  1. Okay, someone got it right... But I'm not saying who.

But here's a clue from my version of the lyrics.

    I washed it carefully

But it broke in pieces (93)

    Now I think it's porcelaine too :D

I think it's Porcelain too :wink2: If it turns out to be something else, you really have fooled us :teehee:

From your lyrics, it seems my idea was the other side of the story:

How could you break my cup

    It was my favourite cup

How will I drink my tea

When there's no cup for me

    You always drop my stuff

    Right now I've had enough

    Buy me another cup

    This has to stop

    :naughty:

  2. But your drawings are amazing! I love how you do those shadows Laura, that is quite some skill, wow! And Emelyne I adore how you made him grey and the necklaces in colour, very cool!

This is an amazing thread, everyone makes such great things ????

  3.

Turning blue means you can't breathe. Anaphylaxis happens when someone has a severe allergy and can make it difficult to breathe.

I literally cannot find that meaning anywhere through Google. And I don't think that makes a lot of sense... Anyway, I said it was my interpretation and that's the nice thing about music, it can be interpreted in different ways :wink2:

  4. Hold on, I'm reading this entire discussion about whether or not Mika is allergic to peanuts, but I interpreted the lyric a bit differently..

"Give me a peanut and I'll turn blue, I can't even eat the things you do"

I thought it meant that the ex eats a lot of peanuts and that every time Mika (or the other way around, if it's from the ex's perspective) sees/eats a peanut he's reminded of the other one so he 'turns blue'. He can't eat peanuts because they remind him of his ex.

  5. :) To save money,  for a MIKA concert is, imo, the smartest thing you can do!  I don't think my alb.is a deluxe version - just an ordinary one, so I was very surprised, and very happy,  when ALL the lyrics of the 14 tracks were in the inlay! :fisch:  In fact there's 15 tracks, because "Good Guys"  also has a "night time mix" - which is so cool  :teehee:  My ordered deluxe version will be delivered this month, I've been told.  This one is for my car - cause, like many of his fans, I like to have him available "everywhere"  If you're wondering about any other lyric, feel free to ask - I'll be more than happy if I can help you with it! :)

Btw, you have picked a superfunny  lyric for your pic - really clever!! :naughty:

    Love,love

    me

If your album has 15 tracks, it's the deluxe version :wink2: the normal version of the album only has 11 tracks. There are several more even "deluxer" versions, like the limited edition one that you've probably ordered, but your 15 track cd is still a deluxe version!

  6. So, has anyone else been inspired to learn languages because of Mika? I learned French in school... and then promptly forgot it as soon as I graduated. (I grew up in Upstate NY, and it seemed a logical choice. Then I moved south, because: SNOW.) But now I want to be able to watch The Voice without needing to find subtitles and use translator apps and stuff so, I'm relearning it! I'm using this app called DuoLingo. It's going fairly well.

Same here! I forgot a lot of French as well. Thankfully my graduation wasn't that long ago (three years now) so when I started watching The Voice last year it came back very quickly. I'm glad because I'd love to get much better in French (I don't know if (European?) language levels mean anything to you, but our graduation level was B1 so I've got a long way to go.) The subtitling team helps, though :)

  7. The pronunciation sounds like him to me. Particularly noticeable on the word "boy" at the end of the song. Or am I just delusional?  :teehee:

Either way, it's in my top 3 (along with Good Wife and All She Wants)

I agree. It sounds like the way he sings and pronounces things. But I might share your delusions :aah:

But it sounds like the same voice as on Promiseland, and there all vocals were done by Mika.

  8. I hear "i'm pulling but my heart is on the wire", any idea what the official lyrics say? My version of the album didnt include lyrics

Thought I'd check and... the official lyrics do say "I'm pulling but my heart is on the wire" :aah:

And here I was just blaming Mika for his weird pronounciation  (sorry Mika!)

    Good ear :thumb_yello:

  9. And I'm really happy on your behalf - thing seems to go the right way in the UK!! :thumb_yello::fisch: Here is nothing - NPIH is not mentioned anywhere, no reviews in the newspapers, no promo, like the alb. wasn't released - I can't believe it...

I bought my alb. in Denmark, while on holiday - and I love it to bits!!:fisch: Really look forward to the ordered deluxe version, which I'll have during next month, acc. to received mail... :teehee:

    Love,love

    me

    Love,love

    me

Same here. I'm glad it made the top 20 in the UK! However, here it's down to number 53. I don't hear anything on the radio, no promo here, nada. People don't even know he's alive :(

I thought promo in the UK would help, but maybe I just need to have a little more patience.

  10.

Mika is not and never has been only a singer, he is a songwriter and he has said many times that he considers essentially a songwriter. His words/lyrics are him, what he feels at that moment and his way of expressing it, to express himself and it is what distinguishes him and his music.
Is he or are his lyrics perfect? No, of course, but I prefer innumerable/countless times his "imperfection" than the "comfortable" or "better", or whatever people call it (but from what perspective?) songs and lyrics of many other writers.
Obviously this is just my opinion.

I agree, with something as subjective as music or even creative writing: what does 'better' mean anyway?

Music, as all art forms, simply is a matter of taste. I admire Mika as a singer who writes his own songs, more than I would have if he were just a singer who sang other people's songs. As long as he's not being lazy in the songwriting (like, repeating the verse and chorus constantly as in Big Girl - I'm not a fan of that song), he's always written what he feels is genuine, and that's the most important thing to me. I understand that some singer-songwriters write more poetic or eloquent, but I could listen to them as well when I want to. As for Mika, like any artist, as long as he writes from the heart, you can feel that it's genuine and that's what I search for in musicians that I listen to and look up to.

  11. Mika is speaking with kinda strooooong British accent here.... I love him changing in this way whenever get interviewed by UK press  :teehee:

Damn I've been so missed this accent!!  :naughty:

Yes I agree! Love the accent! Thank you all for posting the interviews here, I'm so happy he is doing promo in the UK as I was starting to be afraid that he wouldn't... Now I can catch up on all the interviews! :)

  12. I just found the clip of the cover of Grace Kelly of the Dutch singer Simon. http://www.een.be/programmas/sing-that-song/simon-grace-kelly

No far as impressive as the original but not bad. I understand why the song got my attention so i started searching for it and for this singer Mika that i'd never heard of until then.

By the way, is there a thread for Mika covers or are we only going for the real stuff?

Okay that was interesting.... For everyone that doesn't know, this Simon is extremely well-known here as a duo with a guy named Nick and they usually sing Dutch songs :teehee:  I kept laughing at his "gotta be gween, gotta be mean", sorry :naughty:

But thank you for posting, I had never seen that before! His vocals are good, as it's such a hard song to sing!

  13. I don't think it's out already, if I remember it well he said the other version will come out in a few months, this version being the 'simple one' or something (or did I understood wrong?) . So maybe it is just planned as a next single, or I kind of had this theory (which is probably just due to my brain overloading and will never happen) that the other version is recorded with symphonic and will be used to promote the osm album. Or not, but it worked well in my mind :D

Yes you're right, he said in the Italian track by track video that the version on the album is the stripped-down version, and there's a different version which we'll apparently get to hear in a few months. He did not specify when, but Melyssa, I so love your theory

  14. It's been almost a year - come back to life, weird little thread!

It is quite a funny little thread! I'll help bringing it back to life.

My name is Manon, 21 years old and I live in the Netherlands. I am a student at the University of Amsterdam but I'm almost done with that and getting my bachelor's degree as soon as I've finished and passed my thesis! Then if I'm admitted, I'll do a master in Translation next year, and if I'm not admitted, I'll do a different master the year after that. Not sure what that would be, yet. As a part time job I stock the shelves at a supermarket, but in a month I need to find another job because they can't continue my contract without offering me a permanent job (that's some stupid law here after two times a temporary contract) so yeah. I hope to find something nice.

I think my greatest wish is both the simplest and the hardest one: to be happy. The problem is that I'm not quite sure what I want in life, what would make me happy. But I'll do my best to find it :)

  15. Thank you!!! For some reason my quote doesn't include the names. Anyone knows the writer behind NPIH? And how much I love seeing Teemu Brunila there, that tiny connection to my country (doesn't happen often!).

No Place In Heaven: MIKA, Clarence Coffe Jr & Rob Wells

I thought what they meant was if someone actually knew any of their previous works?

I found this while googling Clarence Coffe Jr: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monsters_and_the_Strangerz

And this is Rob Wells: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Wells

But I personally wasn't familiar with their names before.
