Channel NewsAsia's Roland Lim caught up with the star in Hong Kong, where he treated fans to a showcase performance. With a vocal range of five octaves and a classical music background, when 24 year-old Lebanese-born Mika struts his stuff on-stage, he is a world away from his operatic roots. Voted the Best Sound of 2007 in a BBC music poll, the singer-songwriter's first single 'Grace Kelly' topped the charts in the U.K. and took the No.2 spot in the U.S. He is now out to prove he is no one-hit wonder, with his album 'Life In Cartoon Motion'. "I had a lot of support making it, a huge amount of freedom which is quite rare for a major label artist, especially first time artists. This is my debut album but it is me, 100 per cent me and I didn't compromise on one thing," says Mika. Many have compared Mika's sound to Queen, Freddie Mercury, Elton John, and George Michael. "My influences were everything…from Arabic music to flamenco music to electronic music to reggae. To Queen, to bits of the Beatles, because of course, anyone my age can't live a day without being subjected to at least three Beatles references…and hence I'm kinda numb to it. I am a sum of all my influences, I won't deny that but did I calculate to sound like anyone? Absolutely not," says Mika. At the age of 11, Mika got his first job, which was singing in the chorus of a Strauss opera in London in the London Opera House. From there he went on to do solo recordings with the Opera House and contemporary music all over Europe, as well as even singing on chewing gum commercials. Branching out to pop music allowed him to be the creative artist he craved to be: "I was always writing songs because I'm dyslexic, so I can't read music. I dropped out to make pop records because I didn't want to be an interpreter my whole life and you do classical music, you are an interpreter your whole life. I wanted to be able to write my own songs, create my own circus, which is exactly what I've done." Its cool.. we all fully expected that some pics would get leaked! It was filmed in a very open space with lots of public about!! So even Mika and his people couldnt stop photos being taken We all did have a fab time.. I am sunburnt from standing outdoors all day.. we all worked soooo hard and were all absolutely shattered... met at 8am at Victoria station and got home at 11pm...!!

its understandable.. .. if other people decide to post things then its up to them.....I just want mika to know it wasnt me or some of the other MFCers that were there who decided we wouldnt share too much.. I dont want him to be mad with me!!

I heard he was furious about that jetski photo... its hard being a celeb! And Mika is really only quite new to it all! He has been so busy touring and promoting that the paps are soo desperate to catch him during his down time! It's a shame that the paps can be such vultures... I wouldnt want to see pap photos here.. if its in the papers or gossip mags then fine.. but I dont think we need to share them here.

Annoyingly someone has posted some pics on a thread in news section.... I know we cant stop people from posting their photos or photos found on the web as this is an open forum... just disappointed that it may ruin the suprise.. and I dont want us to get in trouble with Mikas people... I know everyone gets excited about this and want to know what happened and appreciate that people that were not there would want to share anything they find on the net. Some of the shots look like they were taken from someone on the street.. so can't blame them for putting them up...........

Am disappointed that these pics were found and posted... might get in trouble with mikas people cos the vids not released.. I know we cant stop anyone from posting pics..posted by the people that were extras or people that were on the street..... we that were thre wanted to preserve the suprise... oh well.. These shots may not be used cos there are people in shot in the background anyway....

I hope that everyone will understand!! We all had a lovely day.. but it was really hard work and I am exhausted!!! The finished vid will be great, colourful and fun! Mika was great on set, very relaxed and friendly and also very focused on what he wanted. Met all the lovely MFC crew! We all had a giggle and helped each other through it A day I will remember for a long time!! I feel very very lucky!! will talk more when its released!! Sorry folks! Please dont hate me! xx

hi everyone.. i know it sounds really mean and cruel. Everyone wants to know what went on today!! I personally would like to keep it a secret so that it can be a big surpise We all worked very hard today!! I think it will have a greater impact if we stayed quiet and we would have lots to talk about when the video is released!!!.. We dont even know which bits will be used!! Sorry!! I forgot to ask when the video would be finished.. so we will just have to wait!!

can't sleep too excited... am exhausted from late nights and early starts this week!.. not even decided what to wear!!! eeeeeek!!!!

Am so excited.. though I emailed Shaded Glam to tell them that my sister could not make it after all (before the emails from jaynecollins came in) My feeling is that Shaded Glam helping to get people for jaynecollins. My sis got the email from jaynecollins anyway, but she not had the chance to reply, they just called her to check if she was still going and she told them no and the woman was apparently really rude!! Anyway.. still excited about tomo... will be bringing 2 mates

Yaaay! I'm in too... weird.. cos i got confirmation from someone at Jayne Collins Casting.. even though i got the other email earlier from them about not needing anyone. My sister got an email too from them confirming details and she didnt email anyone.. i gave her details to Shaded Glam!! anyway! who cares!?? I'm coming toooooooooooooooo!

oh dear.... its still chaos isnt it?? I am size 14/16... so hope they will still pick me.. I wish someone would give us a proper update!!

Yep.. me too..my friends start to roll their eyes when I talk about Mika.. which used to annoy me..I find it rude.. its something I am excited and happy about! Why can't they support me? I just roll my eyes at what ever they start obsessing about now.. and talk to fellow Mika loving people like yourselves
