Waaaah, I'm EXCITED!!! :woot_jump: It's a festival performance though and, judging from V Festival last year, it will not be the yellow part of the egg (that's German) but anyway. Oh My God. And I'm planning to meet thm on the site before their gig. :naughty: (Won't work though but I wont give up hope :fisch:)

Petra was front row centre and filmed the whole thing, including the new song - Rainbow. She says it was ****ing good :big grin2::big grin2::big grin2::big grin2::big grin2::big grin2:

Oh well, thank you :sneaky2:. I had it all planned out :crybaby:. Hm, I'll just write it the way I wanted to write it anyway :shun:

-----------------------------------------------

I was actually planing to start with a simple "It was a very solid set :das:" and then insert a picture of Luke hoping around.

However, nada. :tears: (:naughty:)

I took like THREE ****ing pictures which is most ****ing bothering me. I really missed a certain person there that was taking pictures while I was filming :sneaky:. Ana, where the heck ARE YOU???!!!

So anyway, a full report is on its way (I'm currently copying everything to my harddisc).

But let me please just point out, emphasize, underline & highlight the following:

There is no other band in the whole ****ing world that is even SLIGHTLY close to the perfection and fantasticness and utter brilliance the Kooks have. This was the BY FAR BEST festival performance I have EVER been allowed to witness. Ok, of course I havent been o oh so many festivals so far but compared to V Festival's Kooks set last year... it was more than just stunning today. It was like :stretcher: all over the place. I really managed to get first row ****ing centre-ish and FILM the entire thing (ok, a part of the beginning of See The Sun is missing due to me changing the memory cards / battery) but... nobody bothered, nobody even LOOKED at me. I filmed (VERY obviously) and I dont think I even have ceiling or parts WITHOUT the band. I will upload / send it to each and everyone that wants it. But first of all I have to copy it to my hard disc and convert it (I'll do this that night) and upload it to YouTube (from tomorrow morning on).

I'm completely dazzled and shocked and overly excited and happy and aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! GOD IT WAS SO BRILLIANT.

(And if my files dont work, I will commit suicide.) *goes to try the files*

So... how to start? I'll do it the other way round and tart with the ending because otherwise I'll forget it.

So on my way home I listened to the radio and there was, unbelievable for me but true, Naive on . And then - tata! - a GERMAN radio station played ESSER. ****ING ESSER. YEs, everyone except Ana and maybe Bianca will now ask "Esser who tf?". The answer is the following. Esser is one of the acts I made contracts for when I interned in London. He is the guy that supported the Kaiser Chiefs on their arena tour in the UK; he is some sort of "former drummer of a popular band (*insert name of band which I forgot :fisch:*) goes solo". His MySpace ID is (I think) /esserhq so GO AND ADD HIM. He'll be big one day. I'm sure. He has potential. And a bad haistyle but who cares :dunno:

-----------------

From the end to the beginning, but first things first - the mp3 of Rainbow:

http://www.mediafire.com/?t3yltn1yjne

(it's neither cut nor edited; I just extracted it)

(I'm in absolutely NO WAY religious but GOD BLESS THE AUDIO OF MY CAMERA)

The festival site for / of Pinkpop turned out to be fricking close, namely just 40km away right behind the border in the Netherlands. So I went there at 9:40AM or so and arrived at 10:20AM. I found a parking space (which cost me 10€. These people know how to make money :sneaky2:) which was close to the 'Snoworld' (an indoor ski-arena thingy).

That's the way it looked like when I arrived:

Bild4-1.jpg

However, I decided to check out the merch and so on first (which was partly outside of the site). I acquired a couple of new shirts and then I was too lazy to carry these the whole day (it was getting hotter and hotter and I had also just been told that I wasnt allowed to take ANY kind of drink in with me) and so I decided to take everything back to the car.

When I came back to the entrance area, it looked like this (at about 11:30AM or so):

Bild6-1.jpg

First look around inside - that's the main stage where the Gaslight Anthem (some guys from New Jersey) were currently playing:

Bild7-1.jpg

The pink hats were Amnesty International hats which you could buy for 6€. I bought one but my head was too big and so I couldnt use it :tears: (which would have been GREAT because the sun was baking).

Even more merch:

Bild12-1.jpg

20€ per piece and old editions for 5€. And then they had artist-merch, too (which the Kooks hadnt but then I later found one single merch stand that had them and I bought the same Bianca has)

Paul in front of the 3FM Stage where the Kooks would play later / just the 3FM stage:

I walked around and the first band I saw were the All American Rejects in the Tent Stage (or on the Tent Stage, however). Katy Perry was scheduled to play there later but I queued for the Kooks instad (not that I was longing to see Katy Perry; she was just THERE and I could have gone).

Bild10-1.jpg

Traditional, original Mexican food: :naughty:

Bild11-1.jpg

You couldnt pay with money but you had to get some voucher thingies (no idea what they are called in English. Maybe tokens?) which you could JUST get in packs of 4 and one pack was TEN EUROS. So I had to get one (I didnt have anything to drink :dunno:). Ugh. I hate this organisation. I spent SO MUCH MONEY today. ****.

So, who else played? I saw parts of Mando Diao, I missed Franz Ferdinand (I queued), I saw a VERY **** Dutch band (more later), I saw Billy Talent (****ing amazing btw), parts of Amy MacDonald (worse than I had thought), and, uhm, haha, I cant even remember.

Anyway, I texted Bianca (ANA THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TEXT!!!!! :wub2:) and moaned because of the heat and she told me off for being a wimp :shun:. But it WAS FRICKING HOT. There was no shadow and my head started feeling squashy.

So I decided to go and see Amy MacDonald and then head off to the 3FM Stage later to see Billy Talent and then wait there for the Kooks.

When I arrived, Billy Talent (Canadian band; very hard rock/punk/simply loud but good because sometimes you need music like that) wasnt there yet and people were sitting which means I could make my way through to 4th row :naughty:.

And I've got QUITE a decent sunburn btw. My entire face is RED. And I'm starting to get even darker red dots on my forehead and my cheeks because my skin doesnt like so (THAT) much sun. The last time I had a tan was in Brighton with Ana last August but that was a TAN and today that was (is) a proper sunburn on my face & my arms. Yes, I know that it's hotter in Australia :sneaky2::naughty:.

People preparing the stage for Billy Talent:

Bild18-1.jpg

The stage was like 5m from the barricades away and about 1,80m high and I was wondering IF Luke would actually come down.

50% of Billy Talent:

Bild16-1.jpg

And this nice camera plays an important role in all my Kooks videos:

Bild15-1.jpg

After Billy Talent, people went away to see Franz Ferdinand play the main stage (:tears:) and I was very lucky and made use of this opportunity to get first row.

From there on, things should be fine one should say. However, I did NOT expect the next act to be what it was. It was a Dutch band whose name I had NEVER EVER heard before ("De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig"). They turned out to be incredibly loud and very ****ty (IMO) rappers / hip hoppers. The people LOVED them. They seem to be VERY VERY big in the Netherlands .

Bild19-1.jpg

Oh well, and THEN it started to rain.

Bild20-1.jpg

It was **** because it was RAINING. It was good because after all that heat it felt good. And it just took like 5min or so (very short but quite heavy).

And FINALLY, these BAD BAD BAD guys went away and people dragged a well-known drumset and a piano on stage :cheerful_h4h::

Someone drew that to request Ooh La (quite obviously) in the fear that The Kooks wouldnt play one of their most popular singles .

Bild24-1.jpg

(after Ooh La, this thing was thrown to the front)

(or there were people with posters with "Rebecca Big Tits" on it !!!)

The last picture I took after the performance:

Bild23-1.jpg

That's it. I went home (did I mention that I LOVE the German autobahn??!! I LOVE it. "Oh yes, please, go as FAST AS YOU LIKE :dunno:" ) and had the Kooks and Esser on the radio. :cheerful_h4h:

I have to go now because my internet will be switched off soon for the night :bye: I'll write the stuff about the actual performance down now but I'll post it tomorrow.

Niiiiiiiiiiight!

Petra! :boing: it sounds like the gig/festival was awesome! :wu b2:

I'm glad it was great!! :big grin2:

and the new song??? WOW I love it already :fangurl:

:teehee:

Indeed, indeed! I wrote something last night but I'm not sure if it's all very intelligent :naughty:

-------------------------------------------------------

So how was the gig?

The Kooks were supposed to be on stage at 8:15PM but they were 7 or 8 minutes late (who cares). Anyway, waiting took AGES because after these De Jeugd van Tegenwoording (or so) people didn’t sit down again (like after Billy Talent) but remained standing (in the last bits of rain). It took them ages to build up the stage, to control every microphone 5 times etc.pp. and, ugh. I put my new 8G card into my camera, put a new battery in and waited :sneaky2:. I changed the 8G card at the beginning of See The Sun because I wasn’t entirely sure whether it would be enough for Stormy Weather / Sofa Song. And after I had changed it, my battery ran out of energy which is **** because this tells me that my batteries are getting worse. When I first bought them I could film with one through two entire Mika gigs but now… :tears:. And my camera is, quite obviously, not happy with me anymore because I'm constantly raping it with a LOT of filming (like entire gigs :naughty:).

Then the guys turned up and -

OH. MY.F*CKING.GOODNESS.

Luke with his new hairstyle (but the top is already longer and is getting curly and when he was jumping, the curls were hopping :wub2:), Paul INCREDIBLY SEXY with a BIT longer hair and a few curly parts and hottie Hugh with a FANTASTIC mop of red hair on his head and NO FREAKING HAT!! :woot_jump::fangurl:

Hugh was in a tuxedo-thingy, Luke was wearing a VERY strange pair of trousers which I couldn’t even explain in German and a white shirt with a print that seemed very familiar which was held together with a safety pin front-middle (you'll see) and Paul was, again, wearing this "The English Beat"-shirt and skinny jeans (I guess those from the go karting video).

The setlist was as follows (****ing hell, I still haven’t heard 'If Only' live :crybaby:)

[*] Always Where

[*] Matchbox

[*] Eddie's Gun

[*] Ooh La

[*] Sway

[*] Time Awaits

[*] She Moves

[*] Do You Wanna

[*] Naive

[*] Love is like a Rainbow

[*] Shine On

[*] See The World

[*] Princess Of My Mind

[*] See The Sun

[*] Stormy Weather

[*] Sofa Song

What I really like is that the Kooks are so… uhm, well, you notice that they are all 25% of the band. In Razorlight for example, Johnny Borrell is the boss and the bands does what he wants and he is the last one that goes on stage after the rest is already there. The Kooks all come together and although Luke is probably the main songwriter, it doesn't seem as if a drummer that is not singing or a new bassist is worth less (or so. anyway.).

They didn’t say much :dunno:. They came, Luke said the classic "Hello hello hello hello" and they started playing. I have 99% on video, so you'll see it.

I'm just not sure if a simple video is able to really show the intensity of the set. The stage was 5m away and much higher than the crowd but it was totally clear that the Kooks were absolutely ruling the crowd (that’s a German expression; no idea if I can use it here). The audio was brilliant, the people were so much into it (luckily not in the shouting, screaming-way) and there was almost a visible connection between the band and the audience. Luke & Hugh were constantly discussing something (whatever it was) and it was an utter fun to see Luke jumping and dancing around, Hugh rocking out (totally) and Paul, with the expression of mere pain on his face (as usual :das:), drumming. I didn’t really look at Pete and he isn’t really in the videos because I zoomed until I had Paul, Hugh and Luke in the picture. I (VERY OBVIOUSLY) filmed and not a single soul (security) told me off.

The set was fantastic, perfect, BRILLIANT, gorgeous to look at, fun to see and simply ****ING AMAZING. I stood there and I knew in the very moment I saw them perform that this is a most awesomely perfect performance. Sometimes you go to a gig and it takes you a while (usually while watching the videos later) to totally understand how BRILLIANT it must have been. I think one might compare it to a very very very big gig – like Robbie Williams in Knebworth. I have no idea whether you lot know that DVD but it's a DVD of the three gigs which Robbie played in a row in Knebworth Park in the UK. There were 300,000 people attending these shows. I was at a gig with 60,000 people in Cologne once (my first gig ever) and I HATED it. Because, as good as it might look from the outside, you are still standing in the middle of thousands of others, you cant see the stage, you cant see Robbie and everything is crap. Or when you go to a stadium gig. :dunno: But then later you see the DVD of that gig and then you are like "OMG, that was FANTASTIC. Oh, how awesome." At least that's what Robbie's Knebworth gig is for me – I have been to such a gig and I hated it but the DVD is great and makes me think of it much much better again. Anyway, sorry, I'm talking nonsense again.
