  1. Christine, your wisdom is badly needed here as well:wink2:
  2. When I saw Jack's first mail on this thread in the morning I knew I'd need some time to read all replies before I comment. So, having finished work I spent the last hour or so reading all the replies... I must tell you that I think this is the best thread ever started on this site and the comments added so far are intelligent as well. I guess everything I would have commented has already been said, so let me just add one thing: the way his performances changed in the last half year have been perfectly observed and described by most of you but when it comes to his motives, I am on the opinion that it was more of an unconscious move as he has been gaining more and more confidence as a performer, backed by audience's response rather than anyone else, especially record company manipulating him to do that. I am also on the opinion that all the dressing up is just a sign of him not being confident enough to pull off a one man show... So, I expect several further changes in his show in the future - hopefully returning to basics and winning over the audience with his charm mainly and not by the chicken costume....
  3. I hope it won't be... Do you know where the angry / sad songs reference came from? Also, there has to be some kind of a theme to / reasoning behind this release e.g. 1. demos 2., live songs 3., acoustic versions 4. Xmas songs.....hmm 5. angry songs :naughty:
  4. all right, let me clarify... I didn't get why you wrote you believe it will be 'limited edition EP' only... So, I supposed there can only be one reason, namely, that he wants to release songs that are rather personal or a bit controversial...which means those unreleased yet widely known songs that now number only 6.. To me, the most controversial song was the '7th', Instant Martyr, but because it has already been released, I don't see the point in a limited edition EP... (OK, perhaps I should take this back because 'L' might also leave you )
  5. SAD or ANGRY? That is confusing...Can someone tell me in which interview he said it, so that I can double-check? I think if he didn't leave Instant Martyr for a limited edition, the EP won't be a limited edition...
  6. Well, perhaps he will always be, but I'd really like to see him perform songs based on which he'd get compared to Axl Rose, for example. That would be sooo coool:cool:
  7. What I remember is: Duran Duran vs Depeche Mode Modern Talking, Sandra, Opus, Falco, Alphaville Kim Wilde Stock/Aitken/Waterman:thumbdown: neon colours:mf_rosetinted: hairbands George Michael and GM lookalikes (with stubbles) Jacko Pet Shop Boys Bros A-ha tape recorders ...all acceptable in the 80s... (by the way, that Calvin Harris song is brilliant) and the impact? I like pastel colours now...
  8. Well, he wrote GK when he was angry but to me it's more satirical than angry. I want angry angry songs like..... hmmm.....let me think.....Death on Two Legs... :naughty: *runs away*
  9. Yeah. Freddie was basically designing his clothes from the beginning and so is Mika - to me there is not much difference, except those 35 years that have passed in the meantime.
  10. No, I don't regret seeing it. I went threre with a friend who heard and read bad reviews of the show but decided to join me, anyway. Even though she is not a Queen fan, she likes the music more or less, and from the 2 of us she was first to join the standing ovation... So the music does help the show... Ok, perhaps the humour is simply just 'British humour' that I usually like but I am sure most people don't... For example, there is a Boy George lookalike introducing himself as David Bowie, then the last introduction of the Bohemians goes: Hi I'm Robbie Williams - take that...You laugh because it's not really funny but it is supposed to be... Of course it all makes sense when the 'neanderthal man' introduces himself as Britney Spears... (The sense is that there is no sense, I guess)... But then why do they pretend to be on a mission to save music and find the hidden Red Special? Especially with the main character looking like David Beckham? The end is the funniest part, though. After WWR and WETC, when the question gets asked on BoRhap... My overall impression was ... and I like Marmite, too:biggrin2:
  11. Hello and welcome.. Let me recommend you the Queeniac Club thread: http://www.mikafanclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3458 Have fun.
  12. I'd love to hear him sing angry songs ... that would suit him so well:thumb_yello:
  13. No. that's not what I meant. I could have said 'we would still be listening to Cole Porter songs' or 'we would still be listening to Elvis' What I meant is that you must keep pace with times I only chose Gregorian as an example as that was church music / music from the 'establishment'.. The connection is that nowadays there is a kind of 'elitist' view that there are 'legends' in popular music that were perfect while no new artists will ever be able to come close to their talent. That is rubbish. I don't think Mika minds being compared to Freddie. He might hate being asked the question...what do journalists expect as an answer, anyway...
  14. Based on your recommendations I went to see it on Saturday evening in London. Summary in short: 1., No Mika the Bohemian has arrived in London yet... I don't really think it would be fitting as he is not the kind of guy who would easily get under the influence of Killer Queen ..(catachresis:blink: ) ...altough Galileo Figaro or Scaramouche might be re-named as Mika one day... 2., Strange humour... I was laughing because it was so 'unfunny' that I actually found it funny 3., Recommended for Queen fans only but for them it's a must... You know, the Marmite effect..
  15. There are some very 'outspoken' guys over there, that's true, and they seem to dominate the whole site (QOL). One of them keeps slagging off Mika, even though he was like 3rd to post on the Mika thread and proud to announce last year how Mika added him to his Myspace ages before... So he obviously liked Mika first and then changed his mind... Some people can get so frustrated when they think that Mika is on some kind of mission to distroy Freddie's legend or try to replace him...
  16. Can you tell us about it? It surely wasn't because of me, since I have never posted anything on Q sites...YET...
  17. I see... so probably she meant Mika won't be a legend like Freddie because he will become a legend like Mika... Anyway, i still uphold my message to rosedewitt...: Mika's don't grow on every tree and he is definitely not 'common'.
  18. Let me come to the defense of En Fa :the comments on Mika actually came from 'rosedewitt'.. I think that considering Mika to be 'common', and refusing even the thought of him ever succeeding to achieve legend status is like closing your eyes and ears and trying to live in the past. If people were only listening to what their parents were or what came from the establishment, then we would still be listening to Gregorian music.. It's like locking yourself in your house and refusing to let the world in.

  20. Don't you think we should include the songs that appeared on CD singles and 7''s as well? (Just like we listed the songs on each different type of album release.) That would be a great help for people who cannot buy the singles in their home countries but might order the them via the net from the UK..etc.
  21. How about his vocal cords? :biggrin2:
  22. All valid points. Besides that, if you just simply LISTEN to Mika's songs, you can actually hear that at a certain time of his life (or perhaps even now) he was obsessed with Freddie's songwriting technique. At the same time, I am sure he has been getting these comparisons for years and that is why tries to avoid bringing up the topic and never mentions Queen as one of his musical influences. I think he is pretty cool about this topic:thumb_yello: and so are we:blush-anim-cl:
