  1. MTV UK posted a short review of the Manchester gig here:http://www.mtv.co.uk/channel/mtvuk/28062007/mika_in_manchester Looks like the forum ate it the first time I tried to post it - my apologies! Exclusive: The Grace Kelly singer tells us he’s teaming up with The Gossip’s Beth Ditto at a gig for Vodafone TBA … Mika played an ultra secret show in Manchester last night and gave us an exclusive interview. Speaking before the show the flamboyant star told us: “I like doing all different types of gigs to shake things up. It’s important to make shows fun.†And when we asked if he was a fan of The Gossip Mika- whose new single is called Big Girl- said: “Beth Ditto is immense she’s one of the most enigmatic lead women in the world at the moment. “We’re trying to do a duet together at one of the festivals this summer. We’re just gonna see if we can pull it off logistically.†The singer of hits like Love Today asked fans to arrive at the Great Northern Square venue in fancy dress. We spotted a gorilla, two Red Indians, clowns and much more in the crowd. Mika’s gig was taking place for Vodafone as part of their TBA series of live shows. 2. Not if I get to him first!! Although, Jemma's in the UK, isn't she. I might be at a bit of a disadvantage...
  3. *adopts a stern, motherly voice* Mika Penniman! Slow down, boy! You seem to be getting sick an awful lot! My tips: 1) Eat more fruits and vegetables! I'm sure your schedule is so crazy sometimes you can barely eat at all, but please, try hard to eat right! Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc. And try to avoid fake foodstuffs like aspartame, colorants, glucose-fructose, etc. Those tax your immune system. 2) Swap your Earl Grey for some echinacea tea every now and then...it could help fend off infections. 3) However often you're washing your hands, wash them three times as often! (Not to imply that Mika doesn't wash his hands, of course, but huge lineups of people and airplanes and such aren't exactly sanitary). Take care of yourself, Mika! Although, I'm sure your mother/sisters/aunties are telling you that already.
  4. Quite obviously, in means that Mika is, in fact, a Finnish cat.
  5. Ahh that looked absolutely amazing! I think I would have sold a few of my teeth to be there. Or a toe, perhaps. That stage must have felt so itsy-bitsy to him after Glastonbury...
  6. I didn't even consider the possibility of him scheduling an interview or something. Wow. I really hope he finds time to get a bit of rest.
  7. Notice that on Mikasounds, there's a link to the Big Girl performance at Glastonbury: http://www.mikasounds.com/uk.php Notice the link that's provided on the website to view the performance - a YouTube vid uploaded by one of our own! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmr2P0nGenk Let's all unite under love of Mika!
  8. Oh and another thing; by the looks of the page below, transatlantic flights don't fly directly into the Göteborg airport: http://www.goteborgairport.se/eng/info/resenaerer/destinations.asp Which means they'd need to factor in a change of planes in Paris or London or Stockholm or something. Unless he really does have a private jet, which I highly doubt - especially because according to the article linked below, even Prince Harry flies on British Airways. And something tells me the third in line to the British throne has a few more dollars (or pounds, perhaps?) than Mika: http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/story.html?id=3320d646-9615-4eee-a667-e49e97077522 Sooo confusing!I really feel bad for all of you with tickets to any of these gigs
  9. This is a kind of me rambling whilst trying to work this out in my head, so bear with me... If he's supposed to play New York at 7:30am on the 10th, that's 1:30pm on the 10th in Sweden. Assuming he's supposed to be playing in the evening in Sweden (say, 8pm) that's about 2pm in New York - which, by the sounds of it, is when he'll be in transition between New York and Quebec. He's playing Quebec at what time, 8:30? So assuming he gets on a plane at 11pm (which is 5am in Sweden) and a 7 hour flight, he'd feasibly arrive in Sweden at noon on the 11th. Which is basically enough time to shower, do a sound check, eat something, and get his butt on stage. If that is how his people are planning for it to go down, I hope they realize that from 6am EDT on the 10th to 5pm EDT on the 11th (a 35 hour timespan), the only time he (not to mention his bandmates!) could possibly sleep is on planes from NYC -> Quebec and Quebec -> Sweden. Even disregarding Quebec, he'd leave NYC at, say, 10am EDT on the 10th(4pm in Sweden), and arrive 7 hours later (11pm in Sweden). That doesn't make sense. To me, it seems there is no feasible way for him to do GMA and play Sweden on the 10th. And if he does play Quebec in the evening of the 10th, even appearing in Sweden on the 11th would be a longshot. Which means that, in all probability, either fans in Quebec or fans in Sweden will be disappointed. And, if one or the other of those gigs appears on Mikasounds or his Myspace, we'll know who's going to be let down! It definitely seems like someone in charge of his schedule is very much asleep at the wheel. Does this make sense? I admit that timezone math can get complicated
  10. I think it's all in the wording. Someone needs to ask him "was your legal birthname actually Michael?" We all know for all practical purposes that he's gone by "Mica" for a while now, as is evident in that younger picture of him from his opera days. The grayness in that Aussie interview stems from the fact that he uses the phrase "my father wanted me to be called Michael, and my mother said over her dead body." Does he mean called as in legally named, or called as in referred to on a day-to-day basis? However he has said before that he doesn't like to talk about his surname, so maybe the same applies to legal birthname. Journalists make mistakes regularly, though - see the handful of articles that say he's already 24 years old. Either way, Mika is a far prettier name than Michael, methinks!
  11. Argh, I also thought for a sec that he was coming back! Toronto is just a wee little plane ride - I would so do that! Great pic, though - his eyes are mesmerizing.
  12. As fabulous as it would be to have Mika all to myself for such a length of time, it would be very bad for me to be stuck in an elevator with him, because I have a ridiculous fear of elevators - I avoid them whenever possible. However, if I were to arrange this, I would bring: 1) Some sort of port-o-potty, because I have to pee all the time! 2) A cooler full of cold cuts and bread so we didn't starve 3) A 400 page pictorial encyclopedia on the history of toys to keep us occupied! Mika, if you ever see me walking up to you toting a port-o-potty, a cooler, and a huge book, I suggest you run:naughty:
  13. When I first discovered Mika, I thought "I have to join his fan club." This site is what I found - it's the best! Sign me up
  14. I love Cats. But, I'm a big 'ol musicals geek. *sings* Skimbleshanks the railwaaay caaat! The cat of the raaiilllway traiiin!
  15. Keep in mind there was that blog entry of his that he apparently wrote in a plane last spring (on his way to South by Southwest, I think). He detailed how the passengers around him were getting mad at him for being bouncy, and the flight attendants as well...granted this was a few months ago. Sorry I don't have a linky But yes, he does need a much more competent scheduler person.
  16. Can you imgaine a Mika/Dolly Parton duet? They could make beautiful music together on an updated rendition of her classic "I Will Always Love You".
  17. Bwahaha the Mensa lounge! Hehe. That rocked my socks!
  18. Cats as in, the musical? That is freaking' cool! Why do cool musicians always forget that Western Canada exists? Sigh. Have fun, gals who are going!
  19. The secret to figuring out confuzzling Mika lyrics is to dig up a live/acoustic version. In this version of "Love Today" I'm 99.9% sure he says "Little tight." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAFp5XjOpZA Cheers!
  20. *Goes out and buys an economy-sized pack of frilly blue knickers* It's a pack of 20! Any takers?? Ah, I love how this thread is what, 40-ish pages? And yet the face-between-big-girl decolletage in the music video didn't even get its own thread. Sigh.
  21. Okay so I might be misled, but from what I understand there was some kind of contest to win the opportunity to be married at last weekend's Glastonbury music festival. And I further understand that Mika was lined up to plan the winner's hen party (AKA "stagette" or "bachelorette party" in North-America-speak). Methinks this Fiona lass was said winner. Anyone got more info (or corrections if I'm on the wrong track?)
  22. Hi all, Sorry if these have been posted already; did a quick search, but since I'm technically supposed to be working, I can't really do an elaborate search The original link is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/glastonbury/2007/radio1/saturday/15.shtml#photo Mika is in charge of Fiona's hen do - he starts off by showing off his muddy wellies! These cocktails are boring, we need something to make this hen do more rock and roll! Yay! Let's go roller skating at the disco! Now it's a proper hen do with L plates and everything - thank you Mika!
  23. If it did come to light that they were together, I'd be quite satisfied! Particularly in the face of the handful of journalists who mocked the song "Big Girl" and sneered that Mika is a total poser because, well, he can wax about big girls being beautiful and all, but being entirely, flamingly gay, would never put his money where his mouth is, so to speak. That and, I also think it would be nice if he was involved with someone who's part of his tour (although not Martin, 'cause then Martin would have to go all Billy Brown on his wife and that would just be complicated!!) Mika did say in that one interview that he only ever had one really serious relationship and that it ended badly, so if he does get to share this crazy time in his life with someone special, I say good on him! And, is it just me, or is the way Mika dances with the big girls - all kissing aside - strangely, fascinatingly sensual? Especially the Glastonbury footage - I felt pleasantly voyeuristic watching it!
