Eclectic band of nominees for MTV awards

What do pop star Justin Timberlake, former immigration minister Kevin Andrews, and Melbourne party pest Corey Worthington have in common? They have all been nominated for gongs at the 2008 MTV Australia Awards.

Politicians, pranksters, film stars, trouble-makers, socially conscious organisations and Grammy Award winners are all in the running to take home a gong at the newly revamped awards.

Voting opens today on seven of the 10 award categories ahead of the awards on April 26.

Sneaky Sound System, Silverchair, Delta Goodrem, The Veronicas and Operator Please are all nominated for the Australian artist music award.

Battling it out in the music video of the year category are Fergie, Mika, Delta Goodrem, Foo Fighters and 50 Cent featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.

In one of the more unconventional categories, the television moment award, Corey Worthington’s A Current Affair interview will be up against Snoop Dogg’s MTV citizenship campaign, The Chaser's War On Everything’s APEC stunt, skateboarder Jake Brown’s X-Games 45ft (15 metre) stack and stand, and A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila.

Happy to extend his 15 minutes of fame, Worthington said he was pleased to be up against fellow bad boy Snoop Dogg.

“It’s cool to be considered for an MTV award, and to be included in such great company,” he said.

“My vote's for one of my favourite acts, Snoop Dogg. I'd love to meet him.”

With a category all to himself, Kevin Andrews received four separate nominations for the bad karma award.

Andrews was nominated for banning 2007 MTV awards invitee Snoop Dogg from entering Australia, as well as for defining “bad hair day”.

On the other side of the karma coin, nominees for the good karma award include the Sea Shepherd crew of the Steve Irwin, Earth Hour, Movember, and the young people of Australia who believed in the national apology.

Kiwi artists also get their own category, with Opshop, Scribe, The Mint Chicks, Atlas and The Checks vying for the best New Zealand artist award.

Nominees for the live performance award include Foo Fighters, Justin Timberlake, Pink, Lupe Fiasco, as well as Juliette & the Licks who will attend this year's awards along with rapper Eve.

Three other categories that are not voted on by the public are the MTV recognition awards for sports person, international music act, and TV/film actor.

The 2008 awards ceremony will feature eight performances and 10 awards and will be held at a new “gritty” location at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney.

Oi! How did you find this and not me! :naughty: Would this article have been printed in today's paper? Damn ... I wonder if they still sell papers the next day ... I wonder if I would seriously buy a paper I have no interest in for one measly sentence ... :mf_rosetinted::naughty:

Uhh, okay some kind of delay (it *is* the 13th of March here)

But here's the link for when it starts working: http://www.mtvawards.com.au/vote.aspx

...

Meanwhile Chas Licciardello quipped, "I really hope we don't beat Corey Worthington, exposing a flaw in APEC security is much easier than exposing the humanity of a current affairs show host."

:naughty: Love the Chaser, they had better beat that dimwit.
