  1. It is amazing that so far there are no negative reports from fans who have encountered him, and some of the situations described would test the patience of even the kindest individual. There has to be more to it than just kindness, given the focus and drive which has brought him so far already. I think Mika's fans are part of his career planning - he has said he wants a long career and fans who will stick with him. He is carefully building a strong and loyal fan base, and his manager's "kindness" to MFC members at shows is part of the research into how to keep us loyal, and giving us what we want will help him achieve that. However, while that sounds cold and calculating, it seems that Mika loves people and people watching, and loves the random interactions he gets from dedicated fans. It is relatively easy to follow a plan that fits your personality and natural inclinations, and Mika's plan covers many years. I believe there is also a genuine love of his fans as people, which enhances his kindness to us. He has both business and personal reasons for the way he behaves, and the more reasons he can find, the longer the behaviour will last, through illness, tiredness and abuse from ignorant or over-eager fans. If you watch videos of his interations with fans, it is clear that he has his basic job, which is to give autographs and photos, which he does extremely well, with care and charm. He lights up with joy at signs of real personality and care from his fans, like costumes, weird gifts and other signs of individuality. These are his and our highlights, and if the magic continues, both fans and superstar will live happily ever after!
  2. I have been considering the Mika contradiction and your thoughts. I have kept my discusson fairly superficial too, as I agree - it is not fair to do too much public analysis. However, I found your thoughts too interesting to resist responding. Genuinely nice people often judge themselves quite harshly, and think they are mean when no-one else would. So Mika might say he is a perfectionist and demands his own way, while a person working with him might find him accurate, decisive and clear in his vision. Mika said he can say "You look awful today" and get away with it - the person addressed would not hear a criticism but an honest, unbiased opinion expressed without malice. They could choose to take offense, but most would not. Mika is on a mission. He has been planning for it his whole life, and now he is living it. He has put a lot of thought into it, and knows a lot of detail about what he wants, he has far more than a general direction of "I want to be famous". He wants to have a long career, and he wants the fans who love him now to still be with him after many years pass. He is working hard and sincerely to deserve and keep our love. We have the easy part. We can stay or we can drift, and no-one is watching us. Mika's every move is being videoed and discussed. From fans who have met him, there are NO negative reports. My mind boggles at the care and determination that takes, that no matter how tired or ill he feels, we come first when we meet him. He is human, and can restrict that slightly, by having his minders do the hard lines of "time to go", but he can and does over-ride that to give us even more time. I think it will be a very long time before he can do it himself. His manager finds MFC members and ask questions and brings us back-stage to meet Mika. There is no doubt in his mind that Mika wants to meet us, and will always make time for us. It is not his manager who needs to know what the fans want, it is Mika. In another post someone said he was still star struck and finding it difficult to believe how much we love him, so he is kind in case we leave. I think that's partly true, but he is not a needy person in general, who must be loved. I do think we fans get the best of him. He has less patience with some interviewers than for the stupidest of fans who scream and grope. He is calculated with the things that he finds important to his career: - his music and songwriting, so he is perfectionist in those areas, writing and recording - his fans - he wants us to be loyal - so he tries to be deserving of loyalty. - his live performances - so he will give the best possible show he can despite tiredness, illness or injury So, I find Mika human, but very hardworking, and extremely focussed and determined to achieve his goals. Mika will not stand still, and rest on his laurels - no matter how good he already is, he requires himself to keep growing and learning, saying that if he stops it will be because he is dead. Watching how quickly he learns, the next 35 years of his career will be worth watching.

  4. First, Happikali modelling her beautiful gift to Mika, who said on stage "Other people are given champagne. I don't like champagne, so I get this!" I take that as the perfect cue for us to continue our weird and wonderful assortment of gifts. He really does appreciate each one! Collectively, we get to be as random as Mika! The other two are the clearest of the many photos I took while wildly snapping. I so need a new camera!
  5. I have just emptied my camera, and as expected, I have a lot of fuzzy and blurry shots, but these ones seemed to come out alright. The first is the Kiwi and other presents RosinaKiwi asked me to give Mika. The next two are of the Sunrise studio, and the last two are of the bag I made for Mika.
  6. Sorry about how long it has taken me to produce a full report. I wrote every single thing I could remember, so I can have it for myself if the memory ever blurs. It is very long, so I put it in a myspace blog, which anyone who wants can read (I hope). http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=182051586 I'm going to head off to bed now. It's 3 am for me, so I deserve some rest. My Mika high is still here, so I am not tired, and may never be again, but apparently humans need sleep, so I try. Night all!
  7. We are so lucky here at this forum, because there is so much Mika information, we can appreciate him as a person, not just a remote figurehead popstar. I need some thinking time, because otherwise all you will get is a dictionary list of superlatives and praise, - people are too complex to describe easily once you get past the obvious physical stuff. I have many impressions all whirling, in a beautiful blur.
  8. He asked if we would like that, and was nearly deafened by the fervent chorus of "YES!!!"
  9. Hi, I'm back and still floating on air! Pam_Ram, I was thinking of you - please tell me your night was not spent on the roadside! (And that you got home safely!) I've read the other reports, but have not written mine yet - so much happened I could write a book, so I need to reflect and digest for a few more hours. I need to visit the "how to sleep" thread and pick up some clues, because my body has stopped believing it is necessary when the time could be spent thinking and bouncing instead! Please be patient, I promise more detail as soon as I can be coherent! Random Mika thoughts - So much finer and more delicate in features and body than I had thought - the camera really does add 10 pounds! Friendly, with a definite element of reserve - he's a person with a lot of personal boundaries, and he chooses carefully what he does. Spontaneous, but with a huge amount of self-control. We (fanclub) are likely to get a Mika blog on a semi-regular basis - not clear if on this site or Mikasounds or Myspace. We may also get more access to dates and info without needing to work quite so hard to ferret it all out! His manager was definitely looking for us to have a chat and find out what we wanted from Mika. (Pinch me, I might still be dreaming!) Wear the brightest gaudiest clothes you can - it so works!!!! Wear a fanclub badge - they know it and look for it! Meet up with other fanclub members and try to group - it will help us get noticed as a significant force, not just a random straggle. Mika was on a definite high, so charged up to be on stage, he firecrackered his way around the stage - with a huge grin! Mika Mika Mika!!!!
  10. There seem to be a significant number of posts about how Mika should get some more rest, so I decided to start this thread to give him the benefit of our collective wisdom. Any tips on how to get to sleep in a strange place, or on a plane etc would be great, so he can try a few for himself! My own tip is: Take your own pillow! With the amount of luggage that has to travel with you everywhere, one pillow won't make much of a difference, but there is great joy in sleeping on a consistent comfortable pillow. Anyone got any others? Please share with Mika!
  11. Excitement!!! Mika on Sunrise on Friday, 1 June! Sydney here I come!!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!
  12. http://www.media-convert.com/ is another option
  13. Jolene posted this in the Australian thread Quote: Originally Posted by Jolene Hey Guys! I am so jealous of everyone who is going!! :Quote: The Take 40 website is doing the filming, and they have a competition which is still running to win airfares and tickets. It closes May 30, and I think you need to register with them to be able to enter. 25 words or less to say why you desreve to be there.
  14. This is fabulous! Great editing job! THANK YOU!!!
  15. This is a generalisation, but - I think everyone strives for love and attention. Good looking people get a lot more of that for free. Sometimes they are so good looking everyone just wants them to sit still and be admired, not speak and interrupt the picture. People with lesser looks have to work out other strategies to get the love and attention, which might mean going funny, or artistic, or intelligent, or just weird and interesting. Mika seems to win both ways, because his level of looks would normally mean that he automatically was given the love, but his changing countries and not fitting in at school meant that he had to find another path and develop his personality to survive. This is all an extreme generalisation, and I resepct that people with Mika level of artistic talent (music and art) will always need to express it, but us lesser mortals tend to go where we are driven. There is a joke about: "Do you have a really great personality?' "Yes" "Wow, you must be really ugly!" which always fit me a bit too well...
  16. It is on one of the other threads, but I did enjoy seeing it again! Thanks for posting!
  17. A quick update - I went to the website to see if tickets are still available, which is just a check to see if it sold out in the first half hour - lol! I had not noticed before that the headline reads: Saturday 2 Jun Frontier Touring Presents MIKA - This Event Will Be Filmed Wow!!! So now we just need to get our greedy hands on the official film!!! The bad news is, that means they are likely to really crack down on personal cameras, videos, everything, to maintain their recording as exclusive... I wish I had a bigger bust!! (lol) They are so good to smuggle things in! Being flatchested sometimes causes real problems!
  18. I got my ticket yesterday at the dot of 12, but checked again this morning, and there are still pre-sale tickets available... So maybe he won't be mobbed??.... It will be interesting to see the crowd levels, given the short notice, and the lack of advertising. Or is Sydney flooded with ads?
  19. Hi, sorry for the delay - I only get the computer time in the early mornings! Life is busy! I have ordered a pack of 18 from here - would anyone like to meet up and grab one fom me? I don't think I can find a way to use them all in one Mika visit, no matter how dedicated I am! http://ilumn8.com.au/cat-flashing-necklaces.cfm
  20. Ok, I temporarily stopped my heart flutters and crazy dances enough to think this through... We have a Mika gig date for Saturday June 2, and June 3 is his last day here as well as being a Sunday. So the Sunrise concert, which is still showing on the 7 website as happening, must be on the Thursday or Friday, with my bet/hope being Friday. So, I need to drive to Sydney on Thursday afternoon, dress in bright silly clothes that my family would shudder at if they knew, camp out in the plaza until Sunrise starts, watch Mika perform as wonderfully as always, hope Mika does do a signing and I can be there, faint, and stagger away to sleep the rest of Friday away. Get up at crack of dawn on Saturday, dress in another gaudy ridiculous outfit to stake out the Forum, hoping to catch glimpses and soundchecks, see a great concert, hang around for a few more obsessive hours to get another glimpse, faint, stagger off to sleep. Sunday, drive home to soberly and innocently tell my family that yes, it was a good concert, and isn't it nice to be home... So before then, all I have to do is buy concert tickets on Monday at the dot of 12, find or make gaudy silly clothes, make Mika a present, make or buy a Fanclub badge, think up ways to smuggle a camera into the venue, hope my flashing hearts arrive in the mail, and keep busy enough to appear respectably calm!! Too easy! All under control here! Back to the wild dances and joyous loop de loops!
  21. Mika ! Mika! Mika! At last, some live Mika for Aussies!!! I'm happy, nervous, excited, thrilled! Ok, are there any who would like to go to the concert who do not think they will be able to afford or access the presale tickets? I have need of 2 at most, and the site will let us pre-sale up to 4. Presale starts Monday at noon (here), so pm me if you have a need, and I'll get them for you. (Well, I'll be on the internet from 10 minutes before noon trying, anyway) Woo hoo! Yippee! Mika! Mika! Mika! got to do lots of wild dancing and leaping catch me later!
  22. Nice interview, thank you for posting it!
  23. I believe that Mika has a certain chameleon talent, the ability to switch gears and vocally imitiate a lot of people, with accent, intonation, voice quality and probably more that I can't name! He has regularly mentioned his airport accent, and with his a bility to pick languages up easily, is the talent to mimic voices and accents perfectly. In Everybody's Talking, he does a very close version to the original, and I think his voice is flexible and skilled enough that he can do pretty much whatever imitations he wants, musically. I think that in Grace Kelly, the Freddie similarity in that line is uncanny, and I also think that what we ave seen Mika do so far is a very small tip of a very large iceberg. I look forward to having Mika surprise and delight me for many years to come!
  24. Thanks heaps, BlackQueen, it was a great translation of a very interesting article!
  25. I found this nice piece on the Grace Kelly single: Single of the Year? Well, it may just be....it will stick in your head and make you smile, bring the sunshine in when it's cloudy outside...comes complete with the great Linus Loves mix, B-Side 'Over My Shoulder' PLUS the 'let's gather around the piano' video! http://www.heraldsunhit.com.au/product/grace_kelly_746150_49159.html
