happy ending xxx

hi everyone,

I have loved Mika since i first heard the first album, I fell in love with lollipop and played it all the time.

My kids love it too ..... it always cheered everyone up and got them singing in the car...

My wife was a huge fan too..... she loved big girls..... even though she was a 4ft 5 size 6.... lol.

On july 1st, my wife and 3yr old girl had a car crash..... my wife died instantly at the scene but my little girl was taken to great ormand street hospital...... she faught really hard for over a week with family and friends urging her to be brave.

unfortunately it was just too much for her and, on one evening i felt a huge presence of my wife by the bedside.... and as i held my little girls hand i felt she had been given the chance to go and be with her mummy.

In the time at the hospital between my wife and daughter dying... i got my wifes ipod from the car and started to listen to the 1000 songs on shuffle.

3 or 4 songs in ...... i heard happy ending....... it touched me in the most amazing way....... it is a song i dont even remember from the album even though i had listened to it 100s of times....... but it summed up everything i felt and feel since......

I ended up using this song for the funeral and it worked so well in a way that made everyone feel at ease with the loss of their friend/sister/niece/daughter/cousin/grandaughter etc..... I love it every time I hear it !!!! x

Anyway.... I am desperate to find out now what MIKA was thinking when HE wrote the song ...... even down to the hint of hope with the " little bit of love" repatitions towards the end.

i would love to hear from any of you on your thoughts or even how to ask the man himself.. xxxxxxx

all my love to u all

Paulx

Hi Paul,

Thank you so much for sharing something so personal with us. My heart goes out to you and your other child.

At the same time it warms my heart to know how much music - in this case Mika's music - can help you cope with the cruelty of life.

I guess Happy Ending means different things to each of us and, to tell you the truth, I would not really want to know any details of what exactly was going on in Mika's mind when writing the lyrics. It would take away the beauty of having my own personal interpretation of it.

However, one thing is for sure: even though the story itself does not have a happy ending, the lyrics and the music most definitely evoke a positive outlook for the future.

Hope you will hear it one day performed live at one of his gigs - it is a cathartic experience.:blush-anim-cl:

PS: Keep posting here - you are most welcome

Hey Paul thats a very sad story , welcome btw

Heres some info for you :

Mika described the story behind the song in an interview with the Sun newspaper February 2, 2007: "It's about a few things. In a way, it's a kind of sad break-up song like 'My Interpretation.' But, at the same time, it's about a lot of other things. I'll never forget when I was actually recording this song in Los Angeles, I would take this drive from where I was staying to the studio, which wasn't in the city and the amount of homeless people I saw on the way was absolutely shocking. Those horrible images of homelessness that I would see every morning really connected with that song. So it just comes to show you that a bright song in a certain mindset had a meaning that really evolves and changes as time goes by. I think that it is very important that other listeners find their own meaning to songs. So many people are very openly suggestive to the point of being abstract. It's the most powerful thing when that becomes the song."

I'm sorry to hear about your wife and daughter Paul, though I'm glad you've joined us

This is the interview where Mika talks about the song- it doesn't add anything to what Freddie already said, though, as it's mostly tech stuff about making the vid

Hey Paul

I feel so sorry for you reading what you had to deal with. As being a mother and big Mikafan myself I can completely understand what you're going through and what you feel. I am glad to see you joined MFC and I am sure your wife would appreciate this a lot.

I wish you all the best and hope Mika can give you a good feeling when you listen to his music...

Big hug xx

God bless you Paul. My prayers will be with you.

Mika's songs are so multi layered, they mean different things to each of us, and remind each of us of events in our lives which either made us sad, or happy, or both.

No one can bring back the family you lost, no one can replace them, but the MFC are here for you. Welcome to Mika's fan club family.
