  1. So it looks like site afterelton.com got ahold of the edition of Out with Mika gracing the cover. See story here: http://www.afterelton.com/blog/brianjuergens/mika-post-gay-or-just-post-interesting I appreciate that the comments to this one are at least cohesive thoughts, (as opposed to incoherent rambling on Perez's site) even if I don't agree with them all. I get the feeling that the answer to the question about Mika's sexuality isn't a yes or no question, and as such, the poor guy doesn't want to go into detail about explaining something so personal to, literally, the entire world. Maybe he had a long term relationship with a man, but then realized he was attracted to women. Or vice-versa. Whatever. At least one person on there made the point that it's about his music, and his sexuality isn't relevant to that. Finally - people seem to be getting the point!
  2. Yep. August 18, 1983. And my favourite song honestly changes depending on my mood, but Happy Ending is always up near the top. What kind of assignment is this? For what class?
  3. If he's a girl, then he has horribly small breasts. ...Am I allowed to say that?
  4. Sigh - you're right. Mika just served to reveal a deep-seated craziness that was there all along. Although, it would be nice if a bus stop full of people heard one of his songs and forgot about deadlines and pressures and dollars for three minutes and just started dancing, a la the "Love Today" video.
  5. Does anyone else have this problem? I find that when I'm walking down the street listening to Mika on my iPod - or worse, waiting at a bus stop - it's next to impossible to refrain from dancing to his music. "Love Today" is the worst! Thank you, Mika, a whole bus full of commuters think I'm crazy:biggrin2:
  6. Aww, that was hillarious! If Mika were any cuter, he would be illegal. Seriously. He'd be a controlled substance. You'd get flagged at the airport for trying to board a plane with a copy of Life In Cartoon Motion in your bag. *swoons*
  7. My gay best friend (handy having one of those!) said it should be available in Canada at Indigo and/or Chapters bookstores mid-month. I'm definitely keeping an eye out for it!
  8. I'm sure this article must have been posted on here at some point, but since it's such a well-written piece with tons of interesting info - and because a bunch of people, myself included have only discovered Mika recently, and this was written in February - I thought I'd risk a re-post and throw this one out there: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4156/is_20070204/ai_n17201222/pg_1 Cheers!
  9. I'll look at pictures on Perez's site, but the comments make me want to cry. Like the person who suggested Mika's in it for the money. Gah. Um...selling his CD at $10/pop and concert ticks at $25? Unlikely. And things that are blatantly wrong, like the person who mused about Mika being asexual, and said something like "if he weren't asexual, he'd have references to sexuality on his album"...Um, how about "when they made love he shared the burden of his mind", or "gonna tease no other gonna make you a lover!" It also grates on me how the fact that the vast majority of people who comment on Paris's site are ridiculously inchoherent. If someone were to write, for example, "I don't let my seven-year old son listen to Mika because I'm concerened about Mika's sexuality, and our church forbids homosexuality", then fine. I can respect that, that's your choice. What bothers me is when you get some closed-minded lughead writing something along the lines of "HAHA stupd fagity this guy sux arse OMG what a gay ass homo". I would be willing to bet that people like that are the same sort that teased Mika, and countless other people worldwide, as a child. There was one (or three) in every classroom when I was in school who were like that. I just want to grab people like that and shake them back and forth until they develop an appreciation for a three-plus octave vocal range, and all they see are violet skies and lollipops. Mika, I so don't care if you're gay or straight or somewhere in between. I'm just proud of you and excited for your success, and I hope that eventually, when the time is right, you find love with someone who lifts you up and helps you grow in ways you never anticipated. And if that person happens to be male, come on over to Canada - here, you're free to legally marry a same-sex partner, because love is love, period. </rant>
  10. Naw, Red Bull is yellowish (at least here, anyway), and it doesn't make sense that he'd transfer it to a plastic bottle...this looks more like some kind of reddish juice-type product. I wonder what his aversion is to good old water? It's okay, Mika dear, there aren't any fishies in drinking water!
  11. Okay here's a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tmw5QuAZMXo&mode=related&search= Watch the part where they bring the camera over to where Mika is having his poor toe attended to (and yes, Mika and his toes - that's a whole other thread!) Sitting next to him is a bottle with something red in it...looks kind of like Crystal Light, which is basically just flavoured drink crystals that you toss in a bottle of water. Unlesss...it's blood! And our Mika is a VAMPIRE!!! Well, they do say vampires are beautiful creatures
  12. So I've noticed that Mika seems to often have a bottle of something red at his concerts, and sometimes at interviews and such, as well. Does anyone know what that is? Honestly, it looks like Kool-Aid...?
  13. Has anyone else noticed that the lyrics to some of the songs in the LICM insert are incorrect? I'm not sure how it is in the UK and elsewhere, but here, the insert only has the lyrics for the first few songs. Anyhow, there's typos all over. For example, in Grace Kelly it reads "just to be put on a shelf" when he clearly sings "just to be out on your shelf." And in Lollipop, in places it reads "love's gonna let you down," rather than "love's gonna get you down." There's a few more, too. I wonder what's up with that? On the surface it looks like someone tried to type the lyrics from memory and made some mistakes here and there - but then I started to wonder, I wonder if that was deliberate? A testament to the creative process, or some such notion? Hmm...
  14. Keep in mind that he is sitting on a freakin' piano in that pic...not the most au naturel toe position, eh? I once dated a guy who was 6' 8", and he had superbly long toes. It's all about proportion, people.
  15. Does anyone else find themselves fixating on Mika in totally random ways throughout the day? As in, you're eating fish and you think "hmm, I wonder if Mika prefers cod or halibut?" Or, today I was at Disneyland in California (this is big, seeing as I'm from Canada) and I was musing to myself about whether Mika would have ever been to Disneyland, and if so, does he like rollercoasters? Another crazy trait it mental Mika tracking. The mental chain of thought goes like this: "So Mika played a gig in Sydney, so that's 18 hours ahead of here...so it's 2am where he is...I wonder if he's sleeping? I hope so, I'm sure he could use a good night's rest. I hope his hotel bed is comfortable." Does anyone else ever find their thoughts in these places? Or am I totally bonkers?
  16. My fiance has agreed that - get this - he'd be willing to go to the a Mika concert in any location with direct flights from Calgary (other than London, unfortunately; he wisely pointed out that London doesn't count. Too bad - British Airways launched a direct flight last winter;) So that means Vancouver, Montreal, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Toronto, San Francisco, and a number of others are options! This is me eagerly awaiting news of any fall gigs in those locales...
  17. Go to Google, and type in the following: Define: Mica The resulting definitions are exceedingly amusing. Some of the best: A brittle material found in sheets A group of silicate minerals exhibiting perfect cleavage in one direction. Mineral that occurs in thin sheets and tends to sparkle. Mica is fire proof, infusible, incombustible and non- flammable and can resist temperatures of 600-C to 900-C,depending on the type of mica. ...the fact that I find this so amusing must mean that it's past my bedtime...My brain is turning into MikaMush...
  18. Okay I got one, and I apologize if it's been done before. I can't imagine it's not been, since this is a very common thing for me... Mikanorexia - When you stop eating because spending all your time online searching for Mika news/pics/videos is far more appealing than getting up and cooking food. Sigh.
  19. So I was going to try to toss together something cute and fluffy, but then I started typing and the next thing you know I'd created this , which can best be described as Ode to Mika: Your fingers dance like butterflies across the ivory keys Soft and slow or uplifting, your music speaks to me. In your words I find a solace I so desperately required And your smile makes me melt and sets my tender heart afire. Somewhere along my charcoal road I got caught up in a race Then you came and pulled me down into another time and place Your talent is a gift, your voice a treasure to be heard I share in your elation as you spread it ‘round the world. You know deep in your heart this is the path you were born to take The world that you’ve created is a utopia we can’t shake. I admit that my inner skies were dark, and painted with shades of gray Your watercolor daydream now keeps those dreary clouds at bay. With so much of life so artificial now, everything’s a calculated creation Your art is real and free, and comes from within; that’s the source of your sensation. It inspires me in unseen ways how you connect with what you’ve created And as a result you’ve earned my love, unabashed and unabated. Oh Mika, you must think I’m mad, waxing poetic about you here But you should know how much you’ve touched me; I’d like to make that clear. With the endless trials of everyday life, it’s so easy to get caught It’s so deliciously refreshing to hear someone tell you “why not?†In 23 short years you’ve felt so many things that color your very soul Yet you took those shattered pieces and created something so very whole. As the world spins around you now, like some crazy carousel Make sure you don’t lose sight of the inner spirit you know so well.
  20. If Mika was coming over to your place for supper, what would you cook for him? What special touches would you add? If you live with parents/roomates, let's assume they're gone for the weekend. Methinks I'd make a chicken dish, since he referenced buying chicken in that one interview. Maybe with an apricot glaze, brown rice, and this badass chickpea/bell pepper/sweet potato curry I create. For dessert, chocolate mousse with rasberry coulis. I wonder if he drinks wine...? A nice glass of Riesling, candles on the table. I'm not sure about music...some classical piano, maybe? *swoons*
  21. How about this - Mika's partying advice: "Before you leave on a night out, set your bed up. Undo your bed so it's all ready to jump into when you get home. Pick up your chair by your desk, and put it on top of the bed. Put a glass of water and couple of Aspirins on top of the chair on top of the bed. By the time you stumble home in the morning, you'll have to remove the chair in order to get into your bed because it's IN the bed; and, in order to remove the chair, you have to pick up the glass and the aspirin that are on there. And you'll feel a lot better in the morning."
  22. So I was writing in my personal blog about my newfound Mika passion, and tried to find the words to describe Mika to those who are, sadly, as yet unaware of him and his music. I settled on: "Who is Mika? Take a blender. Throw in a bit of the BeeGees, a splash of Elton John, a touch of Darren Hayes, a dollop of Freddie Mercury, and a cup or so of something totally and exquisitely unique. Hit 'puree', and pour out a watercolor palette of aural fantasmic-ness. In tight orange pants." What do you guys think?
  23. Hi fellow Mika fans! About a month ago I was waiting for the feature film to start at a movie theatre, and the most fabulously random video to the most fabulously wonderful song played - none other than Mika's "Grace Kelly". Came home, looked up the track on iTunes, and realized that I'd found a hidden treasure - the whole album is absolutely, mind-blowingly fantastic. From there I watched hours on hours of interviews and live performances...and fell madly, head-over-heels in love. Wow. Absolutely amazing! That voice! Those eyes! Those hands! Those lyrics! Hell, even his vocabulary charms me. So, now I'm obsessed, and my fiance thinks I need therapy Actually, I just need MIKA!!! I found out he's going to be playing in LA a mere week after I'm going to be there on a holiday, and I almost had a heart attack. SUCH bad timing. Anyhow, I'm glad I've found a community of Mika-obsessed people just like myself. Cheers, all!
