  1. This is slightly off-topic, but it is interesting to read if you were involved in the discussion on this thread about record companies, different ways of releasing material, etc. As far as I am concerned, if things do go t*** up for Mika vis-a-vis his record company we shouldn't worry. There are so many other ways for artists with ambition, talent, fanbase and the creativity to make it work Credit to southeast for sending me the link to this, by the way. http://www.indexoncensorship.org/2010/09/radiohead-copyright-freespeech-music/
  2. Any fans of BBC's Merlin out there?? I know we have at least one or two people here on MFC who watch it . So I hope to see a few contributions here from others (or shall I just post endless pics of Colin Morgan here, all by myself...either way it's fine )
  3. Always great to see new fans here on the coolest non-Mika thread on MFC Kids IS a great song, and very addictive. It was the first MGMT song I ever heard. From there I got into Time To Pretend, then Electric Feel, then the whole of Oracular Spectacular, then their early EPs, and thus onto Congratulations..and as different as all those songs are, I love them all equally. What I'm saying is, 'Kids' is a great starting point for discovering everything else they have to offer, and a word of advice: some of their very best songs require a few listens to appreciate and not all are as immediately catch as Kids, but honestly, once they get into your brain, it's love .
  4. I always think Matt looks like a nice guy. Hope I am lucky enough to meet him (and the others of course:mf_rosetinted:) on the 26th.
  5. Aha yes, I picked up on that quote too, and I actually think they have done that in a sense (got really famous and then knocked themselves down again to a more cult level) by the way they approached the second album. If that makes sense...sorry, I am about to go to bed, it's late . I love that And of course: 46. That they care. 47. That they don't care. OMG By that time I will be ANCIENT!!! I'll probably still find them kinda cute though . In fact I know I will
  6. I'm happy to tell you that Radiohead have an album coming out in a few months . I hope they'll do a tour next year. But I kind of worry about them too, now, as they've been around for so long now and aren't getting any younger ( I should know, I'm the same age as them! lol). Although I think the last album was superb, so I know they still have a passion for making music. As for MGMT, it's hard to predict what they'll do next, isn't it? I wonder what the next album will sound like?
  7. Hi!!

I saw you were online and I was just thinking the same, that we haven't spoken in ages. How are you? Your studies?

    I'm fine thanks.

Yes, PV are coming to England AGAIN and I can't go AGAIN :naughty:. It's just that it's always in bloody London, and with my family commitments etc I just haven't got the money or time!! It's so annoying. I wish I was young and single again etc etc and able to go and do these things with no worries.

Karen and I have been really frustrated that they've been to London twice this year already and we couldn't go. We were so sad that for a while we couldn't even speak about it...lmfao!

I swear to you though..one day I WILL GO TO SEE THEM!!! lol

btw did you love Mika in Riga??

  8. Ooh that's a good find! Thanks. I bet their old college gigs were so funny. I love the videos on Youtube of some of them..the dinosaur mask etc..they really make me laugh. Totally agree with you all, he is a really great lyricist. He can write story lyrics (TTP), funny lyrics (Brian Eno) and obscure or "lyrical" lyrics (Metanoia/SB) and seems equally at ease with any of those styles. I especially love the way you can find your own interpretation of some of his words, Siberian Breaks for example. And even when the lyrics sometimes tip over into nonsense or deliberate ironic weirdness (Metanoia springs to mind ), they still sound great. I'm so glad someone else has this fear too! It always feels to me as if they might suddenly decide to quit music through boredom, and I can never put my finger on why I feel that way, but you've expressed it well: they are moving quite quickly through different styles and stages, like a speeded up version of a rock group's history, or so it seems. I hope we're wrong
  9. Less than four weeks now until I see MGMT (I might be going to see Violens too on 1st October.) As for the Congratulations video...yes it's very strange and moving. I always get the impression their videos are based on weird dreams they've had. The creature in the video, and the whole video actually, looks just like the kind of strange dream I often have.
  10. I didn't go to this, but as there's a distinct lack of action in this thread I'll just tell you a little bit of heartwarming news about two of my friends who did go. They mainly went to see Kasabian, and Mika was never really on their agenda. One of them came to see Mika with me 3 years ago rather unwillingly but was very impressed with him, but the other had always been dead set against him and has always taken the p*** out of me for liking him. However she decided she wanted to see what the fuss was with him, so they watched his set for a while with the intention of leaving half way through to go and watch Doves... Well you guessed it, they couldn't drag themselves away. They had such a good time that they forgot all about Doves, and the sceptic friend is now a complete convert. I probably don't need to tell any of you how proud and happy that's made me feel!
  11. @vanessa, Kill me with pics, why don't you! How cute is Ben pretending to be asleep? Wonder if he's that cute when he's actually asleep? It's sad that I'll never know . Thanks.
  12. I do wonder too about Andrew's arms . I think he used to do a lot of drumming, I'm sure I read that somewhere. That his dad taught him drumming when he was little, or something. I might be getting my facts confused, I don't know. But that would account for the arms!
  13. Don't worry about it. I'm English and even I don't understand some sentences in that article!! I think the author had swallowed several dictionaries for breakfast
  14. Aw Ben...so cute!! He does have the most adorable smile. Very genuine. I think I am gonna try and stand to the left side when I go, to be near Ben and show him some love, as he doesn't get enough . Nice article too..and I don't think I need to even comment on the hot stuff .
  15. Well...guess what. I was at that concert!! It was in Manchester 2 years ago. But at the time I was only a little tiny bit into MGMT, and unfortunately, I didn't pay much attention to them. My husband and I went to get a burger instead I would have liked to have stayed and watched, but.... I did hear their set from the burger van and remember Electric Feel and Of Moons Birds and Monsters most of all. In retrospect, I am so annoyed with myself for not paying more attention. And I didn't stay around for any M&G. It was a huge gig (40,000 people, a stadium) so the M&G must have been for VIPs only I think.
  16. Thanks, I have it as my Twitter background, I love that pic. It makes me think of the whole 'surfing in the Arctic Circle' thing (yeah, ok Andrew, if you say so!! ). Yes, it's impossible to love them too much. My favourite band of all time is Radiohead but MGMT are running them a very very close second at the moment.
  17. Yes, I'll cry at that one as well!! I saw some video on Youtube of a recent gig in California where they played both Metanoia AND Siberian Breaks..well that should have bored the pants off all the part-time fans who only know 'Kids' But for me, and you and others here I suspect, that would be beyond awesome! I love your dreams .
  18. If they play SB when I go to see them next month...I think I might actually cry at that part I'm too much in love with this band at the moment
  19. I also believe they'll be around for a long time, with a dedicated fanbase. It may have been a risk releasing a less commercial second album, in one sense, but I think it has been exactly the right thing to do in the long term. They are much more suited (personality-wise) to a cult-status rather than a rockstar status, don't you think? When Andrew sings I hope I die before I get sold, you actually believe him. Well I do! And that's one more reason I LOVE this band . I never ever want them to sell out. I'd rather they split up . but hopefully that won't happen at least not for a while .
  20. I love that EP too. It has such a different style to both OS and Congratulations, but it's so good. And have you heard the live version of Destrokk??? It's great, much rockier (in case you haven't..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9Iufo_djyM).) I just find Andrew hilarious (and sexy ), the interaction between the two of them very endearing, and Ben, well I just always want to hug him, he's so sweet And both of them are so obviously very intelligent people, even if they clown around a lot and act all self-deprecating.
  21. I had a dream last night that I was a dancer on stage for MGMT and was hanging out with Andrew after the gig. I'm so excited about the gig I'm going to next month now. I wasn't going to, but I think I may now have to wait around afterwards and try to meet them.
  22. Butt verification This is why I love these guys! Their sense of humour is spot-on, or at least, it matches my own .
  23. Your ode to Congratulations is very good, and sums up exactly how I feel about it too. It's always nice to know other people share your opinion, especially when that opinion is, as you rightly say, in the minority. Well done!
