  1. Hi CrazyAboutMika!

Sorry, I did not mean to ignore you - I've been awol from the MFC for a few weeks...

Thanks for the compliment - I had such a blast making it, from idea to handover, and now its years later, and the thought of that time still gives me an ecstatic glow! You must have been reading a fair way back into MFC history to find it! I approve of your dedication!

It's hard to give Mika food, even apart from freshness, and transport, because he's a fairly healthy living fellow! But we all have the urge to give him something, anything, to try to return for the joy he gives us.

I hope you do meet him - it's quite likely if you persevere, because he is more accessible than most popstars.

  2. thanks so much for this! I've been hanging out in the Lamskanks forum and the Adam Lambert thread on Idolforum, and the last I had heard was that he wasn't going to Twitter, so this is great news! hugs!
  3. It's DC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ....Hi Mayhap we mob of rabid sheep shall meet again! (Plus a few newbies would be great!) Gahh! You were supposed to give us more notice next time, Mika, not less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Yeah, I got it back when Mika was first on it, and I use it to stalk concerts etc, but I only check it at those times, so it's useless as a way to reach me!
  5. @mikasounds Where in Australia should the MFC wait to have the best hope of seeing you pass by? ok, I sent my message, but I hate to hassle - he might one day abandon twitter if he gets too much flak. I decided that the more individual fans he heard from the more chance he might do something for us. I can hope, anyway...
  6. Unless of course I can claim its an MFC get toegther. Are there any airport stalkers out there needing companionship? I could be tempted! LOL
  7. No airport stalking for me, unfortunately. Canberra is not likely as a destination, and I have too much to do to get to Sydney on an offchance. If we can find out an actual timeline or location, I would get there just to finalise my long standing mission, but I'm not quite rabid enough to go on a maybe. I'm also quite busy and now is really bad timing, but hey, he seems to aim for Australia in winter. So, I'm definite for a definite, but nowhere for a ghost.
  8. I don't want to be the one to do it, but someone has to twitter Mika and demand more details! Have I got any volunteers?
  9. Hi guys, I love Chickadee! Now that that's official, (about Chickadee) and my husband is staring at me strangely, because I told him "Mika's coming to Australia tomorrow, and I'm busy for the next few hours!", life is a lot more fun already!
  10. Hi guys, Chickadee just rang me and let me know, so I lve her forever, and I need to find out more! Like, going aback a few pages and reading the convo!
  11. I've got to read this thread! It's so funny- I had a whim this morning to compare the MFC with other artists fanclubs/websites and just see what others had etc. I started with Katy Perry, whom I don't like, but thought she should be 'big' enough to be a reasonable comparison. - Nothing much, and the self-titled site is in spanish! As a next and final check, I chose Jason Mraz, because I have heard two of his songs in the last few months, and have quite liked them both. So I started reading jounal entries, starting with Travel Tip No.3 Bring a big f...ng knife! Now I have to go back to the very beginning to read every single journal entry, because I'm already hooked. Damm he can write! Do the lyrcs compare? Guess I'll be finding out! Of course I looked here immediately, because there were bound to be MFCers ahead of me in this discovery. Hi everyone, I'm moving in! But I don't chatter very much, so you won't notice me around very often...
  12. Just looking at the 'original' Gainsborough's Blue Boy http://gardenofpraise.com/images/blue_boy.jpg Very interesting!
  13. Thanks heaps! Not sure about 'fancy' except in the stand back and admire sense, because that face does not look cuddly! I'm off the check the links!
  14. If there's a link in your message I'm not finding it, and the picture is not clickable... Can you post the link again please? But thank you for all of him - he really is special! The face in close-up is more powerful, the body gives context of history.
  15. A. Clay, where did you find this picture and who is it of? It's fantastic! I learned when I studied English at school that the authors never understood half of what could/would be interpreted from their words, which the author would say made the interpretations invalid. However, if you dug deeper and leraned about the life and times of the author, you began to understand that waht they write is a product of themeselves, their lives and their times, and their world-view is necessarily reflected in their word. Sometimes they are trying to get a contrary or different view across, but you still need to know what it is different from... So Mika and Christine can have a simple interpretation, but Mika's writing comes out of him, and he is not simple...
  16. When you say bedspreads, do you mean sewn ones (whole cloth) or quilted/pieced ones? And draperies? Is that curtains? I watched my mother make some when I was young, and decided never to go there! Or are 'draperies' art quilt panels? In which case you must please let me see a picture!

Hexagons are something that I was taught to make once, and decide they were way too hard and fiddly. Hexagons - wow.

That's the best thing about quilting - there's so much variety that if you like handcrafts, you can find a style to like!

Mika had the hugest reaction when he was given the bag. I've rarely seen him so overwhelmed (on videos of other gift givings), so it was very obvious that he immediately apreciated it.

What was also nice about the bag was John's reaction (who was being Mika's bodyguard/present holder). As soon as Mika moved on, he asked how many hours it had taken, and when I said 30, he seemed blown away. He was soon struggling to hold all the presents, (I'd been first!) and I suggested he use the bag as a bag, and he needed reasssurance that it was ok to treat it so ordinarily. Very funny!

After the show, we'd had our meet and greet (boring stunned silent rabbits - poor Mika!)

and everyone from the MFC was saying goodbye, I was still hanging around to wait for Mika to leave. (Dammit, I was there to see the bloke properly, not to leave any sight unseen! I was way back, just looking, cos I'd more than had my fair share!) He came out quite quickly to a bunch of 20 or so non-MFCers, and accepted a cowboy hat from a gorgeous lass, but tucked firmly under his arm was my bag!

I have such good memories - and I was on a Mika high for at least a month pre-concert (from the time I heard about his Aussie visit ) then a fortnight of deep PMD, then back to a Mika high for another 3 months! And just writing about it now makes my blood tingle and my face smiley! Thanks for reviving the memory, and for giving me an excuse to ramble!

  17. He also muttered something after that. It sounded like "I like this song a lot, but I'm not sure - " and then he waas interrupted by a band member and did not finish his sentence. I wonder if he will, next time... I absolutely adore this song, and the melody is an instant hit, but the words are very much more problematical for the general public to accept. Billy Brown also remained as a 'live' favourite only. It will take a very brave record company to release it as a single. Maybe they'd release it as something like the third or fourth single if the album is another massive hit. Here's hoping!
  18. I hear "mantra" because I've never heard of 'munter", but I've got no idea how it would fit in...
  19. How on earth did you find that out? It seems so long ago, in some ways. But having just read on MFC that Mika and DaWhack are collaborating on an art/music thing or something, my brain is spinning with plans to make something featuring the picture I like best... Or perhaps something from the new album...

Thanks for the compliment on the bag - it was all part of a plot to put him in a good mood - it seemed to work quite nicely! I'd never done any raw-edge appiques like that before, so it was fabulously challenging to do!

What sort of quilting do you do? Have you got any pictures I could see? I'd love to see what you make!

  20. I agree. I got that when I watched his mouth form the words on the video. He does not seem to shape "blue'.
  21. Saved - by Grace Kelly! I got caught that way too! And by the video, so I have no defence! I wasn't having a go at you for being "in it for the looks", or it would be fanclub dismissed, with very few left standing (and me not amongst them.) Hopefully not our main reason, but certainly an added bonus. My point is, that singing that song, any song, did not spoil his 'pretty'. So if you were/are upset, it would not have been for that reason. Anyway, I'm sorry for any upset I caused you. - You were only the catalyst that triggered me. It was mostly because of the instant reactions others also had on hearing it for the first time. I like the mystery too, and I'm proud of Mika, because I actually think it is the harder road. Luckily, as we have proven with the discussion in this thread so far, if you don't like the instant assumption you made, there's at least one more interpretation you can choose. Although that's not a nice choice either, possibly between "I'm gay" and "I feel powerless and abused". I think my preferred option is that when the ineveitable questions require a journalistic answer, he reveals another third party outlook - another friend he just happened to write about...
  22. This is a case where the answer is too much fun and too easy. I wandered away, knowing I shouldn't, and came back because I just can't resist it. No offense intended, so please, don't snap back except in fun.... Sincere apologies in advance! Oh damm... Did you wish......???? Well, I guess all you young things will have to cross him off your list of prospective husbands, and try to find a decent straight guy somewhere else... So where does that leave the poor fellow....? Next concert, he'll look down the row of who's been waiting in line all day, and see all these oldling hags, all happily married with kids of their own, who just adore the music... and the person who sings it .... Things will never be the same again!!!! If only he'd guessed what he was giving away when he sang this song in public!!!!
  23. Ok. point taken, but since I mostly hang out in the current music space, rather than the artistic/poetic, I find it a rare commodity. Given his background, training and family, it's not surprising that he should be 'artistic' in the truest sense, so I just remain very grateful that Mika likes 'pop' music, and I found him!
  24. Another thought while I am on a roll - This sort of song, with strong storyline lyrics and amazing melody is strongly reminiscent of the best songs in musicals like Phantom of the Opera, and Les Miserables. I wonder... Is he hearkening back to his past, or giving a glimpse of his future - or both?
  25. I've been following this thread with great interest, and have given in to the impulse to join the fun. I love the voice Mika shows in this song. For every time I've spent listening for the words, I had another time when I absolutely ignore the words and admire his voice as an instrument. I am grateful and thankful for the recordings of Mika at a time when he has not been madly touring, and his voice is rested, and he does not have a sore throat or a cold! Quick, let's work out a plan to keep him this healthy forever! Love Sienna's interpretion. Haven't yet got enough of an opinion myself to comment, except that I like to consider that the lines - I’m a wind-up toy in an up down world If you leave me all alone, I’ll make a mess for sure -might be about the lack of independence of a wind-up toy, and a grown-up person's opinion that an incompetent boy/toy is likely to stuff up most things he touches. (In the context of Sienna's song notes.) Another thought - I love what this song (most of Mika's songs) show about him. It does not matter whether or not they are in any way autobiographical. What matters is that he writes songs expressing an emotion/mood/feeling, and you can't do that unless you understand those emotions and that point of view. (If they were all autobiographical, that might not be true, but I'm taking his word for Billy Brown and Holy Johnny at least. ) What that means to me is that he is a deeply empathic person, and really does receive what other people 'tell' him, and can enter into their feelings. That skill is so rare... He's not just doing the standard 'love and lust and lost', he's seeing the wholeness of people...
