  1. I have been wondering whether some rather negative reactions to the PdesP show and DVD (in my case, to both) are not an unconscious way of betraying our fear that Mika might be on the wrong track and forgetting about the simple magic of music, even though he keeps mechanically repeating that it comes first. Whenever an artist starts putting more and more musicians, more and more chorists on stage, I personally start feeling suspicious. Hiring the Effing Philarmonic orchestra won't make you any better. On the contrary, the less the merrier... And we do need a new album. Soon. Absolutely !
  2. I noticed that a few MFCers were beginning to grumble because we went on and on about the PdesP DVD, so I decided to move on... to the next tour and venues. I was lazzily browsing the Internet, found out that Eric Clapton would be at the Royal Albert Hall next February, nearly passed out when I saw the price of tickets but thought how brilliant it would be if Mika performed there. The capacity is perfect : not too big so that you can really see the musicians and at the same time big enough for a guy who -almost- filled up an arena. Plus it has a classical music flavour , very appropriate. I went as far as choosing on their seating chart my seat for that night. Hardly moving on, rather daydreaming I'm afraid, but it felt good .
  3. [quote name=avoca; the only difference between the 2 editions of dvd is apparently the packaging' date=' nothing else. deluxe costs 26 € here. the packaging though is pretty good and the booklet bears some very very nice pics. [/quote] Have just received the copy I ordered from Amazon UK, it's in the shape of a hard covered book, with lots of pictures attached to them but I don't know if it is a bona fide De luxe edition... Never mind, I am going downtown this afternoon to buy a De luxe copy, that will make three , including the standard one I bought on THE day. I always buy several copies of the same disk ; thus I can lend them to people who don't know Mika yet and get them badly hooked ; last victim, my GP, who is just under 60 and fervently hopes he lives long enough to watch Mika's career all the way :wheelchair:. I am a shameless pusher. But I also lend them to people who can’t afford the price, like very young fans. I am not all bad. I read Matthew Todd’s dithyrambic review twice and am wondering whether the first two words ‘By rites’ are a typo. Perhaps he was just being witty… what do you think ?
  4. No, I don't think you would : it's more elation than emotion. An interesting phenomenon happens : as soon as Mika is on stage your zygomatic muscles go up of their own accord, reaching your eyes which are, of course, full of twinkling stars. The feeling goes on long after the gig so that you find everybody highly lovable; the crowd, the merch guys, the security men, they are all lovely people and you are their friend... it's a weird and delicious feeling. I can't help thinking that the reason why fans wait for up to three hours outside the theatre it is to prolong the high and retain the magic as much as to thank Mika or get his signature scribbled on your ticket.
  5. I was just saying that making fun of an elderly lady's name and nationality was at the same time extremely childish, rather unsavoury, and chauvinistic into the bargain. I am sure there are lots of better ways of wasting one's time, your occupation according to your profile.

Actually I wanted to start a thread with my November 6th thought for the day but didn’t because of the young fans that might read it and the ‘orgasmic’ part. Might as well have done it : the bulk of the MFC seems to be overgrown female adolescents and middle age housewives, not many preteens here. Still, we don’t want to risk shocking kids, do we ? Even if they watched the bad bunny gangbang live or on utube multiple times…

Whenever I come across one of those posts I copy them in a document, but I don’t look for them. Honestly folly freaks me out : give me ten intelligent beasts but spare me one fool –even a well meaning one, and unfortunately not all fools are sweet. Poor Voltaire !

Incidentally I understand a bit of Italian, even broken one.

    Cheers,

  6. Do you mean to say that you have never been to one of Mika's concerts ? Then you are still to experience that punch in the solar plexus that seing him for the first time gives one ; the moment the guy is on stage, even before he has sung one single note, he owns the place... and you, for an hour and a half ! If you can, choose a smallish theatre (less and less easy, I am afraid) and queue up the time it takes (if necessary, camp there) to be in the front row. Then enjoy.
  7. Blame the pervs who kept asking him for his old trainers -and may still be asking for all we know. Before that he was probably ashamed of his slightly misshapen feet. Then realizing people found them sexy he started flashing them. Let's hope nobody asks him for his old boxers or he might turn all Jim-Morrison-in-Miami and indecently expose himself on stage...
  8. I didn't enjoy the PdesP circus (real and metaphorical) but I love the recording of the show. I am still wondering why on earth I was there but then, if I hadn't been, and enjoyed the DVD, I would have felt frustrated, thinking I had missed something special. Which was definitely the audience's reaction. Can you give me your recipe for eternal optimism ?

And inverted snobbery is the reason of... can you help me here ? I believe that 'snob' is he contraction of 'sine nobilitate'.

Actually inverted snobbery must be something Mika had to suffer at the lycée Charles de Gaulle too. Definitely too close to home, I should'nt mention it to him. All the more so as he is an Eastern guy, they are most respectful of elderly people there, they don't take kindly to people insulting them.

  11. Mika has always been quite candid about it : he writes, and plays and sings first for himself, for 'that funny feeling at the back of [his] spine'. So his high in the PdesP came mainly from the challenge he was successfully meeting and the sheer size of the crowd. After all being selfish and selfcentered is not illegal. Or surprising in an artist I suppose. Hope he doesn't bring that mood to the bedroom though... or his partners are unlikely to stay the night twice . To use the love making metaphor, in the PdesP the parters on stage and the ones in the audience were pleasing themselves without touching one another. I was there, not particularly enthusiastic about the show, and if I did enjoy the wild happiness of the audience, I didn't give an f whether the performers were having the time of their life. I left during the French version of Grace Kelly to avoid the crowd at the end of the gig and I wasn't the only spectator to do that so obviously arena shows are not everybody's cup of tea.
  12. Everybody to their own tastes. I personally found the Greystoke look rather hot . And are you quite sure you couldn't care less ? After all you did notice the hairy toes . As a matter of fact, I didn't until I read your post. I totally agree about the hair though. We don't want Mika to break down when he realizes he is becoming severely bald .
  13. Hear ! Hear ! And again, next time you snog his face off, don't be too gentle on his nose, it might save him painful and expensive plastic surgery.
  14. Yes, thanks, I guessed as much... it just looked sunny enough to be on the fourth floor, in July and in Corsica.
  15. You'll have to do it again : you left a bit too much nose...
  16. :original: Thanks a lot for answering so quickly ! I think I am going to follow your advice ; even in London on February 28th, when he had already filled up a bit (some working out, I suppose) yours fitted him perfectly. And even if it's a bit too short, he has never been adverse to flashing his belly, has he ? :wink2:

  17. Are you the one who gave Mika the cute customized tee-shirt ? Brilliant, no wonder he wears it all the time !

I wanted to ask you which size you chose ? As a matter of fact I would like to give him a shirt with an Indian ink drawing by a French artist I know, something rather dark, borderline scary, but then he is a big boy now, he should be able to handle it. I have been wondering whether I should pick a size M (he is extremely thin) or a size L (he is extemely tall). Help me please !

  18. Are you sure ? His flat is a basement one, in London... how many bulbs did he have put on the walls and ceiling to get so much light ? I know he is the sun but still... Unless you have actually been there and are being discreet ? So wise of you : I am sure he doesn't like people who kiss and tell.
  19. Where you really there ? I am so jealous ! Never ever give me your address because I would be tempted to come and murder you one night… Seriously I totally agree with you : what is important is the connection between the artists and the audience ; we got that at the Werchter festival, we were all, musicians included, mad as hatters and wet as porridge. But Dusseldorf… what I saw of it (only videos, unfortunately)... he was so generous, there were times when the audience must have felt like telling him : ‘Stop it mate, that’s suicide, go back to your hotel room and get some rest !’ His performing topless part of the set was probably less the usual flashing and teasing than trying to get rid of a burning temperature. And at the end of HMDYLM, at some point he goes to the back of the stage, and then comes back to the front and starts singing again, and you can see that each single note is stabbing his throat like a wood splinter, still he won’t shorten the song. The guy’s a tiger ! The PdesP was a grand and perfect show, it made Mika happy so we are happy for him who has been giving us so much but it lacked soul. Oh well there are going to be many more soulful concerts in the future, no question about that. Who knows, perhaps we’ll meet at one of them ? I promise not to murder you then, on the night of a gig I am quite harmless, too mellow to wish anybody any harm.
  20. Yes, it is superb, isn't it, and he is so intense when he sings it ! But I thought it was supposed to be on his second album anyway. It certainly seems to fit the new mood : not longer a boy growing up but a young man enjoying the delights and facing the fears and hurt of a relationship (ie : Rain). If you are hooked on HMDYLM, as I am, I highly recommand the Dusseldorf version, when he overcame a burning throat infection to do justice to the song and make the audience happy . Poignant...
  21. Very unlikely to be his flat I would say, he is so private... Probably a friend's or collaborator's place, meant to look like his own and start his fans dreaming. A bit complicated ? But then, who said Mika is not ?
  22. Actually what happens is Nagui, the host and producer of the program, tells Mika his fly is down:devil:. Mika looks and checks but it's perfectly all right. :mad3:So he gives Nagui the finger. On the same footage, probably at the end of the show, he takes Nagui (a shortish guy) in his arms, hugs him violently and throws him in the air. Very likely to relieve the tension, he was stage frightened that night, :hypo:you can hear it in his voice, either when he speaks or when he sings. He looks and sounds very young and insecure. Rather endearing. And Nagui is a sweet guy and kind host, always seeing and bringing out the best in his guests. I believe you can still find the video on utube or through truveo, I saw it the other day while looking for something else.
