Neiobi
This one is a bit cheesy, but I find it quite sad. James Blunt- No Bravery There are children standing here, Arms outstretched into the sky, Tears drying on their face. He has been here. Brothers lie in shallow graves. Fathers lost without a trace. A nation blind to their disgrace, Since he's been here. And I see no bravery, No bravery in your eyes anymore. Only sadness. Houses burnt beyond repair. The smell of death is in the air. A woman weeping in despair says, He has been here. Tracer lighting up the sky. It's another families' turn to die. A child afraid to even cry out says, He has been here. And I see no bravery, No bravery in your eyes anymore. Only sadness. There are children standing here, Arms outstretched into the sky, But no one asks the question why, He has been here. Old men kneel to accept their fate. Wives and daughters cut and raped. A generation drenched in hate. Says, he has been here. And I see no bravery, No bravery in your eyes anymore. Only sadness. I don't even know what it's clearly about, but the singer himself was in a war... I can't even remember wich one. But I think probably it has to do with that. Naectegale
Now when I was 10 I thought Alone Again (Naturally) was deeply profound :roftl- Didn't the title give you just the teensiest clue though? I'm beginning to see why you sing so much in Latin! Rivers that is so sad- and scarily true. And I had no idea that that was a sad song- I thought it was really loving and sweet! Why are only oldlings joining in here- don't young people today know how to be terminally gloomy? Well, yes, but I have a long history of not realy listening to pop songs, so I suppose it just didn't register Perhaps we need a separate thread for songs of teenage angst
Naectegale
Last Kiss (J. Frank Wilson lyrics: yes, Pearl Jam did a sucky cover of this very OLD song.) [Chorus] Oh where oh where can my baby be The Lord took her away from me She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world We were out on a date in my daddy's car We hadn't driven very far There in the road straight up ahead A car was stalled the engine was dead I couldn't stop so I swerved to the right I'll never forget the sound that night The screaming tires the busting glass The painful scream that I heard last I think Terry Jacks 'Seasons in the Sun' was my first 'favourite' song....I think it was probably the first record I ever bought but infuriatingly, I can never quite remember 100% What about Bobby Goldsborough...............Honey BOBBY GOLDSBOROUGH HONEY LYRICS And honey, I miss you And I'm bein' good And I'd love to be with you If only I could oh dear....so it's here where oldlings go to cry together? well... i know many of the songs you posted...and loved them all to bits...and cried a lot over them! one for all THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL - AbbA The winner takes it all the loser standing small beside the victory that's her destiny (I've taken out bits to save space) Thanks RT - classic Thanks Kath - I was trying to remember what that was called all day Robertina - Abba are underrrated - that is a very sad song Now I can cry myself to sleep

Naectegale
There is nothing sadder than the loss of a child (or two ) A Mother's Lament A mother was bathing her baby one night The youngest of ten, and a tiny young mite The mother was poor and the baby was thin Only a skellington covered with skin The mother turned round for the soap off the rack She was but a moment, but when she looked back Her baby was gawn and in anguish she cried “Oh where is my baby?” The Angels replied, Chorus: “Your baby has gone down the plug-hole Your baby has gone down the plug The poor little thing was so skinny and thin It should have been washed in a jug Your baby is ever so happy He won’t need a bath any more Your baby has gone down the plug-hole Not lost but gone before.” The mother was frantic, the baby was gawn But she had got nine more, and the water still warm She covered her eye-balls and stuck in a pin Picked out another one ever so thin Then into the water she brushed off a tear When she turned back, she said “crumbs it’s not here” “Now that one has gawn” and in anguish she cried “Oh where is my baby?” The Angels replied, Chorus: The mother was livid. “How dare you” she cried “Don’t take no more chances” the Angels replied “We’ve had your two youngens, we’d like a few more” Then gave her a nice smile and dissolved through the floor Now mother was boiling. She smashed in the bath “You’re not having my kids” she cried with a laugh Now they’ve not touched no water from that very day “It’s the smell” Mother says, “That keeps the Angels away.” Chorus . . . . . . . . . . . . sorry

Suzy
Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton written about the pain he felt following the 20 March 1991 death of his four-year-old son, Conor, who fell out of a 53rd-story window in his Mother's [Lori] New York City apartment. Would you know my name If I saw you in heaven Will it be the same If I saw you in heaven I must be strong, and carry on Cause I know I don't belong Here in heaven Would you hold my hand If I saw you in heaven Would you help me stand If I saw you in heaven I'll find my way, through night and day Cause I know I just can't stay Here in heaven Time can bring you down Time can bend your knee Time can break your heart Have you begging please Begging please (instrumental) Beyond the door There's peace I'm sure. And I know there'll be no more... zoots14
There is a beautiful song called Cancion Triste by Jesse Cook... he's Canadian I believe, but plays spanish guitar. The song is fully instrumental but makes me cry every time... incredibly beautiful... especially when the cello kicks in (around 1:49). But to have that impact you have to listen to the whole thing, and listen to it with a lot of attention. Don't watch the YouTube slideshow with it... just close your eyes. Trust me. Edit: ugh... haven't listened to it in a while... just got chills listening to the cello part. God, it's such a gorgeous song, and incredibly sorrowful, which is amazing considering there are no lyrics. Edited May 19, 2009 by zoots14

riverstwilight
Big Bad World One by Jonathan Coulton All alone by the table of food in my wrinkled suit and my borrowed tie Only thinking of something to say in the moment after the girl goes by Everyone else is having fun or else pretending to I eat another crudite I quit, I'm done Cause I don't think it's gonna turn out okay It's no fair, it's no fun If every time it's gonna end the same way: Me: zero, Big bad world: one At the office we're all having cake cause it's someone's birthday, I don't know who Get my plate and I'm scanning the room and the only seat is right next to you I get the nod, the tiny smile that doesn't come with teeth Maybe you don't know who I am I quit, I'm done Cause I don't think 's gonna turn out okay It's no fair , it's no fun If every time it's gonna end the same way: Me: zero, Big bad world: one Staying in side, lying in bed Noticing something that's not there Follow my heart, follow my head I'll follow anything that might get me somewhere Catch her eye when she's pouring my coffee and search my head for an opening line But I see by the look on her face if I keep my mouth shut I'll save some time What if the best that I can be just isn't good enough? Isn't it better not to know? Soaring Simpson
This is great- we're getting to songs I don't know now And another oldie Jimmy Ruffin- What becomes of the broken hearted As I walk this land with broken dreams I have visions of many things Love's happiness is just an illusion Filled with sadness and confusion, What becomes of the broken hearted Who had love that's now departed? I know I've got to find Some kind of peace of mind Maybe. The fruits of love grow all around But for me they come a tumblin' down. Every day heartaches grow a little stronger I can't stand this pain much longer I walk in shadows Searching for light Cold and alone No comfort in sight, Hoping and praying for someone to care Always moving and goin to where What becomes of the broken hearted Who had love that's now departed? I know I've got to find Some kind of peace of mind Maybe. I'm searching though I don't succeed, But someone look, there's a growing need. Oh, he is lost, there's no place for beginning, All that's left is an unhappy ending. Now what's become of the broken-hearted Who had love that's now departed? I know I've got to find Some kind of peace of mind I'll be searching everywhere Just to find someone to care. I'll be looking everyday I know I'm gonna find a way Nothings gonna stop me now I'll find a way somehow I'll be searching everywhere
Soaring Simpson
Hi Rivers- we posted together This sounds positively peppy compared to the rest of the songs in the thread. I used to go out with a guy who wouldn't dance to anything else, so whenever I hear it I still charge onto the dancefloor Joy Division- Love Will Tear Us Apart When the routine bites hard And ambitions are low And the resentment rides high But emotions wont grow And were changing our ways, Taking different roads Then love, love will tear us apart again Why is the bedroom so cold Turned away on your side? Is my timing that flawed, Our respect run so dry? Yet theres still this appeal That weve kept through our lives Love, love will tear us apart again Do you cry out in your sleep All my failings expose? Get a taste in my mouth As desperation takes hold Is it something so good Just cant function no more? When love, love will tear us apart again
Fmbm
. One of my favourites Another party's over And I'm left cold sober My baby left me for somebody new I don't wanna talk about it Want to forget about it Wanna be intoxicated with that special brew So come and get me Let me Get in that sinking feeling That says my heart is on an all time low - So Don't expect me To behave perfectly And wear that sunny smile My guess is I'm in for a cloudy and overcast Don't try and stop me 'Cos I'm heading for that stormy weather soon I'm causing a mild sensation With this new occupation I'm permanently glued To this extraordinary mood so now move over Let me take over With my melancholy blues I'm causing a mild sensation With this new occupation I'm in the news I'm just getting used to my new exposure So come into my enclosure And meet my Melancholy blues

Abandoned places - I guess we know the score.. On and on! Does anybody know what we are looking for? Another hero - another mindless crime. Behind the curtain, in the pantomime. Hold the line! Does anybody want to take it anymore? The Show must go on! The Show must go on! Inside my heart is breaking, My make-up may be flaking, But my smile, still, stays on! Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance. Another heartache - another failed romance. On and on! Does anybody know what we are living for? I guess i'm learning I must be warmer now.. I'll soon be turning round the corner now. Outside the dawn is breaking, But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free! The Show must go on! The Show must go on! Yeah! Ooh! Inside my heart is breaking! My make-up may be flaking! But my smile, still, stays on! Yeah! oh oh oh My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies, Fairy tales of yesterday, will grow but never die, I can fly, my friends! The Show must go on! Yeah! The Show must go on! I'll face it with a grin! I'm never giving in! On with the show! I'll top the bill! I'll overkill! I have to find the will to carry on! On with the, On with the show! The Show must go on.
