  12. [blog post i did right after the concert when i was home!] I came in the morning, and there was a short queue outside the Max Pavillion, and while i was on my way there I finally met BlueSky, and you're absolutely lovely, Bluesky! she was with NikJass, crossing the road when i met them I made friends with a whole BUNCH of fans who were queuing, and they're all really lovely people. At about 2+ the door next to us started rattling, and someone was trying to come out - and when they finally got the door open, it was none other than Mika's mother! She came out holding a glue gun and some glue sticks, and asked for people who have used a glue gun before, to help set up the stage design, and four/five of them volunteered, and they were gone a long long time. She also told us she needed big girls and lollipop girls, and three strong boys, and i was like 'OMGOMGOMG' inside! She also told us she LOVES Singapore, because we're not ashamed about eating! which is quite true. we do enjoy our food here TTM! She's the sweetest woman i've ever met. In the mean time, nikjass took a video of us dancing to kickass in the queue and on the nearby grass slope! it was crazily fun. then the security guards shifted us to a proper queue line, and the MFCers got called out. The Lushington Entertainment guy who was at the airport recognised me (i think, because he smiled at me) so that was nice. He came out to tell BlueSky that Mika's manager, John, was coming in about 20 minutes. We sat in a circle and passed around food to be cleared, then Maria from the production team came out, and asked for volunteers for lollipop girls and big girls, so I immediately sprang up and said ME ME ME which was quite shameless, but she did chose me and melissa who was standing next to me, probably because we were around the same height. They picked the others, and then we got to go in first. ^^ the two girls, Natalie and Ru Ting - who were glue gunning - came out with Maria, and they already signed on to be lollipop girls. at that point i couldn't believe this was happening, and i was all excited inside! I think I rubbed some of my enthusiasm on Ru Ting, because she told me she wasn't so excited until she came out to meet us. We showed the people at the door our tickets, and then we lingered around in the entrance for awhile, then Maria led us very quickly through the corridor which turns right into the seating area. The staged was flooded with blue lighting, making it look quite eerie, especially with the giant trees at both sides of the stage. the standing area looked pretty small when we hurried past. Natalie knocked down a fire extinguisher in the dark HAHAHA XD Then we came into this area where there were rooms, i peeked in the first one and saw Martin Waugh the guitarist and the bassist Jimmy Sims just chilling and using laptops. we were asked to stand in a line, and then Maria gave us our instructions for what we were to do. We had to march across the stage according to Cherisse's drumbeat, in the middle of two songs. She left us chanting 'LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT' up and down the corridor outside the rooms, and we felt quite silly until she came back out to get us. she brought me and another girl into the dressing room first, to see our sizes. On the left wall of the dressing room were suitcases all opened and spilling with clothes and shoes and hats, most of which i recognised were the band costume and some of mika's costume. on the right there was a clothes rack where the lollipop girl dresses were hanging, with mika's tailcoat and a wedding dress. there was a couple of people at either ends of the room working at a sewing machine, probably hired by Lushington, because one lady didn't know Mika AT ALL. but the most important person in the room was Mika's mum! after looking at the other girl and me for a bit, she said we would fit, so we went out again to join the rest. We talked to a guy who a driver, part of Lushington, and he told us the musicians he had worked with over the years - Linkin Park, Green Day etc. Later at the end of the gig when we were waiting in the carpark for Mika to come out together with about 50 other fans, he did recognise us! In the end, Mika's mum came out anyways, to look at the other people. Then we went into the room altogether, and put our bags down and people went to the bathroom while i chose to stay in the room to absorb as much as possible. I couldn't believe I was in the same room as all the lovely costumes - when they opened the box for the big girl costumes, all of us around the box were like - 'WOOOOOOOWWW!'. And it was so kewl to be in the same room as Mika's totally awesome mother who makes all these costumes. Then Yasmine, the only female 'celebrity' who i'm really inspired by, came into the room with her cute short bob haircut and a LOVELY off-shoulder flowery dress, and she was wearing a fluffy petticoat underneath, something like the lollipop girl petticoat, so the skirt was poofy. She and Mika really look alike - the eyes and the nose - and she's beautiful. *_* I felt so excited putting on the petticoat and the familiar pink dress on, and i really liked the petticoat! Mika's mum was sitting in a hair and we went to her to do up the back hooks on the dress. Yasmine called us all together in the dressing room and told us about the dancing in Lollipop - and she said basically, Mika will be REAAAALLY upset if you don't move. and then she told us to do big actions, and not just shuffle around, and told the lollipopers to use our skirts because they're really good for dancing! the lollipopers were all bundled up in black cloaks that velcro-ed down, while the big girls had to wrap the black cloth like a bathrobe, so they looked pretty naked underneath the black cloth. and then we were sent back into the standing crowd and told to come out when Blame It On The Girls started. When we came out as a group people STARED at us because we looked so weird with the black covering! The right side of the stage was dominated by pre-teen french people, and i was SERIOUSLY getting really irritated with them, so Ru Ting, another girl and I squeezed our way through so that we were in the fourth row from the barriers, near the middle. I was glad to see that the MFCers all had barrier spots in the front, which was great! The nice thing i noticed about Mika's concert was that i wasn't like - 'OMGIT'SHIM', but when he came on stage behind the stairs in the middle on the stage, it was like - 'YAY!' but there wasn't any 'surrealness' in a sense. It was like so comfortable to see him on stage? and he was seriously way up close too. <3 I was about the only one in the row who knew ALL the lyrics to the songs. this girl infront of me was looking at me, concluding that i was a hardcore fan. well. i am. AND, I HAVE A LOLLIPOP COSTUME UNDERNEATH. ;D There was a cute acting scene in the middle where Mika did a perfect imitation of a trumpet with his voice, and i filmed that bit, because it was too cute! I jumped and danced and screamed and shouted the lyrics all through the songs until Blame It On The Girls came on, then we squeezed our way back out. I was super-duper high already, and i was mad-flailing my arms when i came out of the standing area to the meeting place, and I only stopped when i saw Yasmine looking at me. so we went round backstage and we could see the crowd and all and the back of the band, and we were told to take off our black cloaks. We were given wigs with veils attached to them, with flowers hanging on the veils, and because of the UV lighting, everything was a strange eerie glowy colour. we hung around backstage for a bit, through a couple of songs. Mika's mother was sitting next to where i was standing, and because i was veiled, she couldn't see me observing her. there was a giant screen backstage, showing the gig from the cameras, and she was watching her son performing on stage. He was singing Over My Shoulder, and there was a close-up of Mika's face. I was looking at Joanie and I was thinking - wow. she must be SO SO SO VERY proud of her son, who grew up doing what he loved, and becoming more successful over the years. She was also tapping her feet to one of the songs. On cue when one of the songs ended, Mika's mum stood up and started looking at the costumes. Yasmine was also looking at our dresses as she walked past. I love how Mika has his family to support him backstage. I think he's really really fortunate for that, and that family-ness really contributes to his entire show. somehow the wig didn't really fit me, and Maria put mine on weirdly, so the long part of the veil was all bunched in front. Joanie came over to me and arranged my veil, and there was a huge sunflower on the veil in the middle of my view, and she was asking if i could see :3 ahhh she's so motherly and calm and - i would mind being around her all day. on Maria's cue, we went on stage to do the march across. as i stepped on i was like ZOMG AWESOME to myself. Mika was sitting on the steps in the middle on the stage, and as we marched past, i looked at him out of the corner of my eye <3 then we waited on stage left, dancing to the remaining songs, and also peeking at Mika changing his clothes on stage right through the metal structures below the stage. He's mighty fit, i tell ya. Maria came over on the song before Lollipop, and split us into two groups, and i went with her to stage right. John the manager was there, and i smiled at him while waiting for our cue. John cued us in, and we were a bit late because he did a small gesture, but we didn't get it, so he had to mouth - 'go, GO!!' so we jumped on stage! I looked out at the crowd and they all went WHOOOOO when we came out, and i saw the MFCers all the way up front and they were totally ENTHRALLED. I looked out at the crowd and they were all smiling and happy and jumping, and midway through everything i thought - wow. I threw my arms in the air and started clapping to the beat - and the people in the standing area all started clapping! They were crazy and energetic and superbly AWESOME - i finally understood what performers mean when they get their energy from the crowd. of course all through that i was dancing, throwing my fluffy skirts around, and i was looking around for people to interact with - then Jimmy Sims the bassist came over and was playing his bass in this WOAH ROCK STAR way, and so i stepped to him and started air bass-ing with him, which is probably the KEWLEST THING I'VE EVER DONE. Mika was walking really fast across the stage in front of us, so I couldn't do anything but do wavy hands at his back when he walked past - there was once he walked from my left, and i looked at him and he looked at me and there was brief eye contact before he walked past - which was hmm strange - maybe because i was a bit OTT. but OTT is good HAHA! or maybe it was my lopsided wig that made me look like a strange asian girl with a hay stack on her head. I danced like crazeh, and held both hands with Natalie and we spun around for a bit - until her wig nearly flew off! I also waved crazily at BlueSky, who waved crazily back XD Then the song ended - the 'false' ending at least, because Mika always does the lollipop instrumental after that with the funky drum beats, and i clapped my hands in his direction as he was saying goodbye to the audience, and then when the instrumental came in, i started dancing again, and then i ventured up front a little and looked at Mika, and he looked at me and I think i gave him this ridiculously happy grin - and then the next thought in my head was - omg i should HUG HIM - but wait, lollipop girls don't hug Mika - OH BUT WAIT WHAT IS THIS, HE'S PUTTING HIS LEFT ARM AROUND MY SHOULDERS OMFG. when he did that the crowd went like twice as mad. I heard some girls in the front going OH MY GAWD! I had my arm around his incredibly slim waist and could feel the ruffly leaves sewn on his white waist-coat, and then the other lollipopers and mardi gras people and big girls + band members linked up too and I waved at the audience and then with my arm still around Mika and his arm still around my shoulder, we took a deep bow! and then after that it was all strange because we didn't know where to go, but we got herded down stage and clumped in a corner, until someone else signalled us to go up again - upon which i ditched my falling off wig and it was all a rush, then got on with my hair all over. the band members were all still on stage, and they played a recording of kickass, and started doing THEIR KICK ASS DANCE, I LOVED IT! we took the dancing cues quite easily, and followed their dance moves! I could see they were having ALOT of fun. more dancing, more flouncing, clapping, then we were herded off the stage again, and as we rushed past Mika who was hanging backstage, I heard him say - 'is it over? is this the end?' Apparently he didn't quite have enough, so he went back on to sing THREE more songs, and we were backstage singing along and dancing as well. His pants was totally dropping at the back and us backstage were laughing XD Martin Waugh's guitar tech was on stage left where we were, and during one song (before we went up for lollipop, actually) his guitar tech danced away from him the guitar and Martin was trying to snatch it, but couldn't, and we were all laughing too, because they were so cute. Apparently some of the MFCers threw a box on stage filled with things for mika, but it fell open and all the stuff came out, and Martin spotted the bar of chocolate and ate it on the spot. HAHAHA MARTIN. <3 he ended with relax, and even before the band ended the song he ran off stage and took his stuff and got to his dressing room. We were all hoping for a photo with him, or maybe he would come talk to us, but he didn't - we got lots of adorable time with his mother though! She gave us korean biscuits that she probably had too much to carry, and then i hugged her and said thank you SO MUCH and she was so sweet and nice and lovely! <3 We were able to get things signed, Maria took our stuff to him to be signed. because i couldn't dig out my ticket, i handed my 'A Midsummers Night Dream' book to be signed - which is pretty weird but kewl. Ru Ting lost her camera, so Natalie followed her to hunt for it around the stage, but they couldn't find it, so John came in to deal with it, while Maria led us out of the venue to the carpark lots - where there were about 50 people waiting for Mika. BlueSky, NikJass, Natalie and Ru Ting had the chance to go to meet him and talk to him and take a photo with him which was really kewl, i wish i could have been there too... well i was pretty sad because i really wanted to thank him for the experience but when he came out 30 minutes later and came down the line, he only stopped for a while to sign my ticket so all i could get in was - 'i was a lollipop girl just now, ireallyenjoyeditthankyou' and he only said - 'oh really?' and then he moved on to sign someone's old passport - but i think he was really tired and there were so many other people there too - the hectic life of a performer! He told the guy with the passport that it was the first time he ever signed a passport. Then it was the last i saw of him, he went into the car and they drove off. and that was it. He came and went like the summer breeze. _________________ I do realise i elaborate more on the backstage stuff, but watching from backstage we couldn't really see the performance clearly for the last couple of songs, but for the first half of the concert i really liked the visuals on the round screen, the giant Big Girl leg, the pizza box he threw out into the crowd, the cracked glass piano <3 and his leg up on the piano which reminded me of Lady Gaga, and the band's costumes!
