You Must Have Had a Good Time if You Find Confetti in Your Underwear

Yes, when I got back to the hotel last night and went to the bathroom (FINALLY, after hours of waiting!), I had pink, blue, white and yellow

rectangular paper strips in my undies. How did that happen? Well... who

knows? It was, as they say, a Mika Miracle! :naughty:

You're so right, girls! :naughty:

OK, so... where was I? A quick recap of our story so far:

Queue ---> cold cold cold

Jerry ---> cool cool cool

Cocoa ---> hot hot hot

Mika ---> !!!! (I just can't come up with a good enough adjective!)

OK, so that takes me up to the show itself, I think...

It was no surprise that most of the front row was MFC members --

as I said before, they were nearly all at the front of the queue! It was

kinda cool to be able to look around the stage and see familiar faces.

As I think I also said elsewhere (sorry, don't remember what I've already

written -- as it WAS Super Bowl Sunday and I might have had something to

drink last night :wink2: ) I agree with Jack that the show felt rushed.

The energy level of the crowd was amazing, but you can tell from tootch's

posts based on my calls to her that the show started 9:15 and ended

around 10:30. That's about 20 minutes shorter than Glasgow, IIRC.

There was little talking between songs, and although he did draw out

a few songs a little, it was not to the extent that he did in Glasgow

for sure.

But, that criticism aside -- it was a great, high-energy show and he

did give 1000 percent in every other way. Things I noticed or that

were highlights for me:

-- At the beginning of Big Girl, where he usually says, "Are there any

Big Girls in the house tonight?" -- well, he said that, and then he added,

"Are there any Big BOYS who have the *souls* of a Big Girl in the

house tonight?" I wondered if he was directing that to Perez? :wink2:

-- Dropping the mike during Big Girl was hysterical.

I mean, he held it out for the crowd to sing as usual, and it just went flying

out of his hand and down into the pit.

For a second, he had a look of "I can't believe that just happened!" then

he looked out into the crowd, smiled broadly and shrugged. He also

dropped the mike when I saw him in DC in June and was a little flustered

by it. Not Saturday. It was just

one time where I noticed how much his confidence has grown -- there

were a number of others. It's to be expected, sure, with all the experience

he's had now -- just interesting to observe.

-- I was so surprised by the way he actually reached

out to touch hands with the audience

while singing. In the previous shows I've seen it was almost as if he was

afraid to do that -- and the audiences were smaller and much closer then,

without gaps between the stage and the crowd. At one point, he reached

out and touched my hand and that of the girl next to me -- I had visions

of him falling headfirst into the pit!

-- In Billy Brown, he totally omitted the Tommy Mottola story, which

made me wonder if there were some industry executives watching up

in the VIP area, and so he thought better of it? And at

the end of Billy Brown, where he has the audience finish the last

line? When the word "MAN" was sung, he nodded with this huge sort

of smug smile on his face. I wish I'd been able to capture the look, but

didn't have my camera ready.

-- At one point Mika's microphone cord got wrapped around a stand that

had those flowers on it. He tugged at it, but it didn't come free and he

didn't notice. But I saw Mikey take a step forward and nod toward a crew

member to come out and take care of it. It was just a little thing, but

I thought it was interesting to see how aware he was of what was going

on around the stage, not just in his own little corner...

-- About texting/phoning during the show... I really wanted tootch and

everyone at home to feel connected. I know how amazing it's been for

me when I was desperate for news, and I just wanted to give a little

back. I hope it helped anyone who needed a Mika fix! And Sarie -- I

was devastated when I realized I didn't have your cell number. I had

typed a text out to you (asking how late I could call you)

and was about to send it... and your number

wasn't in my phone! I specifically programmed it in as soon as I got

it from you, so I don't know what happened -- I must have saved it

wrong. I am so sorry. I had good intentions, really! :(

-- About Mika pulling folks on stage... OK, I think I said this elsewhere,

too, but while it may have been a good idea in theory it was just

DANGEROUS in reality. Seriously, so many people could have been crushed

or trampled. Security was right in trying to hold people back, I just

wish someone could have gotten the crowd to stop charging forward.

As someone who was pinned against the barricade for nearly 10 minutes,

I can tell you it was NOT fun. It would have been better if it had

been coordinated in advance -- maybe not quite as spontaneous, but

I don't think Mika or his management would be happy to have someone's

injury or worse on their conscience.

Hmm... I think that's all I wanted to say about the show itself. For now at

least. Until my brain kicks back in gear properly. A few photos to follow in

a separate post...

:blush-anim-cl: Thanks so much, Titty! I've never been

called a star before :) I'm loving your pics, too --

I just KNEW you were going to have some fantastic ones.

I'm so glad we met and that we shared the experience -- it was

special, indeed! One of my highlights of the weekend was going for

coffee with you! :thumb_yello:

thanks deb!! I love your report and your pics are amazing!! yeah you took a pic of véro :thumb_yello: I think it's the first one from NY that I see

I tried to take more pics of Vero and the others on stage, but those

dam* balloons kept getting in the way, hitting me on the head.

I have lots of photos of them! :sneaky2:

But Vero was a wonderful Lollipop Girl -- I think she's planning on

turning professional :naughty:

thank you deb! i was looking forward to your report & you did not deceive me!

glad you had a good time. are you going to other venues as well?

Sadly, not this time around. Going to New York cost a small fortune,

actually, and I feel pretty guilty about splurging so much for just one

show. When he comes back to the states, hopefully he'll come to DC

again... and maybe if he goes to Orlando I can tie it in with a business

trip :wink2:

Pot? Really? I didn't see any of that going on...

But yes, it was scary at the end there. Glad you survived!

Cute baby in your sig, btw :)

OMG Debbie, I smelled something , but I wanted believe that, this does not have anything to do with Mika`s music and messages! I am sad for that!!!!

I smelled some where we were. Smelled like skunk.

Has anyone heard from HollyD ?

I felt like I had a hangover yesterday. Headache all day, tired as hell. I was dehydrated and I had drank some water and had had other liquids and food.

but HollyD was like a sentinel and did not leave her post from the time we got there at about 1:00.

So I am concerned.

He did that in Philly too--it's a cool addition. Guess he doesn't want the boys to feel left out! :punk: :punk: Hahah, maybe Perez was there too?

And by the way, he repeated the radio thing again! :wink2: I said that he was going to start saying it everywhere now, sigh...

Dropping the mic during Big Girl

That and the fact that he couldn't stop laughing during HJ were definitely fun highlights. I was especially amused that he kept giggling while trying to sing "What was left was not so funny."

About the post-show --

It took us quite a long time to get out of the venue -- as I said, I was

pinned against the barricade for ages, people just weren't shifting, as

though they thought Mika might come back out and pull them up

on stage, too.

Finally, security got really serious about clearing us out and we shuffled

our way toward the exit. I could see Andy up against the wall near the

door -- couldn't tell if people were keeping him there or he was just trying

to hide, but when I got close enough I stopped and spoke to him for a

few minutes. When I told him I'd met him in Glasgow he said, "of course,"

but I'm sure he didn't remember me, and he added, "that was a brilliant gig. But

I think this was better tonight, don't you? What do you think?" And so

we talked a bit and then security moved me along... BTW, I think Andy

must have told some kids his name was Mike, and some that it was

Edgar, because whenever he would appear, they were calling out

those two names :naughty:

Although they were still selling merchandise -- and they had some

additional items this time around, including a knit cap -- security

wasn't allowing anyone else to stop, forcing them to head outside.

Once we got there, I asked a security guy where Mika would come out

and he directed me on the complete other side of the building. So

we walked -- it was about 11 by the time we got there and there

was already a good group of people waiting, not all MFC. As we

huddled there waiting and wondering how long Mika might be, Vero

appeared -- said she had been kicked out, because Mika had about 200

VIPs to greet! Yikes! So we figured we were in for a long wait, and

thought maybe the band would come out... and we waited and we waited,

and at one point I looked to my left and saw Martin, head down, walking

down the street, and then he got into a van... which just sat there.

Didn't go anywhere. There was an SUV directly across from us, and

there was a woman who looked like Mika's mother (but wasn't her, so

maybe a sister?) and a few other people we figured must be family,

also waiting. We just chatted while we watched the gear getting loaded

onto a big truck and hoped that it wouldn't be much longer... it

couldn't be much longer now, could it?

Finally, Perez Hilton came out wearing a multi-colored hoodie -- I was so

distracted by him, that I totally missed Katy Perry. :( I started to

make my way over to try to say hi to Perez when I noticed Mika walking

straight toward me -- hmm, Perez or Mika? Yeah, that was a tough choice.

So Mika came and saw Kate and took her DVD and signed it

very quickly, just a big M I think, nothing personalized. Then he took a

quick sidestep to stand in front of me and I gave him a little card I had

for him, and I actually remembered to say my name this time!

And then he shook my hand and looked into my eyes and spoke words that

melt a fangirl's heart: "We've met before. Glasgow."

*thunk* That's the sound of me falling over...which I did inwardly, but

somehow didn't in reality.

I told him yes, and in DC, too, and then I must have

said something else, but I'm not sure what...

and I wanted to say more, but then someone else

was saying Mika Mika Mika and handing him something to sign, and

he went into this very methodical mode. Sidestep, sign, sidestep,

sign, smile, say a few words, all very quick, not much time for small talk really.

But then I remembered that I had something for Luke and Jack had

something for Mikey, and so I asked him, "Mika, isn't the band coming

out?" And he said, "Didn't they already? John! John! Where's the band?

Aren't they coming?" And John came over and said something about

them having already left for Chicago -- which confused me because

as far as I could tell Martin was still sitting in that van across the street

that hadn't moved and someone told me that they'd seen Mikey get into

earlier as well. :sneaky2: I guess I can't blame them really -- it was

the third show in as many days, and they were tired, I'm sure... but

STILL... I still haven't met Luke. Sad.

Anyhow, Mika really did take care of everyone, even though, like

the concert itself, it was all very hurried... and then he said goodnight

and ducked into the car waiting for him...

And that was that.

As I reflect on it, I think that overall it was a good experience,

though I do have a few things I wish had gone differently.

I really wish it had been warmer. I was so cold in the queue that it really

ruined the queuing experience for me -- I really didn't feel

like myself then until I got inside and warmed up a bit.

I wish I hadn't given the poster to Vero to take backstage -- I wish

I'd kept it so Mika could have seen it front and center during the show,

then we could have given it to him as a group afterward. Like I said,

the cold addled my thinking!

I wish that I was able to remember everyone's names -- I was so

happy to meet so many of you!

I wish I'd remembered to pay Holly back for sending my ticket. But

don't worry, Holly, I will! Promise! :thumb_yello:

I wish that the band had come out. :sneaky2: Did anyone get to

talk to them? If so, I guess it must have been

in that half-hour it took us to get out of the venue, and I'm

really sorry that I missed them.

I wish I'd met Perez and Katy.

I wish I could have gotten a new photo with Mika.

But, as I said, overall, I really can't complain. I'm very lucky to

have been to three shows in less than a year and only one of them

in my own town.

Now I just have to live vicariously while the rest of you have your turns...

:original:

BTW... has anyone posted any pics of Mika *after* the show --

if so I've missed them, could you direct me, please?

So I am concerned.

I felt kinda the same -- all I ate on Saturday was a yogurt in the morning

and a half a sandwich while we stood in line, so I was ravenous

yesterday, and very achy from standing for so long. You're right about

Holly -- sentinel is the word for her. She was guarding her post for

sure! Hope she's home and OK! Although if those people who

were there so long don't get sick, I will really be surprised!

BTW, I wondered what happened to you, until I saw your post here.

Once we got inside I never saw you again. :(

I'm still contemplating what you said... about how seeing Mika made you

rediscover your inner creativity that you had been stifling for so

long. I think it's so interesting how so many of us, particularly us

oldlings, seem to have experienced the same...

I spoke to her last night and she is doing well.

Hopefully she can post her report today. She had an amazing time. MIKA rubbed her twice!!!!!!

Rubbed her? I need to see her report! :naughty:

Oh yes, I forgot about Holy Johnny -- that kid, whoever he was, was a

riot! With all the pictures I took, I can't believe I didn't get one of

him!

BTW, I think Andy

must have told some kids his name was Mike, and some that it was

Edgar, because whenever he would appear, they were calling out

those two names :naughty:

Geez! That boy!:roftl: And then he has the temerity to act like the picture of innocence when I ask if his name is really Andy, "of course it is!" and look at me as though he doesn't get why I'd ask that.

He wasn't trying to hide from what I saw, people were kind of swarming him--though he did get out of there quick after that.

Finally, Perez Hilton came out wearing a multi-colored hoodie -- I was so

distracted by him, that I totally missed Katy Perry. :(

It's ok, Deb, I missed both of them! Or rather, I didn't register who they were... but I was farther away.

And then he shook my hand and looked into my eyes and spoke words that

melt a fangirl's heart: "We've met before. Glasgow."

I remember that. :blush-anim-cl: I was so happy for you!

Thank you for getting his attention, btw. But ooooh, I wish I knew the band was there! Haha, maybe I'd have tried to force my way in... not.

Anyhow, Mika really did take care of everyone, even though, like

the concert itself, it was all very hurried... and then he said goodnight

and ducked into the car waiting for him...

Yup... I should add I got my ticket signed as well... though... :blush-anim-cl: I only asked him to sign it 'cause I felt bad I was only asking him about Mikey. I actually left after John told us that the band was gone, and then thought "well that was rude," so I came back and asked Mika to sign my ticket, and he was good enough to oblige.

...which makes me the one MFCer to get an autograph out of trying to be polite, I think.
