  1. Same feeling here : I don't think he sounds english at all when he speaks french. You can just tell that he's not practising it enough, so sometimes, he won't find his words or use a litteral translation of what he's thinking in english. But "musically" he sounds pretty french to my ear... I certainly can't hear the typical english accent !
  2. This language and pronunciation thread just reminded me on something... It goes back to last year, when Mika played in the Trabendo, in Paris. He was on a french tv show, called "On a tout essayé" with french interviewer Laurent Ruquier. At one point, Laurent Ruquier talked about Will Smith, which he pronounced in the most typically and horribly french way... something like Will Smisss And it was really funny because, at first Mika didn't understand who he was talking about, and then, when he finally got it, he showed Ruquier how to pronounce Smith properly . And I remember thinking : It's funny, anyone doing this on a live Tv show could have sounded horribly arrogant and pedant, but this guy just sounds absolutely adorable ! There was something so simple and genuinely "I'm just trying to help" about his way of doing it... I guess that's one of the first things that made me like Mika... After, of course, I heard him singing...
  3. I think my father likes Mika, although he'll never admit it But each time I play Mika in the car it's ok, unlike almost any other music I try to have him listen to... My father is 63 and swears only by classical music... So I guess it really means something And if my grandmother was still there, she'd sure love Mika !! She was a great piano player and the most anticonformist and free person I ever knew.. In fact, I guess she would recognise a lot of herself in him.. I do
  4. Wow, this sounds very interesting to me ( I love these accent issues ) but I don't have a clue of what it means !! Do you mean not pronouncing the "t" somewhere ?
  5. hehe, I know what you mean !!! can be very embarassing when people look at you like " Are you making a fool of me or what ??? " But yes, it's very useful sometimes.. I was travelling in India a couple of years ago and I think it saved my life ! Being able to pronounce "seperrate blak tee" in order to be understood is precious !! lol !!!
  6. I think I can remember an interview where he said that his accent was in fact constantly changing, because he had so many influences, and he was still trying to stabilize it... I think I can understand what he means : I'm french, I learnt english from the age of 4 and had english teachers coming from US, England, New Zealand and Australia... So my accent is a mess !! And I noticed that after a little while, I kind of take the accent of the person I'm talking to... It's a bit strange... I call this my chameleon accent !
  7. My two cents : as a native french speaker, I can say he has a very nice french accent. In fact, to my ear, he has almost no accent at all. He sounds pretty "parisian" but he also somewhat speaks like a little kid. This matter was discussed in another very interesting thread (cant' find it right now, sorry !!! ), where a MFCer, who was studying language sciences, explained us that it came from the fact that he had left France when he was nine, so his french is somewhat "stuck" to this point. In fact, his voice actually sounds a little bit higher pitched when he speaks french, and there's aslo a certain "shyness" which I don't hear when he speaks english ( but, then, english in not my first language, so I may me missing things...) Anyway, to sum it up, his french is very good, he makes very few mistakes and sounds absolutely cute !!
  8. I've listened to the Lille version again and again ( oooh, reaaally ?? ) , and, finally, this is what I hear in the second verse... There's a girl Her mama's gone she found another man and couldn't carry (on) Now she cries Every day To forget about her mother she runs away
  9. I'm not sure it makes sense, but actually hear In this life, we're here on earth to loose what belongs and get what hurts I'm not a boy to forget it all Gotta learn every minute, every hour more " from the beginning, even in the Lille version...
  10. Bravo !!! Juste comme ça, pour le dire !! Parce que c'est pas rien !! Continue !!! Otherwise, I have the feeling he wears contact lenses most of the time, but sometimes glasses, maybe just to rest his eyes. That's what I do too..
  11. hi Chris ! Peace, Love and welcome ! As Sasje said very well, I think you should keep in mind that Mika is not Mickey Mouse and that, to begin with, a pop concert is not exactly a place to take small children, regardless to the type of performance. It's far too noisy anyway for young kids fragile ears !! 2 : Just because the shows ends up with balloons falling from the ceiling does not mean it has to be suitable for any type of audience ! Again, like Sasje says, everyone's reponsible for his own choices. I could suggest you to take the kids see Bambi instead, but I'm afraid it's even less suitable !! Personnally, it left me traumatized ! Oh, and did I say welcome ?
  12. Right !!! Perfect angle and perfect moment !! Wow !! It's amazing !!

  15. Well, I like the words "happy accident" !! Means the lovely locks are coming back soon, huh ? Not that I dislike the straight hair !! And I'm not thaaat fond of tight curls either, but, you know, just the natural slightly messy mikaish look... like :wub2: :wub2: ...faints...
  16. It's you sigh If guys around here really looked this way, do you think I'd be sitting in front of my computer instead of running down the streets like crazy ???
  17. Signed it I want the lovely curly locks back !!! By the way, the guy knows how to start a buzz
  18. Oh please !! Don't ruin my dream with your logical explanations
  19. Well there actually is a gig in Paris on october 24 ( at least I hope so for the people who managed to get tickets ) Maybe the juste erased it because it was sold out before I could get mine and they didn't want me to get anymore uspet... This is sooo sweet
  20. The worst thing is that some people seem to have been buying dozens of tickets without any intention of actually going to the concert. And this morning you could already find them on E-bay, for twice or three times the price !! this is sick !!
  21. There will be another gig in Paris, on october 24, in addition to the first one, on october 10. And yesterday was actually the first day when you could get tickets... But..... Everything was sold out in a couple of hours !!! And who was at work during that time ??? Excatly like for the first gig ??? Meeeeee !!!!! :crybaby: It's a curse !! Shall I ever get a chance to see Mica onstage without dropping my job ??? :crybaby:
  22. Hi, I don't write here that often, but I happened to read this thread and it made me laugh a lot !! IngieVv, I really think it was brilliant, creative, made for fun and that really no harm was being meant. I remember a sentence on Mika's myspace that said something like " I apologise to the people whose stories and characters I borrowed. Remember, It's only a caricature." I think that's exactly what we're talking about, and it's not crime ! And if IngieVv doesn't feel comfortable about showing this stuff to Mika, it's her choice and no one has the right to call her offensive names for that ! ( Yes, you know who you are ) especially not us, who have been reading it and laughing our heads off to it !! By the way, Ingie, I really think you have a true talent and should keep on writing.. just maybe about other subjects
