If its something else like a recurring problem, for example excessive migraines, most times you make appointments, but I think the majority of Americans that I know just go to the doctor when it's convenient for them. Well you can go to the emergency if it's urgent, then you don't have to make an appointment obviously, but then you'll probably also have to wait, sometimes for hours depending on how many that's there at the same time.
