AnnaMariaPetra
Yes, we took India around 1500, D. Manuel was the King by then, you must have heard about Vasco da Gama, the sailor??? And it lasted until mainly Goa, the main territory, we lost it due to both Indian Independence War and Portugal's 1975 Revolution and Colonial War... Yes, heard of him. Better: in my hometown we have streets named after e.g. Vasco da Gama, Willem Barents, Amundsen etc. Portugal had a King? Not anymore nowadays? Became a civilian or did he die? Because Holland is country of explorers, we take interest in them. Therefor we know Columbus, Marco Polo and ehm....can't think of any other foreign explorer right now.

AnnaMariaPetra
I just remember: I have a poetry booklet (kids used to have one for every friend and family member to write a poem in) and long long time ago my uncle had a Brazilian girlfriend. She wrote smt in Portuguese (Brazilian), never knew what she wrote. I will look for the album tomorrow and will try to post it here for translation. (woohee: the secret could be revealed after 30-something years!) (I also have a poem in Chinese, written by his current wife, she from Beijng. But that'll be harder to copy I gather...)
