  1. Funny thing about the whole "rot when you die" thing... Back in college, when I was taking an intro theology course, and we were supposed to debate various religions' versions of the afterlife, one kid looked at me in horror when I said I was was atheist and said something like, "but... how can you be an atheist? That means you have to believe there is nothing when we die!" I said that yes, that's what it meant, and asked why he thought it was such a problem. He replied "but it's so awful, it can't be true." I had to laugh at the logic there. Just because something is unpleasant doesn't mean it can't be true. And besides that, I don't think there is anything "awful" in the idea that there is nothing when you die. If anything, it's comforting. Not-existing is not painful or anything--it's just nothing! No need to worry about hell, or about anything--it's simply like before we are born. --Jack
  2. It's funny to see you guys freaking out about Mika's potential neglect/abuse of his future dog. I would take these words as comfort: Also, he's been saying he wants to get a dog for a while. In fact, two years ago, during his first US tour he was saying the same thing--he wanted to get a dog when he got home. And I, even though I was full of giddy Mika-love at the time, likewise worried about the various implications of it, and pretty much let him know. He immediately said that of course he'd make sure the dog was well taken care of, and he wouldn't just get a dog as a toy, etc etc... But yeah, this isn't a new thing. --Jack
  3. Won't he just be over the moon then, when I write my eventual "Things That Keep Me a Mika Fan" thread? Maybe he'll even write a f***-off song in my honor? If it's as good as "Grace Kelly," I'll consider myself a satisfied muse. --Jack
  4. I usually say I'm agnostic, but basically I'm atheist. Ie, I prefer to say "agnostic" since I do believe we can't know whether there is a God or not, but I don't believe in any personified God of the Judeo-Christian-Muslim kind. So, despite the fact that I might allow for the theoretical existence of some kind of "God," since I don't practice any active belief in such a being, have seen no positive proof to indicate this being's existence, and don't subscribe to any religious doctrines, that makes me very little different from atheist, in practical terms. The link provided by racinghorse is, um, really stupid, because if theists can get away with asking "if X is made, there must be a maker," then they should also have to answer how God came into being. If God Just Did, well then, the universe Just Did. At least the universe doesn't have any pretensions of consciously determining all existence. --Jack
  5. He said there'd be no more blogs in August. The boy is just taking a break. He'll be back in a week or so. --Jack
  6. Lived in too many European places for too long. Mad cow ad all that. --Jack
  7. Awww, good thread. I need to lookup my blood type... To be honest I'm terrified of blood and needles. But after 9/11 I wanted to do something to help, and so in order to get more comfortable with the idea I began to volunteer at our college blood drive. I did eventually donate, and I loved volunteering and was very active in the drive for the next year... I should start that up again, especially since I think I'm not allowed to donate in the US anymore. One of the stranger places I've gotten a date too. --Jack
  8. Hahah, THAT you can't accuse me of! I mean, besides being on the other side of the stage from you. I quickly figured out that the best I could do in my situation is help the people in front of me up, and dig my heels in ad bear out the push from the back... so that is what I did. Nono, thank you! I don't think I do at all really, it's just the apple. --Jack
  9. Hahah, what did I ever do to you Holly? I don't think I bit you, did I? I was sure that was someone else... Yop, you will not be disappointed, my eyes are black as black cherries. They're the hint to the evil within! --Jack
  10. You're right, that's a good way to look at it. I suppose it would be very interesting to see what the blog could develop into, given the room and the time. True, he could well make it into an interesting, independent creation that will have to be taken on its own terms rather than as "notes from Mika." I must be a fangurl then; I have to admit I'd be pretty happy with that. --Jack
  11. Ok, let's do it together. No, quite clearly, what I said was: Where you get that I want him to be mean or rude or nasty, I have NO idea. Gee, funnily enough I'm quite aware of that: If you read my original post again, you'll see that in fact I don't want that. It's called "modifiers." I don't want him to stop blogging, I just think it would be better if it was a weekly blog. Not that it matters. I also didn't say "I hated such things." I said I liked some of the text blogs "when they are done well" and the videoblogs. I comment on the stuff I like. It's not so much the "what" as the "how." As in, I want him to provide a bit more of his own opinion on the stuff he's linking us to, WHY he likes it, WHY he thinks it's worthwhile, etc. Not just slap a link and an "it's brilliant!" on it. But again, it doesn't really matter what I think... as I explained. Your other questions I already answered in the rest of the thread that you didn't feel like reading. --Jack
  12. Well I don't know. Why do you comment on this thread when you haven't read it (or even the first post, apparently)? --Jack
  13. Awww, thank you phunks. Yeah, I'm not really that terrible or scary in real-life, am I? --Jack
  14. I don't know Mika at all! But if you like children's animation like Wonderpets, I can maybe recommend this: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sICgWJ46_4E It's not similar, mind. For one, the pacing is a lot slower, because it is from Russia in like, the 60s, and stuff was slower then. Also, the subtitles aren't that great. But it's really quite good... and the second series starts with Gena the Crocodile's birthday and his song about how he's determined to enjoy it even though it's on a rainy day "because birthdays only come once a year," and my mom used to sing that to me whenever I was sad. --Jack
  15. Pam, I ASSURE you that the people who are "tired" of his blog are not anywhere close to a majority. Even the people who agree with me are just saying it can be overwhelming when it's like 3 blogs a day, but they still want blogs! And most people are enjoying them as they are. Me, now, I see nothing of particular interest in the wonderpets that I haven't seen in other children's programming. (Some of it worse, some of it better.) And you know what, this blogging spree has convinced me that Mika and I really wouldn't get on in real life... I wouldn't get him, he wouldn't get me, we'd both bore and annoy each other. Well enough! That doesn't mean I seriously want him to stop blogging about stuff that amuses him, or seriously expect him to listen to me even if I did. And my expectations or wants are moot anyway, because it's not up to me, it's up to him--and he's his own person, come on. I trust him to take the feedback he gets, both in the shape of my silly threads and people's response to the silly threads, and the comments on his blog--and make his own decisions, that reflect his desires. Which, in the case of my thread, is most likely to be to totally ignore it. (Those desires may be tempered by a wish to please the fans and business considerations, but that'll be his wish and his business.) --Jack
  16. I have been away with my birthday and all, so sadly I do not know what we've been discussing on this thread. Before I go back and look though... this is what I had instead of cake on my birthday. (Violet_sky may want to look away, as this also shows my face without a mask, thus shattering the Mystery!!!) --Jack
  17. I agree with Chicky, your posts always come off as very well-written to me! I guess you are right it is hard in a debate, but you should not feel shy... and if anything, write it in your own language and leave it up to us to figure it out. --Jack
  18. Well, I was serious about being bored with the blogs. The thread was intended in a joking manner because I don't actually think I have any authority to demand that Mika should or should not cater expressly to my wishes--especially when as I said, I expected to be in the extreme minority here. So yeah, my "telling Mika what to do" was a joke. I happen to the think the idea of little-ole-me "demanding" that Mika blog less, as though my opinion is so important--when it's obvious so many people love the blogs--is extremely amusing in being just so very damn silly. I suppose not everyone finds that as humorous as I do though. Also, btw, I never called his vblogs "crap." In fact, I specifically said I preferred their content to some of the text blogs. Ad I'm still waiting for the tea-making (birthday tea-set use entirely optional!) vblog. Andy Andy please? --Jack
  19. I am now tired of this thread. I've said before: a) the thread was created to make fun of me as-a-fan more than Mika or his blogs, and I'm sorry if you don't get it...maybe you work in an office. b) If Mika would seriously get upset that some random fan was bored of his blogs of all things (and I specifically noted that I've been enjoying his music afresh lately), then man, Mika is a princess. I think he's a little less over-sensitive than that. c) Hey, look at that, no blogs for a while! Now if he posts a new one we'll be all excited. See, even though I was joking, it does too do good to complain. --Jack
  20. Um, except that it is? That pic has been around for a while... --Jack
  21. I explained twice. Maybe people could read the thread? --Jack
  22. I certainly will continue to support him whether he takes me up on my silly requests or not. --Jack
  23. Wow, this thread woke up! And Yop is here! Do you guys think maybe I was too mean in the 1st post of that thread? I really meant to poke fun at myself for being so hard to please and "bored of Mika" than Mika himself. I hadn't realized that I mostly started negative threads lately. I may have to do a positive one even if he doesn't take me up on my vlog idea. --Jack
