Hoe kunnen we anders verklaren dat de combinatie van camp, kitsch en cabaret - drie notoire vijanden van de goede smaak - ons zo moeiteloos veroverde op Rock Werchter? Als een gezwinde gazelle kwam Mika het podium opgehuppeld, waarbij hij je manisch gidste doorheen een exuberante gay party. Een chique opgedirkt strijkerskwartet, danseresjes in een konijnenpakje, in Moulin Rouge-pakjes gehesen dikkerdjes, een frontale publieksaanval met lolly's en overuren draaiende confettikanonnen maakten daarbij de dienst uit. De zanger begon zijn set met de überhit 'Relax, Take It Easy' en een onverwoestbaar strijdplan in het achterhoofd: elke truuk werd uit de kast gehaald om het publiek heviger te doen kolken dan een whirlpool. Songs als 'Big Girl (You Are Beautiful') en 'Grace Kelly' drongen zich dan ook heviger op dan de schreeuwerige trailers op TMF, waardoor je geen moment kon staan suffen. Toen een hevige wolkbreuk een domper op de feestvreugde leek te zetten, speelde Mika doodleuk zijn shirt uit op de tonen van de 80s-classic 'Just Can't Get Enough', maar het was de turbofunk van 'Love Today', met een falsetto die kristallen glazen spontaan kon vergruizen en een hyperkinetische solo op vuilnisbakken, die uiteindelijk zorgde voor het hoogtepunt van de show.
