  1. I also don't have MSN and it's sad that this thread is so dead. I'm pretty uninterested in Mika right now so you guys are the only thing that keeps me coming back... So all my exciting things are mostly over for the next little while, and I need to start seriously doing practical things. I am feeling wistful about it though so I thought maybe since this thread is dead anyway, I could share my last month in pictures with you. (Except I think Christine has seen these...) 1. Cupcakes. [photos redacted] 2. Book signing. Since he only signed one item per person, I had his daughter sign my book, ha. --Jack
  2. Hey guys, sorry I haven't been on MFC. :-/ I became unemployed and suddenly acquired a bustling busy social life. I've been flitting up and down the East Coast for the past week and a half--Washington DC, New York, Philadelphia, New York again... Philadelphia again on Tuesday. I met up with a whirlwind of friends in the DC area, fell off a bike and banged myself up, saw local bands, saw my childhood best friend, saw my college best friend, hung out with a bunch of queer punks, a bunch of activists, and a bunch of yuppie lawyers. :-) Followed my favorite living author up the East Coast, met him, am still over the moon about how nice and accessible and charming-witty and everything-you-could-ever-wish-a-celebrity-you-met-with was. Made new friends, got quite drunk quite frequently, spent money I did not have, saw a lot of nightclubs. Attended an absolutely killer goth-glam wedding: the bride wore a red satin ballgown with a mini top hat and black veil, and shiny red high-top sneakers, the groom had a bespoke pinstriped suit and red cravat, and it was carnival-themed and the most fun I've ever had at a reception. All the guests were absolutely beautiful people, both in terms of style and personality, either musicians or artists or pinup models or all three, ha. Except for the money thing, not having a job has been a blast. I haven't had this much fun, seen this many people, read this much for myself, or created this much art in ages. Sadly that does not leave much time for Mika. --Jack
  3. I'm the only one who complains about the non-connection, and that's not really Mika's issue, it's mine. I am just far more invested in personal connection than most people, I think. For people who don't crave audience interaction as much as I do, Mika makes them into fans whatever their place. --Jack
  4. That's not even Russian, that's Ukranian. And while we're at popular misconceptions, this dance move that people keep calling "Russian" is actually Cossack. I see Lena's covered all the rest already. --Jack
  5. Yeah, honestly, I still think he's not particularly camp. But you have to understand, THIS is camp: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0l8WtDFF4uQ --Jack
  6. How silly! He's like, 23rd gayest at best. He is going to have to work pretty hard to even get into the top 10. --Jack
  7. "I do think glam rock has warped me somewhat, because despite all the people crying "gay gay, camp camp!" about his videos, I am not sure I really see it. Oh, camp, yes. But really, they're not half as flamboyantly gay as they could be. And neither is he, in my opinion. I kind of don't really get all the people going "queer queer! Faggot!" on the youtube comments. Though I guess I take them as expected with most singers I like. What irritates me more are all the people defending him from the "accusations" of homosexuality. Whether they take the simple form of "No hes not gay u r dumb!" or "What does it matter? Freddie was gay and he was still a great musician!" they all seem to work on the idea that calling him "gay gay!" is still a bad thing. I've taken to responding with "Yes! gay gay and fabulous!" to such comments, regardless of my own opinion on the matter. " --Me, in April of last year. (Might as well be another person, I was SUCH a giggly fangirl then. Ha.) Me: " Not many journalists are saying anything about the debt his vocal stylings owe to Michael Jackson, who must've also influenced him." Cyprian: ". . . and they've also passed over the cat whose tail got trapped in the tumble dryer, whose influence is quite overbearing. " He ended up registering here. Again, from April of last year. --Jack
  8. Oh, seems like I missed all the fun and moral outrage in this thread. Can I talk about Jesus here even if I'm not Christian? Or should I start my own thread for that? --Jack
  9. That's amazing Marianne! Absolutely top-notch work. IMO he looks most like Mika here: The eyes and eyebrows are great, the nose is right, the skin is good, and the lip color works. I think he got a bit too pink later, tbh... I can't believe how well you reworked the original doll though! Makes me inspired, although I couldn't pull it off... --Jack
  10. Dear Meeks, you can post a blog now, you know. Surely my thread didn't demoralize you THIS much! --Jack
  11. Agreed. Really would've thought Mika would take it better, with a bit more playing-along humor, rather than just getting mad at the poor journalist. --Jack
  12. Can you click on the myspace link? Or else here are two other links: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qlvEqGNg2Aw http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qPNlexY0FsM It's the video for Gym Class Heroes' Cupid's Chokehold. --Jack
  13. But she met Travis even longer ago. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=eiiU-Fky18s Anyway, I know we're all fun and games, and love to speculate about Mika + ____, but when the person in question has a serious boyfriend, I think it's kind of tacky. They're friends, they're having fun, there doesn't have to be sex involved just 'cause they're both attractive. And by the way, my gay best friend and I in college definitely linked hands and walked with our arms about each other's waists and cuddled and all sorts of things like that, ha. As for Adele, I think the fact that we do know that Mika and Katy have been friends for a while and that Katy has a boyfriend has a lot to do with the better reception these pics are getting. --Jack
  14. I like how this has become a quite interesting discussion thread. --Jack
  15. Oh, huh. I had no idea. I stand corrected, then. --Jack
  16. Really? I think that complaint is entirely merited. Whether or not the Muslim girl wears her headscarf has no bearing on how well she can cut hair. What if a bald man had applied for the position--could they deny him the job just because he doesn't have pretty hair to show off, despite the fact that he may be highly skilled? --Jack
  17. You're confusing the two of them, I think. So far, Katy's only well-known in America... and Mika is the one who's famous all over the world. (Less so in the US.) --Jack
  18. Honestly? Well, for one I never liked ham. But for another, any time I wanted to eat meat, I'd ask myself "is my desire to taste meat worth the painful death of an animal that's necessary for me to eat it? Am I willing to say that an animal's life is worth less than my food craving?" And so far the answer has always been "no." But after I had gone a while without eating meat I didn't want any anyway. It's all rather disgusting to me now--stringy and tendony and full of fat clumps and blood clots. I had always been disgusted with how raw meat looked, anyway--now I don't have to eat it! I mean, a chopped up piece of meat looks pretty much like a chunk of an amputated arm or leg or something, doesn't it? And it doesn't get better if you cook it--now it's just a cooked chunk of amputated flesh. --Jack
  19. I REALLY need to start proof-reading my posts again. --Jack
  20. Vegan. And Agnostic-atheist. Thus generally insufferable, haha. --Jack
  21. I went to a Catholic university, but yeah, this happens and is pretty awful. I have actually tried to correct some profs I've seen who did that... the faculty at my current university also tends to assume that everyone is liberal/democrat. I am very liberal, but I've spoken up when some people have made disparaging remarks about conservatives in class, because I feel that's unprofessional. The funny thing about Greek gods... I say I'm atheist, but I actually have some of my own ideas about Greek gods that don't mesh with the general information on them. Despite that, when in class, I make sure to stick to the generally accepted info. What I believe due to personal hunches, etc, is irrelevant. --Jack
