National Rice Cake Day.

Enjoy...

Rice_Cakes.jpg

Preparation, uses, and tips

Spread whole-grain rice cakes with

tuna salad or almond butter and honey,

try them with spreadable soya cheese,

or top with low-fat cheese and a slice of tomato,

then broil for a fast open-face sandwich.

Sorry, just can't get excited 'bout this one!

only less filling."

VARIATION: KOREAN RICE CAKES--

2895.png

At the Itaewon·Hannam Global Village Center

a Korean cultural experience

is the making of Korean rice cake called ddok.

There are many different varieties of ddok,

they often make a type called Baram Ddok.

It is made by folding the rice cake into various shapes

and the filling is a sweet red bean paste.

Making ddok is a lot of fun and it is a delicious treat.

Parents bring their children along and are able to

take home the ddok that they make during Ddok class

to share with family and friends.

What do you take when you have minor pain? Asprin? Tylenol? Advil?

According to new research, all you need to do relieve that twinge in your lower back or

mild throb in your wrist is think about food.

Healthbolt once posted this and it got me thinking.

There's a study that suggests that thinking about food you find delicious can help manage pain.

But could I really just fantasize about, say, corned beef and cabbage, and poof,

my headache is gone?

I'm sure that example is pushing it a little, but still.

Maybe I'm not giving this idea a chance, though.

There's a lot to be said about the power of the mind.

What's your opinion about the idea of thinking of food as a pain reliever?

Emotional Eating

ice+cream.jpg

"Strawberries are the angels of the earth,

innocent and sweet with green leafy wings reaching heavenward."

~Jasmine Heiler

We’ve all heard the term comfort food, and each of us probably have our “favorite” comfort food, such as ice cream, chocolate, or some favorite food that may have a significant memory attached to it. And with that warm memory comes a warm and cozy feeling when enjoying that particular food. Often that particular food may be a food full of calories—sugar, fat, etc.

Dr. Judith Orloff has an interesting perspective on over-eating. It is often said that emotional issues can play a role but I don’t believe I have heard it explained in regards to those of us who are intuitive and consciously or unconsciously use food as a buffer against negative energy.

Do you do that at times? ...maybe after a phone call from a family member or friend that seems to have lots of negativity...and after ending the conversation do you head to the kitchen for a “snack?” Or after a disagreement with someone?
