the songs! And I think it's a smart choice not to put any French songs on the normal international edition of the album.

By the way, the title of the thread and the tag of the thread say "No Place LIKE Heaven", but it's "No Place IN Heaven"
